These New Puritans Release Video For Attack Music, New Track Off Of Sophomore Album, Hidden, Out Now On Domino

Featuring vocals by Heather Marlatt of dream-pop group Salem, a taiko drum, and Foley techniques and more, the aptly titled “Attack Music” is perhaps one of the most immediate, yet abrasive and foreboding songs off of These New Puritans’ new album, Hidden (Domino). The track additionally incorporates vocals by the New London Children’s Choir, recorded on a mobile set-up. Of course, These New Puritans are not the first to use children’s voices this way, however, none have quite achieved the eerie, Greek Chorus-like air of Hidden.

The “Attack Music” video was directed by Matthew Stone, an up and coming London-based artist.

“Seldom have classical delicacy, rock attitude and pop vitality coexisted with such improbable ease.” – Brian Howe, Paste

“this U.K. outfit takes the notion of artsy pop and turns it inside out by fusing disparate components like a full choir, sinister sound effects and furious tribal percussion to create a sound that’s as bombastic as it is ambitious.” — Hayley Elisabeth Kaufman, Relix

“Hidden is a strikingly inventive and original rock record…the album freshly synthesizes older ideas (post-rock textures, no-wave skronk, Steve Reich-influenced phasing) and current trends (dubstep’s delay, chart pop’s stentorian synth lines, global beats).” – Amy Granzin, Pitchfork (8.2)

“a fascinating, foreboding, insistently rhythmic conundrum.” – Jon Pareles, The New York Times

“The disc captures the present through evocative compositions and echoing rhythms, but it stands just as strong as a portent to what this band’s substantial vision may yet achieve.” – Noah Levine, Urb

Beneath Me – Wish I Wouldn’t Care album

“Wish I Wouldn’t Care”

The Windy City does not have the strength to sustain the sonic hurricane of sound that is BENEATH ME. BENEATH ME is a modern rock powerhouse that has the drive, determination and ambition to become the next big thing on the hard rock scene.

BENEATH ME is the amalgamation of two Chicago outfits that both met their demise in 2007. The first of which featured twin brothers Mikey Vujasin (Rhythm/Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals), Andy Vujasin (Drums) and George Sack (Rhythm/Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals). The second band was helmed by bassist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Johnny Drugan. Members of both groups were mutual partners in crime, so after the demise of their respective bands it was only natural for them to get together to form what would become BENEATH ME.

From their inception, they started working together with a singer they immediately felt a connection with. The band spent hours upon hours writing and recording material for what was to be their debut release. With the record finished and a distribution deal secured and in place, BENEATH ME was ready to unleash their sound upon the masses. Due to personal problems the original singer was not able to tour behind the record and hence it was never released. At this point BENEATH ME decided that they would start over again with new vocal melodies and lyrics. This process spawned full reconstruction of songs and parlayed the band into a whole new realm of composition and inspiration.

In 2008 BENEATH ME started the quest for a new singer utilizing their street team, MySpace and Facebook pages as well as local word-of-mouth. Soon after, the band was receiving submissions from across the continent. If the band dug what they heard, songs would be sent to the prospective vocalist to see what the candidate was able to do with their tunes. The day they received a demo back from Montreal native Franco ‘V’ Roc, they were blown away and immediately flew him out to Chicago . It wasn’t long after that he was chosen to be the new front man for BENEATH ME.

Bassist and co-producer Johnny Drugan spoke on their latest recording process. “We utilized the pain we had endured by converting it into positive energy, this gave us our end result which was living proof that everything does happen for a reason.” Guitarist and co-producer Mikey Vujasin said “we wanted to keep the record organic and raw. When listening to it from beginning to end it creates an overall story that takes listeners to another realm.”
After a year in the studio with their new singer, BENEATH ME emerged stronger then ever with a sound all their own. The recording sessions spawned their debut masterpiece, “Wish I Wouldn’t Care.” Johnny commented on the significance of the album’s title, “When we did this record it was an exercise in futility trying to not relive what we had accomplished on our previous record…the music that had our blood, sweat and lives engrained in it was wasted because one person couldn’t get himself together. I found myself thinking, I wish I wouldn’t care anymore… but I do”.

Gorillaz, the world’s leading animated band release a brand new, multi level online game with their new single Superfast Jellyfish.

Parlophone has confirmed the release of “Escape to Plastic Beach” – a multi level, multi format game release that takes fans on the Gorillaz journey to their new headquarters on Plastic Beach. The game also includes an MP3 download of the band’s new single ‘Superfast Jellyfish’ taken from their new album ‘Plastic Beach’.

“Escape to Plastic Beach” is the first game of its type merging numerous levels of Flash and Unity formats along with a new single MP3 to create an audio, visual, graphical and gaming experience to expand fans’ experience of an album. Increasing the experience beyond traditional album release – the game features original artwork, voiceovers from the band and numerous other tracks from the new Gorillaz album.

“Escape to Plastic Beach” starts by recreating the events from the ‘Stylo’ music video in a free-to-play, 2D online game that sees Murdoc, singer 2D and Cyborg Noodle on their journey from the mainland to Plastic Beach. It continues underwater with Murdoc’s daring underwater rescue of the band, and then beyond taking players direct to Plastic Beach HQ in a challenging eight level, 3D pay-to-play game. The final chapter of the game also includes an MP3 download of the band’s new single ‘Superfast Jellyfish’ featuring De La Soul and Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals.

Gorillaz Bassist, Murdoc stars as the main protagonist in “Escape to Plastic Beach” but will also play the game along with fellow members Cyborg Noodle and 2D – posting scores which fans can view and compete against via a global high score table. Fans who bought the “Experience” edition of the album had an exclusive preview of the 3D gliding game chapter as part of the extra content offered via the CD. Experience buyers will also be able to access the entire game in full, for free via their copy of Plastic Beach. Fans can also save their high scores in the members area ofwww.Gorillaz.com.

Murdoc Niccals himself says:”Hey! This is fan-tastic. Some top-notch gonk gaming company have made a Gorillaz game that you can play free online. It’s all based on Plastic Beach, and it features me, 2D and my cyborg Noodle! What’s even better is that if you pay the £1.50 for the last part, you get our new single “Superfast Jellyfish”, and that’s got ‘Super Furry’ Gruff and the De La Soul boys on it! El Caminos, Boogiemen, ghostly pirate ships, underwater chases, mines, fat cops and gun battles all wrapped up in some snazzy new gaming technology and a great new Gorillaz tracktoo…I mean, what more could you want? Come n’ play with me and Gorillaz on Plastic Beach and see how far that gets you…”

Online games have already proved powerful viral marketing tools for EMI Music enabling them to reach a target audience that have turned off from traditional radio, TV and press communications. This project is another collaboration with worldwide casual/advergaming experts, Matmi, who have pioneered promotional online tactics with EMI for a number of years.

About the Game: http://www.gorillaz.com/escapetoplasticbeach

Chapters One and Two (free-to-play online game).

Out-run and out-gun the cops and then evade the ruthless El Camino as the band makes its way to Plastic Beach. Mixing up retro-2D and 2.5D graphics with footage from the Stylo video, Chapter One puts the fate of the band in your hands.

In Chapter Two, guide Murdoc in an underwater rescue of Cyborg Noodle and 2D, avoiding mines and hostile sea-life over three challenging levels of aquatic action into the waiting submarine.

Chapter Three (pay-to-play online game).

A 3D (Unity) action game in which Murdoc floats and fights above Plastic Beach HQ on his Doom Glider to foil 2D’s repeated escape attempts whilst battling ghost pirate ships. Original artwork and Gorillaz voiceovers plus numerous increasingly difficult and complex levels immerses players in their own personal experience of Plastic Beach.

Cast Spells releases Daytrotter session

Cast Spells releases Daytrotter session

Revered and innovative exclusive recording site Daytrotter has posted a powerful session by Cast Spells, the nom-de-tune of Maps & Atlases frontman Dave Davison. The 3-song set, recorded at the Daytrotter studios is available for free download and streaming HERE.

Davison’s heartfelt and charismatic performances are unparalleled — check out this Glass Room session video of “Potted Plant” (a different version also performed on the Daytrotter session.) The Daytrotter recording is a perfect distillation of what some have dubbed the Cast Spells sound as “Peter Gabriel leading The Shins.”

Check out the MP3 for Cast Spells’ “All Brass” from the recent split EP with Good Old War. Check out Cast Spells’ 2009 debut, Bright Works and Baton HERE.

Daytrotter founder Sean Moeller eloquently describes the Cast Spells session:

“Davison tends to think about things in a manner of how they affect the balance of everything – of what it means to be in this life, in that life and how any actions might send ripples through the common cartilage, rocking everything just slightly or devastatingly off its base. He takes us into the woozy escapes of a mind that wanders here and there, but ultimately finds itself stuck in the stampede of such crushing proximity to so many others and a reliance on needing everything to fit together harmoniously. A song like “Potted Plant” is a great example of the forces in collision, of a man of nomadic nature still trying to fit into some kind of domesticity that will keep him on a sunny windowsill. Then again, there’s also that streaming feeling that running away from it all and returning to the backwoods isn’t out of the question.

“Davison sends us into a world that feels as if it was originally given to us in such a different state, but there’s an innocent belief that it can be rearranged to be a likeness of its previous self once again with a little doing. It feels as if we’ve added all of the extra coats of paint, built it into a disgrace that could be much simpler, could be much prettier. We slide a hand figuratively into his as we listen to Cast Spells and launch ourselves out the door and down steep grassy hills at reckless speeds, knowing that it’s likely we’ll spill without time to get our hands out in front of us to brace the fall, but we’ll spring back up, comment with a chuckle about the deep green stain on our knees and elbows and continue to follow him – recklessly.”

Davison recently returned from touring in Europe with yet another of his bands, Hey Tonal and is currently set to release the debut LP by Maps & Atlases on Barsuk Records. The songwriter also heads back into the studio soon to record the full length for Cast Spells on Sargent House.
