The official video for Animal Collective’s “Guys Eyes” from their Merriweather Post Pavilion album out now!
This summer, Converse further activates its commitment to being a catalyst for creativity by bringing together three extraordinary musicians from different genres to form a unique collaboration known as Three Artists. One Song. The nucleus of this initiative is a brand new, all original track featuring Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and Kid Cudi that will be released this July and available to music fans globally via free download at converse.com and authorized Converse websites around the world. In addition to collaborating on the track, each of the artists also participated in the creation of the music video, which will be released later this summer, and is the inspiration behind the exclusive original album artwork for the single revealed by Converse today.
“Rostam Batmanglij is a member of one of today’s most influential bands, Vampire Weekend,” said Geoff Cottrill, Chief Marketing Officer of Converse. “The band single handedly made the path for DIY artists that followed in their footsteps, and it is his leadership that Rostam brought to the table – both in creation of the track and in producing it. It’s thrilling to watch an artist apart from their normal musical realm and his talent and originality were a key element to creating the song.”
This film is the final installment in a series of three short films being released in anticipation of the song’s release, featuring each of the musicians (Best Coast debuted on 6/22, Kid Cudi debuted 6/24). It follows Rostam, multi-instrumentalist for seminal indie-band Vampire Weekend as he gives a glimpse into the life as an artist living in Brooklyn, NY, a borough bursting with creativity and known for being the original stomping ground for many of today’s celebrated bands. The film also offers a sneak-peak at the creation of the new soon-to-be-released collaborative single, which was produced by Rostam himself.
To all of our fans and supporters,
Heartfelt thanks for all the messages of love and condolences that you have sent since Devon’s passing. We have drawn a lot of strength from these as we navigate this difficult time. Losing Devon has been a profound loss for the family this band has grown to become. We have taken some time out of the spotlight these last few months to heal, process, reflect and reevaluate the future of this band.
We have talked at great length with each other and our families and friends about the future. Devon’s parents have encouraged us to continue on and given us their blessing. It is their opinion (as well as ours) that Devon would never have wanted his death to end the band. He would have wanted us to continue on.
In the time between Devon’s passing and this statement, we have all reflected upon our personal lives. Krista has decided that her time with us has come to an end as she no longer desires the long drives, poor sleeps and revolting selection of road food. Instead she’s choosing a home, a garden, some gluten-free baking and a proper education. We will miss Krista very much and she remains a part of our lives.
We have turned to our good friends and former tour-mates Robert Andow and Bobby Siadat of Vancouver band “Gang Violence” to play keyboards and drums This new line up will continue the tradition of excellent live shows and sweaty dance floors, with new strength and a renewed commitment to music and touring. The 5 of us look forward to carrying the spirit of our friend Devon with us everywhere.
The cancelled European tour is being rescheduled for this fall and we will announce the dates as soon as possible. We are also planning select shows for the rest of 2010.
Out of respect for Devon and the evolution of life, today we announce that we will no longer be known as “You Say Party! We Say Die!” but instead as simply “You Say Party”.
Lately, we’ve been thinking a lot about the words and meanings we’ve spoken through our music. To return you to the core message of our band, we present the first track “There is XXXX (Within My Heart)” as the next single in North America.
With XXXX and light.

PAPA ROACH CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS THROUGH WHYHUNGER WITH A HIDDEN TRACK ON NEW ALBUM
BAND TO RELEASE TIME FOR ANNIHILATION…ON THE RECORD AND ON THE ROAD
ON AUGUST 31ST
New Single “Kick in the Teeth” At Radio Now
Video Premiere Soon To Follow on VEVO
Rock band Papa Roach has included a very special hidden track on their new album Time for Annihilation…On The Record and On The Road, due out August 31st. The message personally recorded by frontman Jacoby Shaddix, encourages fans to do their part to fight hunger and homelessness. On the track, Shaddix asks fans to take out their phones and text a number for WhyHunger in order to donate $5 to the organization. WhyHunger has been fighting hunger and poverty around the world since 1975, and the album’s hidden track is a shout-out reinforcing this crucial cause. During his childhood, Shaddix was homeless, and given the downturn of the economy, the band is devoutly steadfast about this particular charity. On their run of tour dates last year, the band auctioned off a VIP experience at every show with all proceeds going to WhyHunger. Jacoby Shaddix will also be recording a PSA for WhyHunger to help raise awareness for their free National Hunger Hotline (1-866-3-HUNGRY). For more information on WhyHunger, please visit www.whyhunger.org.
“It’s really important to us to continue our partnership with WhyHunger and offer support in any way we can. It’s all about finding new ways to spread the word and raise awareness and this is the first time we’ve ever done something like this on an album. If one person listens to it and does something to help, we’ve done our job,” says frontman Jacoby Shaddix.
Hillary Zuckerberg, WhyHunger’s Director, Artists Against Hunger & Poverty adds, “Artists Against Hunger & Poverty members Papa Roach are taking our exciting partnership to another level. Their efforts will help millions of hungry Americans get the food and services to help themselves and their families.”
The band have announced plans for their new album, Time For Annihilation…On the Record and On The Road on August 31st and their move to Top Independent Rock label, Eleven Seven Music. Papa Roach continue to push their musical limits and are currently perfecting a unique hybrid listening experience, which will consist of a mix of new studio and live tracks. With their feet firmly planted in over 10 years of multi-format success, the album’s first single “Kick in the Teeth” is sure to ignite rockers globally. The single went to radio yesterday and the video will be premiering soon on VEVO. The band has enlisted Veteran hit-maker David Bendeth (Paramore, Breaking Benjamin, Drowning Pool), to produce the new tracks.
WhyHunger is dedicated to fighting the root causes of hunger and poverty by supporting grassroots organizations that create self-reliance, economic justice and equal access to nutritious and affordable food. Founded in 1975 by the late musician and activist Harry Chapin and current Executive Director Bill Ayres, WhyHunger works to put an end to the hunger suffered by 49 million Americans and more than 1 billion people worldwide. WhyHunger ‘s main programs include the National Hunger Hotline, 1-866-3-HUNGRY, which refers individuals in need of emergency food assistance to soup kitchens, food banks, shelters, government programs and community organizations in their neighborhoods; the Grassroots Action Network, which provides information, networking opportunities, capacity building and access to more than 8,000 anti-hunger and poverty community organizations across the United States and around the world; Global Movements, which links the organization’s domestic work to broader global movements for food sovereignty and the basic rights to food, land, water and sustainable livelihoods; and Artists Against Hunger & Poverty, which is supported by Bruce Springsteen, Carlos Santana, Michael McDonald, Chicago, Earth Wind & Fire, Joss Stone, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Jackson Browne, O.A.R., Papa Roach and many others.
ATHLETE BECOME FIRST EVER BAND TO BE PLAYED ON DOCTOR WHO FIRST MAJOR NORTH AMERICAN TOUR IN OVER TWO YEARS HAPPENING NOW
U.K. buzz band Athlete can now boast of being the only band to be heard through all of time and space. The band’s classic song “Changes” will be used as the first ever rock song on the longest-running science fiction television show in the world, Doctor Who.
The song plays at a key point in the upcoming episode “Vincent And The Doctor” which can be seen for the first time in the U.S. on BBC America this Saturday night June 26th at 9pm. The series, which now stars Matt Smith as the 11th incarnation of the Doctor, has drawn raves on both sides of the Atlantic. Writer Richard Curtis (Nothing Hill, Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral) penned the episode and personally requested the song’s use.
“We are delighted that our song Chances was chosen by the legendary Richard Curtis to be used in Doctor Who,” commented lead singer Joel Pott. “The show is such a long standing and iconic BBC drama and to be the first band to ever have a song on the soundtrack really is an honour.”
Athlete are currently in the middle of a spring / summer U.S. tour in support of their latest album, Black Swan. The band’s new album is a musical summary of everything Athlete has been through, the good, the bad and the ugly. But although its songs burn with literate emotion, this certainly isn’t a downbeat record. In fact, the album begins with the hurtling FM rush of the glorious track, “Superhuman Touch,” which catapults the album to life with the opening line, “I’m on fire and nothing’s gonna hold me back.”
Produced by the esteemed Tom Rothrock (Foo Fighters, Elliott Smith, Elbow, Beck), Black Swan positively glows with snagging melodies, rich musicality and the band’s heartfelt tales. These songs together make Black Swan the strongest album Athlete has ever recorded. The reaction to Black Swan has been nothing short of overwhelming both here and in the UK with Alternative Press stating, ““If proper venues for a band called Athlete are Stadiums, then this southeast London quartet have finally made an album worthy of their name… super-earnest reflections with melodies and arrangements direct and sturdy enough to bear the emotional weight.” NME proclaiming, “Awash with gorgeous melodies, the best thing they’ve ever done.” And Q Magazine raving: “Strong results… from the rueful to the thunderous. A band reborn.”
Athlete first rose to prominence seven years ago with the spirited, electro-tinged, indie-pop of their Mercury-nominated debut, Vehicles And Animals, Athlete have established themselves among the UK’s finest songsmiths. The southeast Londoners have sold more than a million copies of their three hit albums (the other two being 2005’s Tourist and 2007’s Beyond The Neighbourhood); packed out venues across the world; picked up an Ivor Novello award; and topped both the UK’s album and airplay charts.

MADBALL TO RELEASE ‘EMPIRE’ THIS FALL, IN-STUDIO WITH ERIC RUTAN
New York City hardcore legends MADBALL are set to release their GOOD FIGHT MUSIC debut this fall, appropriately entitled Empire. The record is tentatively set for release in late September or early October of 2010. “Empire will play off of the name,” points vocalist Freddy Cricien. “MADBALL has come a long way from being street kids to becoming very established in our genre, and even beyond the music. We’re finally at a point in our life where we’re taking control of our things, where as before we didn’t have control of some things or didn’t choose to have control. We have the feeling that we’ve built a little empire for ourselves with our band, brand, and different endeavors.”
We get this reference that we’re kings of New York…” adds Cricien. “There are plenty of awesome bands that have come out of the city. Agnostic Front are the godfathers of New York hardcore, Sick Of it All are one of the undisputed champs of the scene… we were always known as more of the bad guys, but now people are calling us the kings. It’s not a title we gave ourselves and it’s not that we call ourselves that, but it’s just a term of endearment and respect that people use and it plays into the name Empire.
MADBALL are currently finishing the writing process, and will enter Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida to record in July. Behind the boards on Empire will be seasoned producer Eric Rutan (Misery Index, Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore). “I think [having Eric] is a good dynamic,” states vocalist Freddy Cricien. “We did the last couple records with a different producer, he was busy, so we were looking for an alternative and his name was suggested. I got to talking to him and I found out he has a hardcore background, and he’s a big fan of ours. I was really sold at that point because although he does a lot of death metal, he’s really eager to approach this in a certain way.
Freddy is also looking forward to utilizing Eric’s rich history in production with metal artists, and his fresh outlook on producing Empire. “He’s going to use bigger production, and I like that, but he’s not going to approach it like a Cannibal Corpse record because the vibe is different, and sometimes that dynamic works. He’s a guy that’s used to working with different things but he knows how we want our stuff approached. Eric wants to make a statement with doing a MADBALL record because he’s so into the death metal background. I’m really psyched about it, really excited. If he was totally oblivious to who we were and what hardcore music was, I’d be skeptical. But that’s not the case at all. He’s more diverse than his resume shows, at least from speaking with him personally. He’s a solid engineer and he has the ear.”
The members of MADBALL are icons in the underground and that underground now spills forth into the streets. Since forming in 1988, MADBALL has been responsible for some of the most important releases in the genre, from the seminal Ball of Destruction EP (1989) to the landmark albums Set It Off (1994), Demonstrating My Style (1996), Look My Way (1998), Hold it Down (2000), Legacy (2005), and their latest release, Infiltrate the System (2007).
Fans of MADBALL should expect the sound that they have always loved, but some evolution as well. “There’s a certain sound that we’re known for, and as much as we want to evolve with the times, we also have to keep in mind that there’s a certain standard and integrity with MADBALL, and we have to preserve that,” mentions Cricien. “Real deal hardcore kids totally appreciate that. That said, the foundation always has to be a certain sound, but we always bring new elements into our sound. There has to be some evolution. It might appeal to people outside of the hardcore realm, but in the end, it’s going to be a MADBALL record.”
