Callers Announce Sophomore LP “Life of Love”

CALLERS ANNOUNCE SOPHOMORE RELEASE LIFE OF LOVE ON WESTERN VINYL

“…I actually had to shut it off because it got to be too much. And of course, that’s meant as high praise.” – Pitchfork

“…Fortune moves effortlessly from start to finish, and is only made more complex and appealing given the diversity of its songs.” – NPR

“Brooklyn’s Callers have an unstoppable combination going for them: the pairing of Sara Lucas’ hauntingly rich and ambient vocals with Ryan Seaton’s virtuoso guitar playing.” – Pop Matters

“…either Callers will be the next big thing on the scene, or Fortune will become a sought-after rarity. Highly recommended.” – All Music Guide

Brooklyn trio Callers are set to release their second full-length, Life of Love, on October 12th via Western Vinyl. The follow-up to their lauded debut Fortune, the album brazenly combines the compositional forms of jazz and post-punk, while bringing a sense of soulful and melodic expression to the table.

After sharing vans and stages with acts such as Dirty Projectors, Akron/Family, Dan Deacon and Here We Go Magic, touring throughout the US, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Czech Republic and Holland, Callers found themselves inspired and reinvented. A new record was born.

Moving between proper studios and home setups, the album started with the idea of covering Wire’s “Heartbeat.” The goal was to create something simple, yet cathartic, soulful and true to the sound of the busted gear you’d find in a Midwest high school gospel choir performance. Basic tracking for Life of Love was done at the historic Seizure’s Palace in Gowanus, Brooklyn, chosen for its immense drum room of rough cut stone (a former military ammunition warehouse), most notable for early Sonic Youth albums, Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit” and works by Devendra Banhart, Fred Frith, John Zorn and others.

Expect to see Callers tour extensively in support of Life of Love during the fall and winter months of 2010, into the spring of the new year.

ROSANNE CASH LAUNCHES MULTI-CITY BOOK TOUR FOR LONG-AWAITED MEMOIR, COMPOSED, DUE FROM VIKING ON AUGUST 10TH ACCLAIMED SINGER-SONGWRITER TO APPEAR ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA ON AUGUST 10TH

ROSANNE CASH LAUNCHES MULTI-CITY BOOK TOUR FOR LONG-AWAITED MEMOIR, COMPOSED, DUE FROM VIKING ON AUGUST 10TH ACCLAIMED SINGER-SONGWRITER TO APPEAR ON GOOD MORNING AMERICA ON AUGUST 10TH

CASH’S CRITICALLY HERALDED ALBUM, THE LIST, NOMINATED FOR AMERICANA MUSIC ASSOCIATION AWARD FOR “ALBUM OF THE YEAR”

After 30 years as a critically acclaimed singer and songwriter, Rosanne Cash shares her recollections growing up as Johnny Cash’s eldest daughter and coming into her own as a performer, daughter, and mother in a long-awaited memoir, entitled Composed (Viking), which will go on sale August 10th, 2010.

The same day, Cash will embark on a multi-city book tour to read selections from Composed, sign copies, and perform a few songs at select stops. Attendees will be treated to personal anecdotes from Cash’s extraordinary life that she tells in Composed with the trademark intelligence, compassion, humor, and honesty that also informs her songwriting.

Composed has already attracted praise from Kirkus, which called it “beautifully written meditations on love, death, family, and redemption” in its starred review, and Publishers Weekly, which called it “a rare treat” that “sheds clear light on her talent and drive” in its starred review. Composed has also been praised by songwriter Elvis Costello, who calls it “extraordinarily and dauntingly honest” and by Cash’s fellow authors, Bill Flanagan (Evening’s Empire), Daniel J. Levitin (This Is Your Brain on Music), and Adriana Trigiani (best-selling author of the Big Stone Gap series and Brava, Valentine), who calls it “a lush and glorious memoir that is wise and knowing, humorous and full of hope.”

Cash will make a number of media appearances in support of Composed. On August 10th, she will be interviewed on Good Morning America and perform a song from her first-ever covers album, The List, which was released in October 2009. A frequent guest on NPR, Cash will also be interviewed for “All Things Considered” in a segment airing the week of August 10th, and on WAMU’s “The Diane Rehm Show” on August 12th. She will also perform as a duo with her husband and guitarist John Leventhal at Southold High School in Southold, NY, on August 21st (after which she will sign copies of Composed), as well as with her band at the Minnesota State Fair on August 30th and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on October 2nd.

Over the course of her career, Cash has recorded fourteen albums, including 1981’s gold Seven Year Ache and 1987’s gold King’s Record Shop, and charted 21 Top 40 country singles, 11 of which climbed to No. 1. She has received ten Grammy Award nominations — winning in 1985 — and was nominated last December for “Sea of Heartbreak,” a duet with Bruce Springsteen on The List, which is eligible for Grammy consideration this year. The album, which Vanity Fair called “superb,” debuted in the Top 5 on the Country Chart, and entered the Billboard 200 at No. 22. The List has been nominated for “Album of the Year” by The Americana Music Association, which will announce the 2010 winners in a ceremony held September 9th at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Cash will attend and perform at the event.

Cash is also the author of Bodies of Water and the children’s book Penelope Jane: A Fairy’s Tale. Her essays and fiction have been published in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and New York magazine.

Psychic Chasms, the debut full-length from Neon Indian, will be released as a newly mastered deluxe edition on CD and double Vinyl on September 28, 2010 and digitally on August 31 via FADER Label / Static Tongues. The new version of the album, which is augmented by Mind Ctrl: Psychic Chasms Possessed, contains nine bonus tracks consisting of exclusive remixes and cover versions by Toro Y Moi, DNTEL, Bibio, Javelin, YACHT and more. The band will also tour this Fall with Prefuse 73 and Miniature Tigers, in addition to their previously announced headlining dates, and shows with Chromeo and Phoenix.

In June, FADER Label welcomed Neon Indian to their roster and announced plans for the re-release of their critically acclaimed debut Psychic Chasms in a unique partnership with Static Tongues, the label started by Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo. Prior to this announcement, the Brooklyn by-way-of Austin four piece ended a series of dates that included sets at Sasquatch, Pitchfork Fest and Bonnaroo, and a string of performances with Massive Attack.

Psychic Chasms was first released on indie-label Lefse Records last October and has since been embraced by numerous critics including those at SPIN, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Wall Street Journal and Pitchfork, among others. In February 2010, Neon Indian made their late night TV debut with a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and most recently, released the single “Sleep Paralysist” on Green Label Sound. The track, produced by Palomo in collaboration with Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear, is the first original new music from Neon Indian since the debut album last Fall.

Tobacco Premieres Video For “Grape Aerosmith” (Feat. Beck), Gears Up For Fall Tour

TOBACCO PREMIERES VIDEO FOR “GRAPE AEROSMITH” (FEAT. BECK), GEARS UP FOR FALL TOUR!

Tobacco, whose Maniac Meat is out now on Anticon, takes his musical freak-show on the road again this fall, his assortment of spine-tingling synths, film oddities, and unorthodox talk-box in tow. He’s also just premiered a new video for the Beck-guested song “Grape Aerosmith.” Directed, shot, and edited by Allen Cordell, here is what the director has to say about this bit of instant-classic weirdness:

“When I was given the opportunity to direct the video for “Grape Aerosmith”, I really wanted to make something that worked perfectly with the song, but at the same time was something you wouldn’t normally expect right off the bat. I tried to establish this frustrated guy at work and present it in a playful, docu-drama aesthetic, something akin to The Office. That way, by the time he’s in the woods going insane there’s a pay-off because you don’t see it coming. It makes you wonder about the guy you just met moments before. And by the end, after being confronted by the psychedelic spirits, our protagonist is cleansed, enlightened by the surreal experience. One of the inspirations for this video, aside from the music, was the Japanese horror film Tetsuo the Iron Man, particularly the scenes in the subway when he starts to lose it.”

Watch the video for “Grape Aerosmith” (feat. Beck)

Be sure to catch Tobacco on his tour this fall!

The Whigs are excited to make their Tonight Show with Jay Leno debut August 12th. The performance comes in support of their latest album, IN THE DARK, which has been hailed by many for what Newsday praises as “blending melodies from 70s Rolling Stones and 80s Replacements with 90s grunge underpinnings to build a whole new rock animal.” The Athens, GA trio, who just completed a tour with The Hold Steady, will join the Kings of Leon and Black Keys for a series of dates beginning September 2nd. The band will also make appearances at this year’s Outside Lands, Bumbershoot and Voodoo Music Festivals. Tour dates below.

The Whigs are proud to be a part of Spin Magazine’s 25th Anniversary concert series in New York City. The band will perform with The Black Keys tonight, Wednesday, July 28th.

Since the release of IN THE DARK, the band has performed on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, completed a USO tour of Germany and The UK, shared the stage with the Kings of Leon in Hyde Park (London, UK) and toured with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Band Of Skulls, among others.

BIG JAY OAKERSON ANNOUNCES SEVERAL STAND-UP PERFORMANCE DATES IN NEW YORK, SAN FRANCISCO, SACRAMENTO, AND MORE

BIG JAY OAKERSON ANNOUNCES SEVERAL STAND-UP PERFORMANCE DATES IN NEW YORK, SAN FRANCISCO, SACRAMENTO, AND MORE!

Queens, NY native Big Jay Oakerson is pleased to announce a brand new set of stand-up comedy dates! Big Jay will be visiting many locations such as Kansas City, KS, New York, NY, San Francisco, CA, and Sacramento, CA! See below for all current dates! Big Jay will also be performing for the remainder of the summer on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival! He will be introducing bands in between sets, performing his hysterical brand of comedy, as well as walking around and interacting with the crowd.

Comedian Big Jay Oakerson currently has a new full length, digital-only album, An American Storyteller on COMEDY CENTRAL Records. Oakerson’s story-based style of stand-up comedy got its start after a series of dead-end jobs, including driving strippers and escorts around his hometown of Philly. Now the New York City resident has made comedy his full-time job, flooring audiences with true tales of odd threesomes and bizarre sexual encounters. An American Storyteller, recorded at Standup New York, is a one-hour onslaught of unbridled awesomeness and raunchy rock ‘n’ roll hilarity.

Comedian Oakerson has emerged as one of the most sought after attractions in the industry. Only a ten year veteran, a youngling in the world of stand-up, Oakerson has already performed at two of the most prestigious festivals in the business, the “Just for Laughs” Comedy Festival in Montreal and the HBO “U.S. Comedy Arts Festival” in Aspen, CO.

Oakerson is currently starring on the hit IFC show “Z-Rock,” where he received critical acclaim for his performance as “Neil”, the sexually ambiguous owner of a NYC rock club. His television credits include COMEDY CENTRAL’s “Premium Blend” and “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn,” multiple appearances on BET’s “Comic View” and P. Diddy’s “Bad Boys of Comedy” on HBO. Oakerson can also be seen hosting Spike’s “Movies On TAP” with Patrice O’Neal.

The Sword Plot Global Domination With World Tour Warp Riders Hits Stores August 24th on Kemado Records

The Sword Plot Global Domination With World Tour Warp Riders Hits Stores August 24th on Kemado Records

The Sword’s legacy in the metal world has been rapidly growing since they formed in 2003. Their recent stints opening for legends such as Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, and Motorhead have helped them garner praise from fans both young and old. Now on the heels of releasing of “Tres Brujas,” the first single from their forthcoming new album, The Sword have set their sights on their next move – a headlining world tour in support of Warp Riders (August 24th; Kemado Records).

The band has amped up their sound on what is truly a behemoth of a new album. Produced by Matt Bayles (Pearl Jam, Mastodon, Isis), The Sword stretched themselves beyond the pure metal they’re known for by touching on other forms of heavy rock as well. Warp Riders is also the band’s first concept album, and consists of an epic sci-fi narrative loaded with dazzling imagery. Stay tuned for a video trilogy that puts The Sword themselves in the middle of the action.

KING KHAN AND THE SHRINES TO EMBARK ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

SOUL-PSYCHEDELIC-GARAGE LEGENDS TO TEACH MIDWEST AND NORTHEAST TO DANCE IN TWO WEEKS OR LESS

King Khan, master of his domain, as well as any and all domains related to the cross-section of ear bending psychedelia, scorched rubber garage, and love potion dripping soul, is poised for another assault on American shores this October. Following this past Spring’s celebrated “Comeback Tour”, which culminated in a fire hazardous performance at Coachella, the master performer detected that the corners of the US left untouched by the former outing were in dire need of a dose of his mystical medicine. Now would be a good time to start polishing your dancing shoes.

Teddy Andreadis (Guns N’ Roses) added to Dallas and Chicago!
David Uosikkinen (The Hooters) added to Philadelphia!

More special surprise guests to be announced.

It’s a true rock ‘n’ roll awakening that only campers attending this fall’s four “Weekend Warrior” Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camps can truly understand. Simply put, there is no VIP offer any concert promoter can make anywhere that compares to the “ultimate” backstage experience campers get at ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP (RRFC) – especially at the Recession-busting rates of the “Weekend Warrior” camps.

That’s why Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp is going on tour this fall, with an exclusive East Coast camp in Philadelphia (Oct. 22-24 a the Trocadero); a West Coast camp in San Francisco (Nov. 5-7 at the Fillmore); a Southwest camp in Dallas (Nov 12-14 at the House of Blues) and a Midwest camp in Chicago (Nov. 19-21 at the House of Blues). Campers will be traveling across state lines to live out their rock ‘n’ roll fantasies while having the ultimate backstage experience of their lives with head counselor Dickey Betts (co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band), along with camp counselors Mark Farner (formerly of Grand Funk Railroad), Mark Hudson (Aerosmith), Kip Winger (Winger), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot, Ozzy) and Sandy Gennaro (Joan Jett).

And look who now will be making special guest counselor appearances: Mitch Ryder in Chicago, Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters, Wallflowers) in Philly and San Francisco; Teddy Andreadis (Guns N’ Roses) in Dallas and Chicago, and David Uosikkinen (The Hooters) in Philadephia. With more to be announced!

Rock pundits from Rolling Stone to the New York Times are noting with anguish this summer that while vast numbers of people are losing their jobs and homes, the VIP packages once reserved for megastars like U2 and the Rolling Stones are trickling down to the rank-and-file of live performers to prop up a struggling industry . As artists desperately try to maximize grosses in an ailing economy, they’re giving you the opportunity to pay even more than the already inflated ticket prices to feel like you’re getting closer to them. But how much more do you really get?

As the New York Times recently noted, Bon Jovi has been offering an $1875 VIP package that includes a leather bag, a catered meal and a take-home folding chair with the band’s logo. But where’s the genuine band interaction?

By comparison, for $1999, “Weekend Warrior” campers gain admission to a three-day camp with over a half-dozen rock star counselors, two lunches, a ticket to the final night concert opening night cocktail party and dinner, a swag bag and most of all – learning and playing all weekend long with the rock star counselors. Pay a little more and you get things like autographed guitars and drum heads, a DVD of the final concert (with YOU in it), the opportunity to write and record original songs, take Master Classes, and receive concert tickets and private meet-and-greets for 10 of your closest friends and family members. Consider all of your rock ‘n’ roll fantasies truly fulfilled. Chair or no chair, these three-day camps will change your life!

No top-dollar VIP package being offered by an act on tour this summer even comes close: Not by the Black Eyed Peas, not even by Justin Bieber. Sure, you can grab a quick picture with KISS for a $999 concert ticket; but the Eagles won’t even let you snap a single shot. Some rockers will take a quick “pic” with VIP’s who’ve stood in a long line waiting for that brief few seconds of face time. Some will offer a glass of wine. Almost all will guarantee you a seat in the first 10 rows and a free t-shirt – but would you expect a seat any further away at that price?

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP shows you what a real VIP package looks like, giving you everything those other packages offer (well, maybe not the take-home chair), with the true promise of the most genuine rock star interaction you could imagine. And with your favorite rock legends. YOU and the rock stars are the concert, and you work together with your rock star counselors to attain that moment, the grand finale, at a renowned rock concert venue.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FANTASY CAMP has never been more accessible, thanks to these new, Recession-busting “Weekend Warrior” packages. For that once-in-a-lifetime experience, a deposit of just $299 will save you, a friend or family member a limited spot. It’s an irresistible combination that affords the opportunity to embark on a widely acclaimed adventure, as TV viewers around the world will see this fall when VH1 Classic’s weekly hour-long docu-series premieres. Each day is a new thrilling challenge for the “rock campers.” “Weekend Warrior” packages start at $1999 for this once-in-a-lifetime weekend-long experience.
