It’s All Bout the Bling and the Flow…

Bottled in the dirty south (Dandridge, Tennessee) and delivered crystal clear to anyone feeling the need to make it rain on them ho’s for $25 – $75 a bottle.

I’m not referring to Ludacris’ sad attempt to “conjure” his way into the alcoholic beverage industry, I’m talking about Bling H20.
That’s right ladies and gentlemen this specific brand of water comes with ballin’ credentials, and looks great.

Winner of the gold medal at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Festival, for best tasting water. The product comes in a vast array of colours, and has recently been setting trends on the upper class wedding scene. But I guess those getting married already carry the label of sucker, so it wasn’t a far stretch for marketers to zero in on such an easy prey.
Nonetheless it’s always nice to show off one’s Bling, and staying hydrated has never been more econonimacally unsound.

Many more including Evian, have been recently exploring the ways in which to make us drop a paycheck on something we all get for free.

Thankfully blind taste tests in New York asked Bling H20 to put it’s money where our mouths are. They pitted Manhattan tap water against critically acclaimed Bling H20, the results? Manhattan Tap water was deemed best-tasting and as for Bling? it was determined to taste like normal tap water.
Go figure.

Watch this video and revel in the fact that you can’t possibly be dumb enough to buy into this liquid bullshit.

Seabear to Tour the US in the Fall

“Seabear’s quiet execution gives its music a breezy quality. It’s a sonically lush whisper, sharing secrets with anyone curious enough to listen.” – NPR

“Seabear sounds like nothing you want to keep to yourself… rolling out hushed, percolating songs about dreamless sleep and punching holes in the sun. The tunes are no less intimate than their bedroom origins” – Paste Magazine “Emergent Artist”

“… intricate melodies, with its confetti-strewn walk through woods and trippy, fireworks display” – Filter Magazine

Icelandic dream-pop septet Seabear will be heading to the US in the fall in support of their sophomore release, We Built A Fire (Morr Music). The band has been touring throughout Europe and will return to the states after their first ever North American tour this past spring.

The spring tour included shows at SXSW, one of which was filmed in its entirety for Baeble. The band was also filmed performing live in Reykjavik for the Inspired by Iceland campaign, which worked to gain support for Iceland in light of the recent volcanic eruption. This spring, their track “Cold Summer” was featured on Grey’s Anatomy.

Seabear has also recently launched a Coverversion contest, in which the band will handpick the best covers to Seabear songs submitted via the contest’s YouTube page. The winner will receive a +1 guestlist spot, will meet the band and will perform their cover live directly before the Seabear show at one of the US dates.

In conjunction with the tour, Seabear are releasing the single for the We Built A Fire track “Wolfboy” as well as launching a remix contest for the track (embeddable stream of single available on contest site). Also, be sure to check out Seabear’s “incendiary” video for “I’ll Build You a Fire.”

The Drums The Drums (September 14, 2010; Downtown Records) “Down By The Water” MP3 Available Now! Co-Headlining North American Tour With Surfer Blood

“…all heart and hooks.” – The New York Times

“…totally addictive.” – NYLON

“A band to fall in love with” – NME

“one of the best indie pop debuts of the year.” – Rolling Stone

Riding a wave of international acclaim, The Drums are thrilled to share the new “Down By The Water” MP3. A true departure from earlier singles the band slows the tempo showing their versatility with this new track. Check out New York Magazine’s “Vulture” piece where the stream premiered today.

Stacked against the summer’s dance-inducing releases, “Down By The Water” is a breath of fresh air. Paring the production down to a slow bass line, light percussion, and a distant synthesizer, the most pronounced instrument is Jonny Pierce’s voice, which opens softly and elevates to a sharp croon. The minimalist production however, does not negate the intensity of the lyrics. “Down By The Water” is a love song. “Everybody’s gotta love someone, but I just want to love you dear… you’ve got to believe me when I say the words forever,”pleads Pierce.

The Drums have been wowing European audiences for the better part of the last year, and now they’re bringing their electrifying live show to North America on a co-headlining tour with Surfer Blood! The band is currently in the midst of a massive worldwide tour and the North American dates are sure to be the most explosive yet! The album is out now digitally in the US and will be available in stores September 14th.

Holysons to release new album Survivalist Tales

Emil Amos, world renowned as drummer of the illustrious experimental rock groups Om and Grails, has an increasingly prolific, though relatively unknown, solo career under the moniker HolySons. Home recording over 1000 songs since the project’s inception in 1992, Amos has spent the better part of the last two decades honing his song writing and production skills over a wide swath of genres in a mission to capture his internal world sonically. Only a handful of shows have ever been played under the name (including opening stints for Quasi, Devendra Banhart, Will Oldham, J Mascis, Daniel Johnson, and a show at a community center in Dharmasala, India) and none of the records have been traditionally promoted, developing a dedicated underground fan-base through word of mouth alone.

Survivalist Tales is HolySons’ 9th record, and represents the apex of Emil Amos’ obsession to push stylistic genres to their breaking point while wrenching psyche-anthems out of the darkest frontiers of self-confrontation. The songs are a seemingly impossible blend of nightmarish Blade Runner-esque moog music with the darkest side of 70’s easy-listening psyche and feature some of the most unabashedly soaring choruses Amos has ever put to tape. Combining avant-sound collage with lyrics culled from the hard-won truths of self-exploration, Survivalist Tales builds a beautiful imagining of future music. For the first time ever Amos is poised to present the project publicly; the upcoming tour supporting Scout Niblett can legitimately be described as HolySons’ first tour.

Amanda Palmer Starring In Special Production Of “CABARET” This Fall!

Amanda Palmer Starring In Special Production Of “CABARET” This Fall!

Having now successfully released her cover of digital and online ukulele Radiohead covers, Amanda Palmer is making her next move…to the stage. Palmer will be teaming up with the prestigious The American Repertory Theater (who, in 2006, also presented The Dresden Dolls theatrical journey “The Onion Cellar” to rave reviews) and her beloved High School drama teacher and artistic mentor, Steven Bogart, with whom she recently co-created (along with a cast of 20 drama students from Lexington High School) the Neutral Milk Hotel and Anne frank-inspired original play “With the Needle That Sings in Her Heart” for a special production of “Cabaret”.

“This production has been ten years in the making – an ongoing fantasy I’ve had in the back of my mind”, says Palmer. “I’ve wanted to collaborate on ‘Cabaret’ with Bogart ever since I helped him with make-up & dialogue during his 2001 production of the show at Lexington High School. I was so inspired by his version of the show that I yearned for it to reach a wider audience – Bogart is truly a hidden gem of a director. Having worked with lots of directors now, I’ve come to realize how special and brazen he is in terms of the artistic risks he’ll take.”

“Cabaret”, a musical based on Christopher Isherwood’s “Berlin Stories”, is set in the seedy Kit Kat Klub nightclub in Berlin in 1931, and follows the Nazi rise to power against the backdrop of Weimar decadence. Palmer will be playing the role of the Emcee/Master of Ceremonies.

“People often don’t have the slightest clue what ‘Cabaret’ is actually about – they know the Liza Minnelli tune and don’t realize that the actual song ‘Cabaret’ is about as dark as it gets – that it’s being sung by a strung-out coke addict about to get an abortion that she pays for by hocking her clothes. It’s an incredibly dark show with an incendiary message that’s still very relevant today.”

The venue, OBERON in Harvard Square, has a full bar and will be functioning as a proper nightclub with classic cabaret seating and table service. “It doesn’t make sense to me to do this show as a proscenium production – you want to be INSIDE of the Kit Kat Klub… not observing it.” She adds: “This production is going to be messy, risky, sexy and immersive. People won’t know what hit them the minute they walk in the door – we’re creating an entire world that covers every inch of the venue.”

The American Repertory Theater season also includes an original musical “Prometheus Bound” by System of a Down’s Serj Tankian (Tankian and Palmer are sharing a Music Director, long-time Palmer-collaborator Lance Horne) and “Alice VS Wonderland”, a re-imagining of the classic Carroll story brought to life by powerhouse director Janos Szas.

Boston-based indie popsters The Hush Now has announced the release of their new EP, Shiver Me Starships, the follow-up to their successful album Constellations. The EP is scheduled for release on September 28th, at which point it will be
available as a free download on their website. The band will be celebrating the release of the EP on September 24th at The Living Room in New York City.
Give us a shout if you’d like to join!

The band has already seen significant buzz, thanks to early radio support on both sides of the Atlantic with their last album Constellations. It charted in the CMJ Top 50, received some Morning Becomes Eclectic love, as well as from BBC’s Radio 6, drawing comparisons to such influential artists as My Bloody Valentine, Guided By Voices, The Cure, and more. The album was recorded with David Newton of the The Mighty Lemon Drops in LA- the studio flooded on the first day of recording, which might have appeared to be a bad omen, yet came to serve as an unconventional good luck charm; the rest of the recording went flawlessly,
resulting in the successful production of an amazing album.

Furiously touring across the US in support of their previous release, their shows led them down to SXSW 2010, where they played no less than 6 showcases throughout the week. With the tour wrapped, The Hush Now returned to the studio to begin work on Shiver Me Starships, which they self-produced and plan to release for free on their website.

The EP was mixed by Benny Grotto (The Dresden Dolls), and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Magnetic Fields). The Hush Now is currently planning a full U.S tour in support of the release, then will be headed back to the studio to work on their
forthcoming full-length, due out in the Spring.

Upcoming Tour Dates:

August 2 – Allston, MA – Great Scott
August 7 – Somersville, MA – P.A.’s Lounge
August 13 – Bangor, ME – Kahbang Festival
September 24 – New York, NY – The Living Room (EP Release Show)

Clare and the Reasons Join Van Dyke Parks for Fall Tour

Brooklyn-based Clare and the Reasons, fronted by Clare and Olivier Manchon, will be heading on the road with the legendary Van Dyke Parks for a fall tour. The concerts will offer a set from Clare and the Reasons, followed by a set from Van Dyke Parks, backed by the Reasons. Parks will perform new renditions of songs from the beloved “Song Cycle” as well as newly written songs, never before performed live.

The two recently performed their double-bill concerts at Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Richard Thompson’s Meltdown Festival in the UK, Paradiso in Amsterdam and played a string of dates together last February on the west coast.

Most recently, both artists have been indulging their orchestral sides, as Parks played Roskilde with a symphony orchestra and Clare and the Reasons played with members of the Orchestre de Paris, the Paris Opera, The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Royal Swedish Philharmonic. Clare and the Reasons will tour Europe later in the fall, including a performance with a symphony orchestra in Paris.

Collaboratively, the two are developing a project with an orchestra that Parks has been working on for over a decade: highlighting Depression Era radio music, with focus on songs never brought to disc or digital release. Aiming for symphonic arenas, it’ll feature the arranging skills of Parks and Olivier Manchon.

Just before the tour, Clare and the Reasons will be sent to Paris by Vogue Magazine to perform at Paris Fashion Week. In time for the tour, Clare and the Reasons will be releasing a digital live album in September, recorded in Amsterdam. Clare and the Reasons and Van Dyke Parks will also be giving away a collaborative live track, the classic Harry Nilsson song “He Needs Me.” In between all this, Clare and the Reasons are perfecting the art of making Kale chips and bee-keeping.

Attention ANGELS OF BABYLON fans! Make sure to catch bassist David Ellefson on the road with MEGADETH this summer on the American Carnage Tour with Testament and Slayer! See below for all current tour dates featuring David Ellefson! ANGELS OF BABYLON released their Burnhill Union Records debut, Kingdom of Evil, this past Tuesday, July 27th! The record is now remastered, and features three previously unreleased tracks. Kingdom of Evil was released in Europe by Metal Heaven Records in January of 2010, and in Japan with Hydrant Music in May of 2010. Download Kingdom of Evil for free at the Burnhill Union Records website, today!

ANGELS OF BABYLON features former MANOWAR drummer Rhino, Arizona based power-metal vocalist David Fefolt, guitarist Ethan Brosh and MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson. With this intense line-up of heavy metal greats and sharp musicians, ANGELS OF BABYLON is sure to see success in this evolving industry and genre. Forging ahead with the sounds of classic metal, while bringing fusion of new technique and prowess, the band is a new force to be reckoned with. With the launch of Kingdom of Evil worldwide, Earth will soon know the excellence that is ANGELS OF BABYLON.

ANGELS OF BABYLON drummer and Nashville, TN native Rhino began compiling tracks featured on Kingdom of Evil many years ago, but was patiently waiting for the optimum lineup to record and release an album. Rhino is well known for his amazing work with MANOWAR. In 1991, Rhino appeared on The Triumph of Steel; one of MANOWAR’s best selling album to date. Rhino continued on with MANOWAR, touring Europe multiple times and cruising through Japan between 1992-1995. Rhino left MANOWAR in 1995 to pursue personal interest. In the coming years, Rhino was soon introduced to Fefolt, Ellefson and Brosh, and they provided the key to his inspiration to forge ahead and complete the album.

Vocalist David Fefolt feels this album will surprise a lot of people due to its classic metal sound, but with an accent of majestic arrangements throughout. Fefolt was a member of the epic metal band, VALHALLA, and their debut album is still considered one of the staples of metal vinyl collectors worldwide.

Bassist David Ellefson is well known for his time with thrash icons MEGADETH. From1983 to 2002, Ellefson held his place as the co-founder and original bassist in the band. In February of 2010, Ellefson rejoined the ranks of MEGADETH, just in time for the much anticipated “Rust In Peace” 20th Anniversary tour of North America, aside fellow thrash legends TESTAMENT and EXODUS.

Guitarist Ethan Brosh graduated from Berklee in 2004 with honors and a major in songwriting before returning to the school in 2008 to teach. Brosh is currently an instructor in the guitar sessions program. His debut instrumental album Out of Oblivion, was released on March 24th 2009 by Magna Carta Records, and features impressive guest appearances and production credits.
