Callers Release First Single Off Sophomore Album, Life of Love

“…effortless from start to finish, and is only made more complex and appealing given the diversity of its songs.” – NPR

“Callers make an indescribable, codeine-ready micro-ruckus that straddles some downtown-via-Bedford line between grandiose indie rock gestures, art-jazz slither, dusty folk, and swooning soul. The band understands how to seamlessly mix disparate sounds.” – Village Voice

“…I actually had to shut it off because it got to be too much. And of course, that’s meant as high praise.” – Pitchfork

Brooklyn trio Callers have released their first single, “You Are An Arc,” the first song off their sophomore album, Life of Love, out October 12th on Western Vinyl.

Check out the track at their Sound of the City Interview with the Village Voice, and as AOL Spinner’s mp3 of the Day today. If you want the original version, you can download it here.

Life of Love combines the compositional forms of jazz and post-punk, while bringing a sense of soulful and melodic expression to the table. Moving between proper studios and home setups, the goal was to create something simple, yet cathartic, soulful and true to the sound of the busted gear you’d find in a Midwest high school gospel choir performance. The album also features a great cover of Wire’s “Heartbeat.” Recorded at the historic Seizure’s Palace (Sonic Youth, Herbie Hancock, Devendra Banhart, John Zorn) in Gowanus, Brooklyn, the studio was chosen for its immense drum room of rough cut stone (a former military ammunition warehouse).

After sharing vans and stages with acts such as Dirty Projectors, Akron/Family, Dan Deacon and Here We Go Magic, Callers are preparing for an extensive tour behind Life of Love, dates to be announced soon.

Callers Upcoming Tour Dates:
9/8 – Brooklyn, NY – Zebulon w/ El Sportivo, Callers, and Big Search.
9/19 – Brooklyn, NY – Littlefield w/ Charlie Looker (Extra Life)
10/6 – Brooklyn, NY – Zebulon w/ Highlife (Doug Shaw from Gang Gang Dance)
