“Lock up your auto tune. Hide your American Idol dolls. Burn your dream journal. Alain Johannes is releasing his musical Kraken, Spark. It will destroy all manufactured, contrived, 2% music in the land. Spark is undeniable.”
-Joshua Homme

Alain Johannes’ gorgeous, unflinchingly raw album Spark hits stores this Tuesday, October 5th on Queens of the Stone Age/Them Crooked Vultures frontman Joshua Homme’s label, Rekords Rekords (co-released by Ipecac Recordings). However, as an early treat Alain is giving his fans not one but two new tracks for free. If you haven’t already caught it when it premiered over at, click HERE to stream/download “Return To You.” Though it’s anchored by deceptively sunny melodies, the track carries an immense emotional weight as Alain sings “Take me away / make me forget this is real.” The other song is a non-album bonus track called “Fall To Grace.” Click HERE to stream it, or download it for free by entering an email address or sharing it with friends through social networking sites. Starting @ 10am tomorrow you can also listen to Spark in its entirety on and

Having collaborated with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, Brody Dalle’s Spinnerette, and Mark Lanegan to name a few, Alain already has a reputation as an inventive and highly expressive guitarist. With Spark he proves himself to be a soulful vocalist and skillful songwriter as well. The album also reveals flamenco, classical, and Indian music as a major influence on his playing and one of the reasons why his style is so unique.

After the passing of Natasha Schneider, Alain’s late wife and creative partner, he began writing solo material both as an homage to her, and as a means of wrestling with the complex emotions he was experiencing. The resulting songs that make up Spark take listeners on a breathtaking journey they will want to experience over and over again.

Funeral Party, a five-piece from the East L.A. suburb of Whittier, are pleased to announce January 25, 2011 as the new U.S. release date for their debut album Golden Age Of Knowhere.

Rising out of the East L.A. party scene, Funeral Party has made their presence known worldwide, earning a spot on NME’s 50 Best New Bands of 2010, a spotlight feature in UK’s famed Q Magazine and added to BBC Radio Zane Lowe’s “Hottest Record in the World” playlist. The Los Angeles Times also proclaims that lead singer Chad Elliot “…[makes] a good case for being the best male vocalist in local rock right now.”

Soon after signing with RCA Records, Funeral Party, whose name was inspired by a Cure song of the same title, finished recording tracks for their full-length debut, Golden Age of Knowhere. The album was produced by Lars Stalfors (Matt & Kim, The Mars Volta) and mixed by Dave Sardy (Band of Horses, LCD Soundsystem, Oasis).

The first three songs on Golden Age of Knowhere – “New York City Moves to the Sound of L.A.,” “Carwars,” and first U.S. single, “Finale” – establish Funeral Party’s up-tempo onslaught. The recently released video for their UK hit “Just Because,” directed by Mike Relm, was praised by BBC’s Chart Blog, calling it “one hell of a pop song.”

Funeral Party’s energetic live act led to opening slots alongside the likes of Yelle, Trail of Dead, and Julian Casablancas, as well as appearances at South By Southwest and Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. Fresh off a busy summer with stops at Reading and Leeds, the band will spend their Fall on the road with Irish trio Two Door Cinema Club. Stay tuned for details on their CMJ appearances.

Neon Indian to Play 10/03 in Boston

The Levi’s® brand and Urban Outfitters are bringing Boston music fans a free concert with a twist – a show by Neon Indian powered exclusively by generators in a truly unique and top-secret location. The first show of the “Secret Generator Series” happened last weekend with Deerhunter playing a show below an underpass in downtown Chicago. Now it’s time to announce the secret Boston location for the Neon Indian show. . .

But first, a little back-story: earlier this month Deerhunter and Neon Indian were announced as the Secret Generator Series artists, but the cities (Chicago and Boston) as well as the show dates (September 25 and October 3) weren’t revealed until Urban Outfitters’ Facebook fans and Twitter followers figured it out.

However, one important question remained: Where would the concerts take place? Because the shows are powered exclusively by generators, the show locations could be anywhere. A series of photo clues of the Boston location were posted on the Urban Outfitters blog, kicking off wild speculation. A few savvy souls figured out the correct location, and today comes the official announcement:

Neon Indian will play the Levi’s® + Urban Outfitters Generator Series show Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Power Station at 540 Harrison Avenue in South Boston. Doors at 3pm, show at 4pm.

Roxy (Myzal, HardDrive producer) has been there since the beginning and HardDrive have been huge supporters of the band over the years. It will also be great to be on tour with our friends in 10 Years and, of course, as always – playing for our Sevendust family.”

HardDrive host, Lou Brutus added, “We know our radio shows touch people daily, but with a live concert tour we can REALLY reach out and touch both our affiliates and our listeners. It’s always been about the music for us, and there’s nothing that tops a live concert experience for fans, especially hardcore fans like me and the rest of the HardDrive staff.”

HardDrive with Lou Brutus debuted on July 5, 1996. With 125 radio stations broadcasting the show, HardDrive is America’s longest running new rock show supporting the careers of hundreds of groups from Korn to Five Finger Death Punch. Multi-platinum metal band Slipknot received some of their first national airplay on the two-hour week-end syndicated show. “…Miami Horror, the Aussie outfit who make music so beautiful it hurts…sound so robust it makes the disco it emulates almost pale in comparison.” – Black Book

“…they’re a synthesis of so many sounds ranging from disco, prog rock like ELO, some 80’s like Talking Heads, trip hop and so many other sounds to neatly pigeon hole.” –

“Miami Horror manages to stand out among the clutter, though, by doing it just as well, if not better, than everyone else.” – The Dallas Observer

“As a debut album, ‘Illumination’ is a wonderful start of something we hope to be around for a long time.” – Chicagoist

Class Actress Prepares For Tour, Releases Extended EP

“Unabashedly slick electro-pop beats juxtaposed with coy, romantically
depressed vocals courtesy of star-in-the-making Elizabeth Harper.” – New York Magazine

to frosty sonics that helped make the music of her influences so memorable.” – Pitchfork “Rising” Artist

“[Class Actress’] super 80s vibe made the scene feel like the climax of a John Hughes movie, aka awesome. At the end of their set, I had hearts in my eyes.”- BUST
