Washington, DC grindcore trio Magrudergrind are set to release their new EP Crusher via Scion A/V this month on CD and 10″ vinyl with online mp3 sales to follow in January. Paying homage in sound and feel to the era the cover art evokes (a none-too-subtle homage to the 1989 genre-defining Grindcrusher compilation), the six ferocious blasts on display here barely crack the 11 minute mark, trafficking in a punishing combination of suffocating density and pulverizing emotional depth.

Deriving their name from a D.C. housing project near their original rehearsal space, their consistently ferocious recordings distill the most affecting elements of grind, crust, and thrash, while pairing perfectly with unflinchingly socially conscious lyric matter. The trio has displayed a remarkable work ethic, rising to prominence in the underground hardcore scene through a tireless tour schedule that has brought them to Puerto Rico, Japan, Southeast Asia, and multiple trips across Europe and North America.

Magrudergrind will release the “Crusher” EP on 10″ and CD through Scion A/V on November 22, 2010. The release is available for free download until it’s online sale date of January, 18th

Rock band Thirty Seconds To Mars began releasing daily teasers yesterday of their hotly-anticipated video/short film for new single “Hurricane” feat. Kanye West on their website www.thirtysecondstomars.com and youtube channel www.youtube.com/30secondstomars. The teasers will The full version of the short film will premiere on mtv.com at 5pm EST on Monday, November 29th with 1 of 3 short broadcast versions premiering in primetime that evening on MTV2 . The band released the first of the series of teasers last week, giving fans a sneak peak of the Bartholomew Cubbins directed video which was shot on location in New York City. Long time Thirty Seconds To Mars collaborator, Cubbins has helmed many of the band’s videos including this year’s MTV VMA winning video for “Kings & Queens,” the first single from their album This Is War. Thirty Seconds To Mars also won a 2010 EMA award for Best Rock Band and Best International Band at this year’s Kerrang! Awards.

This Is War’s 3rd single “Closer To The Edge” is currently climbing the alternative radio charts where it broke into the top 10 this week. It is the follow up to the albums 2-consecutive #1 singles “Kings & Queens” and “This Is War.” “Closer To The Edge” will impact Top 40 radio in January.

The band has spent most of the last year touring the world in support of This Is War. They are currently headlining a sold-out arena tour throughout Europe which includes a night at London’s legendary O2 Arena. They return to the U.S. for a special New Year’s Eve show at the Palm Casino Resort in Las Vegas and will begin a new U.S. tour presented by HP on January 11th (full schedule below).

The ck Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Jeans, and Calvin Klein Underwear stores today unveiled a unique collaborative installation with artist Anthony Goicolea as the focus of each of the brands’ annual holiday window displays.

Goicolea, a Cuban American artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, is known for his complex, large-scale, realist self portraits, and his provocative work is recognized within the worlds of both art and fashion.

His latest work, commissioned by Calvin Klein, Inc. and entitled “Middle Night, a short film by Anthony Goicolea,” was inspired by traditional, early 19th century toys, snow globes, dioramas, shadow puppets, camera obscuras, kinetoscopes, and flip books, working with the basic principals of light, shadow, movement and optics.

“Middle Night” is a single channel video depicting Goicolea’s vision of white canvas tents in a snowy, wintertime scene, in which the action unfolds as the observing camera rotates in a 360 clockwise motion. Inside the tents, there are shadowy, silhouetted figures shown dancing, singing, reading, hanging stockings, and having a dinner party. As the miniature landscape spins for the camera, the silhouetted scenarios change, as do the proportions of the characters involved, becoming miniaturized or exaggerated.

The camera is fixed, but each rotation of the snow-covered wooded scene spins slightly more quickly than the last. Just like with a flip-book or a penny arcade machine, the video positions the camera and viewer in a static position while the activity provides a short vignette for the audience.

The global window installation, which was overseen by Dale Rozmiarek, Senior Vice President, Creative Services, Calvin Klein, Inc., will remain on view through the holidays at freestanding ck Calvin Klein, Calvin Klein Jeans, and Calvin Klein Underwear stores worldwide, though only select stores will feature the video installation. Goicolea’s video will also be viewable in its entirety at calvinklein.tv and at cku.com.

Goicolea made his debut in 1999 and holds an MFA in fine arts from Pratt Institute. He is represented by Postmasters Gallery in New York and Aurel Scheibler in Berlin, Germany. In addition to photography, he has also been producing and exhibiting his drawings and has published three books entitled ‘Anthony Goicolea’, ‘Drawings’, and most recently ‘Fictions’.
