Edwyn Collins – Do It Again video featuring Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy

and Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand

“sheer brilliance. #4 best album of 2010”

“A triumph. 4 stars”

2010 was a phenomenal year for indie icon Edwyn Collins. The former frontman of Scottish post-punkers Orange Juice released his seventh solo album in the UK to massive acclaim. Heralded by the British press as one of the best releases of the year, Losing Sleep will arrive on US shores March 22nd via Heavenly Recordings/Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records. The record features tracks co-written with Johnny Marr, Roddy Frame, Alex Kapranos & Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand, Romeo Stodart of The Magic Numbers, Ryan Jarman of The Cribs and TheDrums and is the first album Edwyn’s written and recorded since his serious illness in 2005.

Edwyn has released a video for Losing Sleep track “Do It Again” (featuring Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand). If you didn’t catch the premiere on Pitchfork, click HERE to watch it and please feel free to post and share!

In 2005 Edwyn suffered a pair of life-threatening cerebral hemorrhages. Incredibly, by October 2007 he was back on stage and then in the middle of a November night in 2008, the urge to write songs, which had deserted Edwyn since his illness, made an abrupt return. It happened just that suddenly, to Edwyn’s joy. Nowadays, he’s back to thinking about songs all the time, just as he used to before 2005.

Losing Sleepwas recorded at Edwyn’s own West Heath Studios between November 2008 and May 2010 and produced by Edwyn and Sebastian Lewsley. The pair have worked together since 1993 and more recently stood shoulder to shoulder as Edwyn has regained his studio skills. The album also features Edwyn’s regular cast of band members – Paul Cook, Dave Ruffy, Carwyn Ellis, Sean Read, Barrie Cadogan, Andy Hackett, Luca Santucci and William Collins.

Edwyn is planning a US tour as well, with details to be announced shortly.

PEPPER, the comical and funky clown princes of “aloha” inspired dub-rock, originally from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii will debut online their first 3-D music video for their new single, “Drunk Girl” on Tuesday, Dec. 21st, 2010. The video will premiere globally on Pepper’s official website and be available for purchase on iTunes. This video is a first-of-its-kind “live-concert” debut into the 3-D marketplace for an independent band of this stature without a major label budget.

“Drunk Girl” will be viewable on ANY computer with PEPPER’s red and blue 3-D glasses (anaglyph format) and on 3-D laptops, desktops, and TVs that utilize the passive-polarized and electronic shutter-glasses technology. In addition to YouTube 3-D, the video will air on new 3-D mobile devices and elsewhere in a 2-D version. Fans can get their hands on 3-D glasses through PEPPER’s website or use any classic paper, old school 3-D glasses.
PEPPER filmed “Drunk Girl” live on location at The Grove in Anaheim, CA on October, 15, 2010, the opening night of their current “Like A Surgeon” tour in support of their new EP Stitches featuring the track. The song has already landed rotation spins on San Francisco’s Live 105 FM, West Palm Beach’s Buzz 103 FM radio stations, and 99x in Atlanta; to name a few.

PEPPER enlisted Director Erik Spicard and Producer/Musician Lee Jaffe (Bob Marley, Barrington Levy) to create their 3-D video. Spicard, who shot and edited the video explains, “Since the band opted to use footage from one of their live shows, my crew and I created our own portable 3-D camera rigs from pairs of HD camcorders to shoot the concert guerilla-style. Our hand-held wireless rigs let us run around freely to capture the energy of the band’s performance at The Grove in Anaheim, California. ”

Spicard actually edited the video in 3-D while depth-balancing the 3-D images, displaying a seamless blend. Using new proprietary editing techniques, Spicard was able to quickly cut the video by creating high-impact 3-D looping effects between the interaction of the band and screaming fans.

PEPPER, comprised of guitarist/vocalist Kaleo Wassman, bassist/vocalist Bret Bollinger and drummer Yesod Williams, mix their Hawaiian rock “shock and awe” flare, along with their mellow island rhythms and funky sexual roots to create their own truly diverse sound. They have cultivated a relationship with die-hards around the world; fans that are all in on the inside joke of the band’s own vernacular, controversial antics and innuendos.

PEPPER has sold over half a million records independently and founded their own record label, LAW Records. Among PEPPER’s many singles, “Give it Up (Dirty Hot Sex)” has become one of KROQ’s most played and favorite re-currents, reaching #34 on the Billboard charts for 18 consecutive weeks, while the single “No Control” reached #19 off their album No Shame for four consecutive weeks. Their music has been featured in hit movies such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Good Luck Chuck and has also become a staple with MTV programming, including the hit show Living Lahaina. PEPPER’s non-stop touring has gained them a loyal following, achieving perennial faved alumni status on 311’s Unity Tour (2010, 2009), The Vans Warped Tour (2007, 2002, 2001), as well as sharing the stage recently with hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg, reggae innovators The Wailers and close friends Slightly Stoopid (Jager Music Tour 2006, Tailgate 2008); to name a few. In addition to Vans Warped Tour, PEPPER has performed at major festivals including Mile High Festival, West Beach Music Festival, Miami Sun Fest, Sunset Strip Music Fest and many others.

“Sex Is Good” Now #2 At Active Rock
New York City Performance On February 8th

New York, NY — Saving Abel have added new tour dates to their schedule continuing on with Hinder for one of the best touring packages this winter.

“All of us in Saving Abel are excited about continuing to tour with Hinder,” remarked lead singer Jared Weeks. “This whole tour is one hell of a package. So many great bands with great shows, we should make a habit outta this! Come to the show and get your faces melted off. It’s cold in January but this tour is Hot, Hot Hot!”

From the group that got everyone “Addicted” Saving Abel are riding high with another sexually charged hit with “Sex Is Good.” The song is currently sitting at #2 on the Rock charts and is continuing to climb.

The irony that the song, which is now a Top 10 hit at rock radio has become the band’s second stab at blunt sexual honestly isn’t lost on lead singer Jared Weeks.

“Every night playing live I always ask the crowd if they would be surprised if Saving Abel had wrote another song about sex, cause we all know that ‘addicted’ isn’t really a song for Sunday school. And the reaction is always a good one. ‘Sex Is Good’ is kinda of a story of a bad boy gone even worse! But the important message in the song is about the honesty. Seriously, think about how many times in our lives that we have all been those relationships where the bed room is the only ounce of excitement some of us have, thus out comes the truth! We have all said it at one point another….. That’s right, I’m not in Love but the SEX is good.”

Saving Abel’s latest album, MISS AMERICA, the quintet’s follow up to their gold-certified self-titled debut entered the Billboard album chart at #24 the week of it’s release this past summer. The lead single “Stupid Girl (Only In Hollywood)” became the band’s fourth hit at rock radio and the group performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC) on August 2nd.

The quintet continues their current world tour which has, over the past several months, touched down in India, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq (via a USO / Armed Forces Entertainment tour of the Persian Gulf), extensively across the U.S., and in the middle of the Pacific Ocean aboard the USS Carl Vinson as the vessel returned from Haiti. Saving Abel, will hit the road as direct support for Hinder beginning November 29th in Dallas, TX.

The Stray Cat Lee Rocker will join the cast of the smash Broadway hit “Million Dollar Quartet” as bassist Jay Perkins in a twelve-show run from January 21st through 31st, 2011.

The Broadway musical “Million Dollar Quartet” is inspired by the legendary recording sessions that took place Tuesday December 4, 1956 in the Sun Record Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The session was an impromptu jam among Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and additional session musicians. Rocker is set to play Carl Perkins’ brother and bass player Jay Perkins. “The story is especially close to my heart,” says Rocker, who was a close friend and musical collaborator of Carl Perkins up until his passing.

About Lee Rocker
Lee Rocker made his mark singing, playing, standing on, spinning and rocking his giant upright bass in the legendary music group The Stray Cats. Grammy-nominated, The Stray Cats have sold nearly 10 million albums and garnered an astounding 23 gold and platinum certified records worldwide. Founded by Rocker, Brian Setzer, and Slim Jim Phantom, The Stray Cats remain a radio staple, were music video pioneers at the infancy of MTV, and repeatedly brought rockabilly to the top of the charts.

About “Million Dollar Quartet”
Inspired by the actual event, “Million Dollar Quartet” features a treasure trove of the greatest rock and roll, gospel, R&B and country hits from these musicians, including such iconic songs as “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Who Do You Love?,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Riders in the Sky,” “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.” “Million Dollar Quartet”captures the infectious spirit, freewheeling excitement and thrilling sounds of a singular moment when four of the music industry’s most extraordinary talents, all in their creative prime, came together for one of the most memorable nights in music history.

On December 4, 1956, an auspicious twist of fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley together. The place was Sun Records’ storefront studio in Memphis. The man who made it happen was Sam Phillips, the “Father of Rock and Roll,” who discovered them all. The four young musicians united for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has come to be known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time.

Kasey Anderson & The Honkies’ celebrate release of “Heart of a Dog”

On February 15, 2011, Seattle and Portland-based Kasey Anderson & The Honkies will celebrate the release of their latest full-length, “Heart of a Dog” (Red River Records).

Comprised of Kasey Anderson (vocals, guitar, percussion), Andrew KcKeag (guitar, vocals), Eric Corson (bass), and Mike Musburger (drums), Kasey Anderson & The Honkies bring a wealth of a “who’s who” of Northwest rock to their latest offering. McKeag has spent time in Presidents of the United States of America and The Long Witers, Corson in The Long Winters and, of course, Musburger from The Fastbacks, Young Fresh Fellows, The Posies, The Supersuckers, and countless other cult Seattle power-pop and indie-rock bands.

“Heart of a Dog,” which was produced by Kasey Anderson and The Honkies and Jordan Richter features guest appearances by The Decemberists’ Jenny Conlee (accordion), Richmond Fontaine’s Dave Harding (bass), and several other friends and fellow NW musicians.

With all this going for it, it is no surprise that “Heart of a Dog” has allowed Anderson to move beyond the “roots-rock” or “alt. country” tags he’s previously been welcomed with, and make the rock record he’s envisioned for quite some time.

³I was tired of playing solo shows and I was even more tired of the words Œroots rock,¹² Anderson says by way of explanation. ³I just wanted to make a rock ‘n’ roll record.²

Comprised of ten tracks that cannot be mistaken for anything other than rock ‘n’ roll, from the sinister riff of the album¹s opening track, ³The Wrong Light,² to the barroom piano of the plaintive closer, ³For Anyone,² “Heart of a Dog” captures an energy that Anderson insists can come only when ³everybody¹s in the same room, at the same time.²

To further ensure that each song carried its own immediacy, Anderson who made his first foray into the producer¹s chair on “Heart of a Dog” refused to play guitar while tracking with his band. ³The natural tendency of any Œbacking band¹ is to follow the lead of the guy who wrote the songs, especially when he¹s got a guitar,² Anderson says. ³I wanted to let the band dictate the groves.”

McKeag, a veteran of the Seattle music scene for nearly two decades (with service in The Supersuckers, The Long Winters, and Presidents of the USA to his credit), handles the responsibility ably, filling “Heart of a Dog” with an impressive array of guitar work, from the Stonesy swagger of ³Mercy² to the bluesy, Waitsian stomp of ³Revisionist History Blues.² Even the album¹s more somber material ³Your Side of Town² and ³My Blues, My Love² feature sprawling, atmospheric guitar. “Heart of a Dog” bears the same beautifully literate lyricism that has become a hallmark of Anderson¹s work but, in allowing room for McKeag and The Honkies to shine, Anderson has opened up sonic possibilities left unexplored on his previous albums.

Once the band had finished tracking, Anderson invited friends by the studio to, as he says, ³play whatever they wanted so long as it was interesting.² Ralph Huntley (Richmond Fontaine), Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists), Garth Klippert (Old Light), Lewi Longmire (Blue Giant), and David Lipkind (I Can Lick Any SOB in the House) all dropped in, leaving Anderson with ³more good noise than [he] knew what to do with.²

As Anderson and co-producer/engineer Jordan Richter sorted through all of the ³good noise,² they found one very interesting common thread: laughter. ³There was somebody laughing at the end of every take, no matter how good or bad,² Anderson says. ³Not nervous or embarrassed laughter. Excited laughter; people having fun. We left some of it in. If people listen to this record as loud as I want them to, they¹ll hear it.²

Now, it’s time for the band to bring the show on the road. Anderson, relieved he won’t have to tour solo acoustic in support of this album, looks forward to rocking the stages of theaters and dive bars alike across the U.S. – and Europe.
