“Arnalds’ boldest and most ambitious take on the form he’s pursued so single-mindedly– the robust yet ethereal, mid-tempo tearjerker– ‘…and they have escaped the weight of darkness’ is a success for the composer.” – (7.0) Pitchfork
Icelandic neo-classical artist Ólafur Arnalds has announced his return to North America for a series of tour dates in early 2011. This comes shortly after his international tour this past year in support of …and they have escaped the weight of darkness – Ólafur’s acclaimed second full-length album, available now on Erased Tapes (Peter Broderick, Nils Frahm).
The 23-year-old composer’s North American tour will feature Ólafur Arnalds’ beguiling electronic chamber pop and classical compositions, and a string section framed by a visually enchanting light show and visuals.
Between international shows, Ólafur also spent this year working on the OST’s of two films – Blinky TM starring Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are) and the Icelandic film Jitters (entitled (Órói in Icelandic).
To celebrate his return to the US, Ólafur has also set up a contest so that every fan that “shares” a show via his website can then enter to win a chance to win tickets to that particular show!
Get a glimpse of what’s in store for American audiences by watching Ólafur perform “Ljósið” as part of a special KEXP Session live from his apartment in Reykjavik during Iceland Airwaves 2010.
