“We love her music! We love her style! We love her!” – Perez Hilton

This fall has been quite the whirlwind for burgeoning Cherrytree artist Natalia Kills; the reigning Queen of dark pop and all things debaucherous as of late. Having completed her first national tour in the US with Robyn this week, her live performances received rave reviews from critics across the board as she performed exclusive material from her forthcoming album to US audiences far and wide. ‘Perfectionist’ is due March 2011.

Ms. Kills also recently completed her (soon-to-be unveiled) video for her current single ‘Mirrors’ produced by Akon and Martin “Cherry Cherry Boom Boom” Kierszenbaum. The scenes and concept behind the video for this killer hit is the brainchild of Natalia Kills herself. Always keen to explore some of the demons that may drive/distract the perfectionist within us all: “Love, Sex, Control, Vanity,” – are all re-occuring themes Natalia covers throughout ‘Perfectionist’. Money, Death, & Revenge are also touched upon as Natalia shows a vulnerable side with tracks such as ‘Free’ a tongue in cheek ditty about being broke (penned by Kills when she was waiting tables having made the jump from London to Los Angeles) and ‘Heaven’ the touching ballad written for her grandpa who helped raise her as a child.

Between touring with Kelis and Robyn, and performing at this years CMJ Festival, Natalia also collaborated with British electro-pop musician and producer Frankmusik in the studio for a new track to be included on Frankmusik’s new album expected to drop Spring ’11.

ANBERLIN LAUNCHES CO-HEADLINING TOUR WITH CIRCA SURVIVE ON JANUARY 14th IN RICHMOND, VA FOXY SHAZAM WILL OPEN LEAD SINGLE “IMPOSSIBLE,” A TOP 5 HIT AT ALTERNATIVE, GOES TO TOP 40 AND HOT AC RADIO

ANBERLIN LAUNCHES CO-HEADLINING TOUR WITH CIRCA SURVIVE ON JANUARY 14th IN RICHMOND, VA FOXY SHAZAM WILL OPEN LEAD SINGLE “IMPOSSIBLE,” A TOP 5 HIT AT ALTERNATIVE, GOES TO TOP 40 AND HOT AC RADIO

Anberlin will launch a co-headlining tour with Circa Survive on January 14, 2011 with a show at The National in Richmond, VA. The outing will also feature special guest Foxy Shazam. (See below for full tour itinerary.) Anberlin, which will play a series of radio shows this month, will tour Australia and the Philippines after its U.S. dates with Circa Survive and Foxy Shazam.

The band just wrapped up a headlining tour in support of its new album, Dark Is The Way, Light is a Place, which debuted at No. 9 on The Billboard 200. “In the center of it all is [Stephen] Christian, bounding across the stage with a commanding presence that’s impossible to ignore,” said Alternative Press, which headed to New Orleans for the tour’s launch and profiled Anberlin in a nine-page cover story for its December issue. “Onstage, he’s a veritable ball of energy, a true showman.” “Anberlin put on a great live performance!” raved Examiner.com while AlterThePress.com called the band’s performance “a joy to behold.”

Dark Is The Way, Light is a Place is the Universal Republic rockers’ highest charting album to date. Lead single “Impossible,” a Top 5 hit at the Alternative format, is now crossing over to Top 40 and Hot AC radio. USA Today named “Impossible” the “pick of the week,” calling it “insistent, insinuating…hard to resist.” “From the first note that ripples through ‘Impossible,’ Anberlin hooks the listener,” said Billboard. The accompanying video – directed by Endeavor Media, who worked with Anberlin on the clip for “Feel Good Drag” – premiered on MTV2 and in rotation at Fuse, mtvU and Much More. “Closer,” the band’s next single, will go to Alternative radio in early January.

You can check out Anberlin performing “Impossible” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” at:

USA Today praised the new album’s “poetry and friction” in a three-star review, noting: “Lyrically and musically, these tunes bristle with relational tension that doesn’t easily resolve. Producer Brendan O’Brien makes the anthems arena-ready without taking off their edge.” Dark Is The Way, Light is a Place was hailed as “moody modern rock” by Alternative Press, which awarded it four stars, adding: “the band allow Stephen Christian’s strong lyricism and impassioned vocals to take center stage to deliver some of his finest performances yet. There’s an emotional weight in his work, and that often speaks louder than any wall of distortion could.” Q gave the record four stars and Kerrang said: “Dark is the Way gets it right….sterling vocals, the light ahead looks brighter than ever.”

Formed in Winter Haven, FL in 2002, Anberlin has sold over 700,000 albums in its career and toured the world, sharing stages with American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Paramore and many others. “Feel Good Drag,” the No. 1 single from Anberlin’s 2008 breakthrough album, New Surrender, ranks as the longest-charting single in Modern Rock history.

The band has been involved in numerous humanitarian efforts and lead vocalist Stephen Christian is a co-founder of Faceless International, an organization that defends exploited people worldwide.

DIANE BIRCH, THE PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND REVISIT ‘THE VELVETEEN AGE’ (DEC 7/S-CURVE RECORDS), COVERING JOY DIVISION, THE CURE, SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES AND MORE

DIANE BIRCH, THE PHENOMENAL HANDCLAP BAND REVISIT ‘THE VELVETEEN AGE’ (DEC 7/S-CURVE RECORDS), COVERING JOY DIVISION, THE CURE, SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES AND MORE

Listen to “This Corrosion” by Diane Birch w/The Phenomenal Handclap Band

“Downright thrilling” (HuffPo) breakout singer/songwriter Diane Birch has teamed with fellow New Yorkers and “astronauts of progressive soul” (Guardian UK) the Phenomenal Handclap Band to record ‘The Velveteen Age,’ a seven-track covers collection set for December 7 release on S-Curve Records. Revisiting the soundtrack to her musical efflorescence, Birch puts her own seductive spin on songs by The Cure, Joy Division, Siouxsie & the Banshees and others. ‘The Velveteen Age’ was produced by S-Curve’s Steve Greenberg and Phenomenal Handclap Band’s Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand, and mixed by Steve Greenwell. Birch contributed arrangements with Collas and Marquand, and played all keyboards.

“During my teenage years as a Goth these songs were amongst my nearest and dearest,” says Birch, who appears in one of her vintage Victorian wedding dresses at age 16 in the photo on the EP cover. “Sitting in my bedroom with my headphones pressed into my ears till they hurt, each song gave me a weird kind of hope for my future. I would have never imagined I would get a chance to record them one day, let alone with some of my closest friends.”

The daughter of a conservative pastor, Birch was only allowed to listen to church hymns growing up. She rebelled as a young teen by embracing Goth culture, attending her father’s services in a floor-length black cape and vintage wedding dress, and listening to bands like Sisters of Mercy, Peter Murphy, and Echo & The Bunnymen. On ‘The Velveteen Age,’ Birch covers these and other artists with affection, exultation and a wicked backbeat courtesy of the members of the Phenomenal Handclap Band.

‘The Velveteen Age’ was recorded in Brooklyn, between songwriting sessions for Diane’s next album of original material. It follows her extraordinary debut album ‘Bible Belt’ (S-Curve/2009), which opened in the Billboard Top 100 and earned glowing reviews from The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and more. Birch toured extensively and made numerous television appearances supporting ‘Bible Belt,’ including The Today Show, Letterman, and Ellen.

‘THE VELVETEEN’ AGE TRACKLIST:
This Corrosion (Sisters of Mercy)
Kiss Them For Me (Siouxsie & The Banshees)
Bring On The Dancing Horses (Echo & The Bunnymen)
Atmosphere (Joy Division)
Primary (The Cure)

AND THIS BIRD CAN SING: MASSACHUSETTS-BASED TRIO BIRDSONG AT MORNING GIVE FLIGHT TO BEAUTIFULLY PACKAGED BOX SET OF ELEGANTLY CRAFTED MUSIC – ANNALS OF MY GLASS HOUSE SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 2011 RELEASE

What do a university professor, vice president of operations of a gourmet tea company and a sound engineer turned new media consultant have in common? No, this is not the start of a rabbi/priest/minister gag.

Massachusetts-based trio Birdsong At Morning are comprised of a trio of musicians who also have branched out into the aforementioned career paths. The band’s relationships with each other stretch back decades. The core group is Alan Williams, Darleen Wilson and Greg Porter. Williams is the lead vocalist as well as the aforementioned professor, teaching at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell while Wilson has her own consulting business after a successful engineering career in the Boston music scene and as the original director of new media at NPR station WGBH. Porter’s day gig is running operations at Tea Forté.

Life became very busy for Alan, Darleen and Greg and yet… music-making called. At first softly, but gradually building into an undeniable urge. Despite responsibilities and obligations, Alan, Greg, and Darleen are now making music a centerpiece of their lives, enjoying forays into the clubs and onto radio. This is music by adults, about being adults. Ambitious, refined, insightful, patient, and often heartbreakingly beautiful, Birdsong At Morning is a singular experience waiting to be had, a happy ending in progress. 25 songs, 4 CDs, 2 hours of music, a deluxe booklet of lyrics, photos, and essays – chapters and verses – Annals of My Glass House.

Truth, beauty and grace are the commonality as these three unite to form elegant soundscapes.

The Joy Formidable to Release New Album ‘The Big Roar’ March 15 through Canvasback/Atlantic Records

The Joy Formidable to Release New Album ‘The Big Roar’ March 15 through Canvasback/Atlantic Records

Barely over a year after playing their first ever American shows, Welsh rock trio The Joy Formidable will release their debut album, The Big Roar, March 15th on Canvasback/Atlantic.

After self-releasing their eight-track A Balloon Called Moaning EP at home last February, The Joy Formidable spent 2009 touring the U.K., Europe and Australia with bands including Editors, Temper Trap and Passion Pit, mastering tiny clubs and festival stages alike. Along the way, they earned critical raves from NME, The Guardian, the London Times, Spin and Pitchfork, and praise from Garbage’s Shirley Manson and Courtney Love, among others.

In late April, The Joy Formidable teamed with a new label started by Passion Pit’s Ayad Al Adhamy, Black Bell Records, to release A Balloon Called Moaning in the U.S. The New York Times’ Jon Pareles praised the EP’s “cryptic lyrics that glint with urgency,” and said that “the music regenerates the turbulent haze of 1990s rock, but it’s less tormented and more anthemic, confident of the pop structures at its core.” Praising the band’s energetic live show in a recent review, The Village Voice noted “[The Joy Formidable] is a band that knows how to wring just the right amount of intensity from minimal ingredients.”

When they weren’t on the road, the band worked on writing and tracking the material for The Big Roar. “We recorded in a tiny corner of our London bedroom,” says guitarist and lead singer Ritzy Bryan. “It was great, because you could capture that moment when you wake up in the middle of the night with a melody or an image or a lyric.” Working on and off for a year, the trio — Bryan, bassist Rhydian Dafydd and drummer Matthew Thomas — crafted a remarkable collection of modern rock songs that explore what Bryan describes as “the possibility of victory in a hopeless situation.” Adds Dafydd: “The album covers a lot of emotional range. It’s captured the battle between the eternal optimist and the manic depressive.”

The band produced The Big Roar themselves, with help from engineer Neak Menter. They traveled to Los Angeles in summer of 2010 to mix it with Rich Costey (Muse, Foo Fighters, Glasvegas) who also produced new recordings of fan favorites “Whirring and Austere. The album’s first single, “I Don’t Want To See You Like This,” is out now. The Village Voice called the song “one of the band’s best offerings yet, a breakup song that looks forward to the other side of heartache, with racing guitars and thundering drums that seem engineered to snap both parts of the still-attached couple out of their sad state.” These songs are joined on the The Big Roar nine other beautiful, explosive new recordings. Check out the track listing and brilliantly detailed album artwork, created by Dafydd, below:

The Big Roar Track Listing

KEREN ANN SET TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM “101” MARCH 22 ON BLUE NOTE RECORDS IN THE U.S. ACCLAIMED SINGER TO DEBUT NEW SONGS AT THREE NYC SHOWS JOE’S PUB (DEC. 8-9) & THE BELL HOUSE (DEC. 10)

KEREN ANN SET TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM “101” MARCH 22 ON BLUE NOTE RECORDS IN THE U.S. ACCLAIMED SINGER TO DEBUT NEW SONGS AT THREE NYC SHOWS JOE’S PUB (DEC. 8-9) & THE BELL HOUSE (DEC. 10)

Singer-songwriter-composer-producer-engineer Keren Ann has announced a March 22 release date for 101, her fourth album to be released on EMI’s Blue Note Records in the U.S. and her sixth solo album overall. 101 is an entirely self-produced and self-penned set of 10 new songs that presents a surprising yet entirely natural evolution of Keren Ann’s sound, as can be heard on the album’s buoyant opening track and lead single “My Name Is Trouble.”

Keren Ann will be debuting new songs from 101 when she returns to New York City next week for three special shows, including two nights at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan (December 8 & 9) and one night at The Bell House in Brooklyn (December 10). She will also be performing at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia on December 11.

# # #

Keren Ann was born in Caesaria, Israel to a Javanese-Dutch mother and Russian-Israeli father. She was raised in Paris, but now shares her time between Paris and Tel Aviv when not on the road touring. She began captivating U.S. critics and audiences in 2004 with the stateside release of Not Going Anywhere, and proved that she was here to stay with 2005’s Nolita and 2007’s Keren Ann. The Los Angeles Times has written that “her music casts a spell,” while New York magazine has observed that on repeated listens, her music “starts to feel like something that’s always been embedded within your genetic code.”

And now, almost four years after her last album, Keren Ann is back with 101. Each song is a window into a world, like the windows of the apartment building opposite James Stewart’s in Rear Window. Each picture, lit by a different light, is a painting come to life, a painting in sound and words, telling a story.

There is also a new energy, a broader range, a sense of new ground broken. The voice reaches out more, but Keren Ann retains her enigmatic quality, her intimate bond with the listener, and the vignettes still mystify as much as they illuminate. Nothing is sacrificed. Ultimately 101 embodies what Keren Ann`s music is all about: the songs, the voice, the sound.

The track listing for 101 is as follows:

1. My Name Is Trouble
2. Run With You
3. All The Beautiful Girls
4. Sugar Mama
5. She Won’t Trade It For Nothing
6. You Were On Fire
7. Blood On My Hands
8. Song From A Tour Bus
9. Strange Weather
10. 101

KEREN ANN TOUR DATES:
December 8 – Joe’s Pub – New York, NY
December 9 – Joe’s Pub – New York, NY
December 10 – The Bell House – Brooklyn, NY
December 11 – Tin Angel – Philadelphia, PA

Purchase a Physical Copy of Josh Groban’s New Album Illuminations and Gain Access to Exclusive Live-Streaming Concert Event

Fans Who Purchase a Physical CD of Illuminations Will Be Able to View an Exclusive NYC Concert and Q&A With Groban on Ustream This Thursday, December 2nd at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT

Groban to Appear on NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center Tonight Nov 30th and Rachael Ray on December 13th

Josh Groban’s exclusive concert and Q&A that comes included with the physical album package of his recently released Illuminations will take place on December 2nd at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. Early registration has now begun! Fans with codes can go stake their place in line for this online event at http://www.ustream.tv/joshgroban.

How it works: Fans who purchase the Illuminations CD, which was released by 143/Reprise Records on November 15th, will have received a sticker on the album that includes a special code that is needed to view the live stream of this special one-time-only event. This is the first time an artist has offered consumers the opportunity to watch an intimate online performance of the songs on the album they have just bought and is Groban’s way of giving his devoted fans more value for their purchase.

In TV news, Groban will perform during NBC’s annual special Christmas in Rockefeller Center — a star-studded, live broadcast from Rockefeller Center in New York City that celebrates the lighting of the world’s most famous Christmas tree. The show airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT. He will also appear on Rachael Ray on Monday, December 13th. Groban recently appeared on Oprah’s “Ultimate Favorite Things” Episode. Watch him perform a track from Illuminations, “Higher Window,” on the show here: LINK

Groban displays both artistic and personal growth on Illuminations — the rewarding result of the unexpected teaming with veteran producer Rick Rubin, known for his iconic work with Metallica, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and the Dixie Chicks, among many others. The unprecedented partnership saw both Groban and Rubin stepping out of their respective zones to come together and create an entirely new zone where art meets intimacy and immediacy meets timelessness. Most importantly, Groban — who ranks as Billboard Magazine’s 14th top-selling artist of the 2000s with more than 20 million units in the U.S. alone — expressed himself at his fullest by tapping into a new range of expression and emotional connection with lyrics drawn straight from the heart. In its review, USA Today raved: “Illuminations yields glowing music. Sturdy, deeply personal statements, brimming with poignancy.” The New York Times has also praised the album, saying it “showcases Mr. Groban’s songwriting” and “reflects the conviction that gallantry can also be pensive and uncertain.”

The 29-year-old Los Angeles native first broke through in 2001 with his self-titled 5x-platinum self-titled debut, followed by 2003’s 5x-platinum Closer and 2006’s 2x-platinum Awake. In 2007, Groban became the best-selling recording artist of the year thanks to sales of Awake and his blockbuster 5x-platinum Christmas album, Noël, which spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart. Groban and his recordings have been nominated for more than a dozen awards including an American Music Award, a World Music Award, a Juno Award, two Grammy Awards, and an Academy Award for “Believe” from the 2005 film Polar Express. He has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide.

Gasoline Rainbows, a Compilation Featuring Music by Phoenix, The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, and more, available now

Gasoline Rainbows, a Compilation Featuring Music by Phoenix, The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, and more, available now!

Proceeds to go to Global Green to Benefit Communities Affected by Gulf Oil Spill

Compilation Brought To Life By Actress Sophia Bush and Actor Austin Nichols

Includes Brand New Material from Damien Rice, Amy Kuney, and City and Colour

When it comes to providing help to those in need, you can always count on musicians to do their part. To help communities impacted by the recent Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, some of today’s hottest bands have joined together with Global Green USA to release a benefit compilation entitled Gasoline Rainbows, out todaythrough Roark Records. Gasoline Rainbows is available exclusively via iTunes as a digital download.

The compilation was brought together by actress Sophia Bush and actor Austin Nichols, most well known for their roles on the television show One Tree Hill. Sophia and Austin travelled, with Global Green, to Grand Isle, Louisiana, to visit the beaches and see the devastation wrought by the Deepwater Horizon spill first hand. Moved by the stretches of oil along the once-beautiful beaches, as well as the devastation to the wildlife, they decided to help in whatever way they could, and this compilation is a direct result of that.

100% of the artist and label proceeds from Gasoline Rainbows will be used for Global Green’s oil spill response to directly assist the communities, people, and ecosystems impacted by the BP Oil Spill, educate the public, push for more regulation (to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again) and advocate for a greener, cleaner economy.

Gasoline Rainbows includes material by some of the most popular names in music, alongside new up-and-coming talents. The compilation includes music by LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, amongst others.

Not only does the compilation feature incredible tracks by the aforementioned artists, but it alsol contains three brand new, previously unreleased tracks as well. Singer-songwriters Amy Kuney, Damien Rice and City and Colour will all be providing never before heard material for the compilation.

These new tracks are available for streaming from the Gasoline Rainbows myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/gasolinerainbowsbenefit
