Architecture in Helsinki to Release Moment Bends May 3rd on Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records US Tour Kicks Off in June

You may not have expected it, but the first great modernist pop album of 2011 is here… Four years on from their last album, Architecture In Helsinki return with the hook-laden, magnetic and lush Moment Bends (out May 3rd on Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records). It sounds like the record they’ve waited their whole lives to make, retaining the fizzing immediacy of its three predecessors and re-molding with a more sophisticated touch.

In large parts, Moment Bends is in dialogue with the dance floor, without being a slave to any particular rhythm. So, imagine a sound equal parts Italia ‘82, California ‘79, and Melbourne 2011, glued together with a dynamic bounce and a compelling romanticism.

Recorded over a 2 year period in the band’s studio space, Buckingham Palace, Songwriter Cameron Bird says: “Moment Bends was all about being at one with our ideas, obsessed with popular music and falling in love with our hometown. We wanted to build a record to get lost in. A record that always feels exactly what you are feeling”.

The band enlisted long-time friend and collaborator Francois Tetaz to guide them through the record making process, in a “Spiritual healing / co-production / mixing role”. The result speaks for itself. With it’s effortless mix of the ambiguous and the familiar, not to mention it’s 11 killer songs, Moment Bends might just be your new favorite record. Architecture In Helsinki will be touring Europe, Australia, and North America – with US dates scheduled for June.

New York, NY — Las Vegas-based rock band Adelitas Way will release their second album, entitled Home School Valedictorian, on May 17th on Virgin Records. The band, which is vocalist Rick DeJesus, guitarist Keith Wallen, bassist Derek Johnston, and drummer Trevor Stafford, have been in the studio in Los Angeles with producer Dave Bassett (Shinedown) recording since September of last year.

Home School Valedictorian is the follow-up to Adelitas Way’s self-titled debut album, which AllMusic said “sizzles with rage, sex, and regret … the band kicks up enough noise to satisfy even the most dogmatic hard rock junkie.” Released by Virgin Records in July 2009, the album spawned the hit single “Invincible,” which climbed to No. 6 on the Active Rock chart. “Invincible” was also heard in promos for CSI Miami, included on the soundtrack to WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010, and was the official theme song of WWE Superstars.

Adelitas Way will hit the road for a spring tour with Sick Puppies in March. Please see below for all confirmed tour dates. The band has previously toured with Halestorm, Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Shinedown, 10 Years, Breaking Benjamin, Chris Cornell, Hinder, Theory of A Deadman, and Tantric, honing their reputation as a powerful live act. They also performed at Rock on the Range in both 2009 and 2010.

Recently, Adelitas Way performed at Patriot Place before the Jets vs. Patriots game on January 16th. Watch a clip of the band touring the stadium here:

“sheer brilliance. #4 best album of 2010”

“A triumph. 4 stars”

On the heels of announcing the US release date of his new album, Losing Sleep, indie music icon Edwyn Collins has revealed his long-awaited return to Stateside shores for some live dates. Shortly after the album hits stores (March 8th; Heavenly Recordings/Cooperative Music USA/Downtown Records), he’ll be stopping by New York and SXSW. Edwyn’s last American shows were acoustic shows in 2003, and he hasn’t performed any with a full live band since 1997.

2010 was a phenomenal year for Edwyn. The former frontman of Scottish post-punkers Orange Juice released his seventh solo album in the UK to massive acclaim, and it ended up being one of the year’s best reviewed albums by the British press. The record features tracks co-written with Johnny Marr, Roddy Frame, Alex Kapranos & Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand, Romeo Stodart of The Magic Numbers, Ryan Jarman of The Cribs, and The Drums – and is the first album Edwyn’s written and recorded since his serious illness in 2005.

Now, Now – new tour dates and “Giants” mp3 news

Their current run of dates, which now extends through the end of March, are in support of their recently released EP Neighbors. Extended tour dates below.

The follow up to their critically acclaimed full-length debut Cars, Neighbors has been met with a warm response for what Filter described as “guitar-laced, and anthematic tunes that seem to blast out your speakers.” Already fans, Spin took kindly to the progress made within the bands songwriting, nothing that “the bands new tunes sound more refined, simpler, and more confident.” That seems to be common refrain as Pop Wreckoning also notes that “if anything they’ve grown stronger with their new EP Neighbors.”

The Belle Brigade Announce Spring Tour Dates Supporting Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and G. Love

The Belle Brigade Announce Spring Tour Dates Supporting Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and G. Love and Special Sauce Los Angeles-Based Sibling Duo Are Touring in Support of Their Upcoming Self-Titled Debut Album, Due April 19th on Reprise Records

“Losers” Will Be Available From All Digital Retailers Beginning February 1st

Fresh off their well-attended month-long residency at Club Spaceland in Silverlake, Los Angeles band The Belle Brigade, fronted by siblings Barbara and Ethan Gruska, will hit the road for a series of spring U.S. tour dates in support of their upcoming self-titled debut album, which will be released by Reprise Records on April 19th, 2011. The band’s single “Losers” will be available from all digital retailers beginning February 1st.

The duo, backed by their talented band (bassist Keith Karmen, keyboardist Aaron Arntz, electric guitarist Harlan Silverman, and drummer Mike Green), will open four shows for Grace Potter and the Nocturnals in February and March, followed by a series of dates opening for G. Love and Special Sauce in April. Please see below for all confirmed dates. The band will also perform at this year’s SXSW Festival in Austin, TX, March 16th through the 19th.

Inspired by Barbara and Ethan’s love for Fleetwood Mac, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder, The Belle Brigade’s debut album is chock-full of artfully arranged, freewheeling songs brimming with breezy, California melodies and bracing pop harmonies, fueled by the driving rhythms Barbara plays on drums. A longtime fixture on the Los Angeles music scene, Barbara is a sought-after live drummer who toured with Inara George and Jenny Lewis, among others, before she picked up a guitar and formed the band with her singer-songwriter younger brother Ethan two years ago. Raised in a musical family (their father is songwriter/composer Jay Gruska and their maternal grandfather is renowned film composer John Williams), Barbara and Ethan have a strong familial chemistry, which, along with their obvious songwriting gifts, has resulted in one of the most thrilling debut albums of the year.

The Belle Brigade have recently attracted notable critical praise for their live shows, as well as the first two songs released off the album, “Sweet Louise,” (available here:, which was a Top Tune on KCRW’s website on January 24th, and “Losers,” which is available as a 7″ vinyl single here: They were also featured as one of the Los Angeles Times’ “Faces to Watch” picks for 2011. Times critic Ann Powers raved: “The Belle Brigade, Barbara Gruska’s band with kid brother Ethan, shows off her big memorable voice and considerable charisma within songs that gleam with hooks and pour over with earnest emotion. … Its misfits anthem ‘Losers’ could be a Top 10 hit.”

Sidi Touré’s Sahel Folk Out Now On Thrill Jockey; Watch Videos of Sidi & Friends

Malian singer & guitarist, Sidi Touré, is receiving rave reviews for his debut Thrill Jockey release, Sahel Folk, including being prominently featured in this past Sunday’s New York Times article on independent record labels’ embracing and exploring African sounds. Released last week, Sahel Folk features duets between Sidi and one friend chronicled in a live “field-recording” style at Sidi’s sister’s house. Each recording was done through a very specific two-day process — on the first day, the friends would meet, play, and choose a song over a glass of tea. On the second day, they would record the song, allowing themselves just two takes to retain the spontaneity of the recording and reunion. The simplicity of each recording highlights the beauty of the songs and the skill of the players. Take, for instance, the below videos. The first shows Sidi with Jiba Touré performing album track, “Adema,” where Jiba teaches Sidi how to play the song before they play. (Jiba passed away after they recorded the album, and the record is dedicated to him.) The second video, which was premiered on last week, shows Sidi and Douma Maiga, a virtuoso of the three-stringed guitar known as the kurbu, playing a traditional song part of Songhai folklore.

Sidi Touré and Jiba Touré perform “Adema”

Sidi Touré and Douma Maiga

“Sidi Touré’s second album is an intimate gem of bone-dry acoustic Afro-minimalism” – Richard Gehr, SPIN
“After a few listens of [Sidi Touré’s] Sahel Folk my affection for Mali grew even more. . . Performing a very loose, refined style called songhaï blues, the repetitious nature of his guitar quickly leaves one entranced. . . With a surge of African artists making their presence known in modern America, expect Sidi to soon catapult into that list.” – Derek Beres, Huffington Post
“. . . brims with hushed, thoughtful vocals and, of course, that shimmering waterfall of Malian guitar. In short, it’s absolutely gorgeous stuff.” – Rachel Devitt, Rhapsody’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2011: World/Latin
“Mali seems to have room for another star Touré.” – Davis Inman,
“Sidi Touré was never supposed to make music. His family, Malian nobility, disapproved of his singing as a child, and his brother often broke the guitars he made from found materials. He persisted, though, developing a repertoire and approach on his instrument that stretch the folk music of his homeland into something new.” — Joe Tangari, Downbeat
“it captures not only a wide variety of textures, moods and voices, but also the musicians’ comfortable — and nonetheless passionate — virtuosity and elegance of expression.” – Kevin Macneil Brown, Dusted
“The music is full of taut contradictions, disciplined rhythms and wild flights of fancy, deep serenity and palpable longing, the heat of rapid picking alongside unhurried, contemplative cool. . . One of the real conundrums of this disc is how anything that sounds this warm and casual and relaxed could also be so exacting.” – Jennifer Kelly, Blurt
“Anyone who appreciates the soft, intricate lull of a well-played guitar should invest in Sidi Touré’s oeuvre, including his latest, Sahel Folk. . . . the cross-cultural evocative power of Touré’s music is clear from note one. The musical motifs he generates with his often-double-tracked guitar are solid and bold, as if carved from strong wood, and offer a stirring take on song dynamics.” — Loren Poin, FILTER
