Band Playing First NYC Shows

Paris-based, lo-fi surf rockers La Femme have released the official video for “Sur La Planche” off their debut EP, Le Podium#1: La Femme (Third Side Records). Directed by George Trimm, the stunning video is a surf film filtered through the darkness of film noir, with California surfer/artist Danica Elbertse staring as the femme fatale. Watch the video HERE (feel free to post and share). La Femme is also continuing their U.S. tour this month with shows in New York with shows with Crystal Stilts, Beach Fossils, CREEP, and Alex English. See the band’s full New York dates below.

Listening to Le Podium#1: La Femme, the music takes many shapes, none of which are completely in focus. “Sur La Planche” (“On the Board”) hurls down gigantic waves of surf guitar with ease and style. Download the track HERE. “Françoise” is a faceless sonic sensation, while “La Femme Ressort” (“The Woman Emerges”) is a snapshot of a rainy Paris side street. The band is at its most driving with “Telegraphe,” a French new-wave rave up, filtered through The Ventures’ back catalog. All in all, Le Podium#1 walks the line between erotic avant-pop and lo-fi surf rock, creating a record that’s at turns flippantly light-hearted or aggressively dark.
