Amor de Días, which consists of Alasdair MacLean, frontman for UK group The Clientele, and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of indie-pop duo Pipas, are proud to announce the release of their debut album, Street of the Love of Days on Merge Records. In support of the album they have released the track “Bunhill Fields”. Spanish for “Love of Days,” Amor de Días is the joined effort of two friends who share congruent musical and artistic tastes. Street of the Love of Days has been in the works for three years and will finally be released on May 17th.
The creation of Amor de Días was a natural step in Alasdair and Lupe’s musical collaborations. Frequently appearing onstage together, Lupe would recite the story book lyrics of the Clientele song “Losing Haringey.” Written between Spain and the UK, the album received its name from a Madrid street sign Alasdair mistakenly translated as “Street of the Love of Days.”
With the help of nearby friend Louis Philippe, visiting musicians Damon and Naomi, Gary Olson (Ladybug Transistor), Danny Manners, and Howard Monk (whose played drums on several Clientele songs), the LP took form with intelligent arrangements, vocal harmonies, strings, recorders and bass. Dual Spanish guitars drive the chamber-pop album as the beautiful harmonies convey the two’s shared inspirations of surrealistic literature, myths and Madrid.
