Portuguese psych-pop group The Gift released their new album Explode in their native country in March, which immediately went to #1 on the Portuguese sales charts, and stayed there for two weeks (it’s still hanging tough at #2!). The band celebrated its release with five hometown album release shows at Lisbon’s historic Tivoli Theatre, where they filmed the gorgeous new video for their new track, “My Sun.”
The Gift may be a new to some, but many already know the psychedelic synth-pop group. The band has been together since 1994, and they toured the U.S. with The Flaming Lips in 2003. This year they return to the United States, bringing us their amazing new album, Explode, which was produced by Ken Nelson (Coldplay, Gomez, Paolo Nutini). The album will see a U.S. release this summer, keep an eye out for more details soon!
Considering that they’re one of the top-selling artists in Portugal (and Europe!), the band is incredibly DIY. They manage themselves, finance their own recordings, and produce some of the most visually-stunning live shows around. They even took home an MTV Europe award in 2005 for Best Portuguese Act!
