The War On Drugs Tour Midwest & East Coast In Support of Slave Ambient, out 8/16 on Secretly Canadian

Philadelphia’s The War On Drugs are releasing their excellent sophomore album, Slave Ambient, on August 16th on Secretly Canadian. Slave Ambient is a brilliant 47-minute sprawl of rock ‘n’ roll – every song instantly identifiable; a latticework of ideas and energies building into mile-high rock anthems.

The War On Drugs will be touring extensively in support of this new album, at times re-creating and at times re-interpreting the fuzz-fueled awesomeness of Slave Ambient. For anyone who recently caught them supporting Destroyer in the states, or across the globe the last few years, you know what I’m talking about. For everyone else, now’s the time to find out! Catch The War On Drugs on their first run of dates right after Slave Ambient’s release. More dates to be announced in the coming weeks!

“On ‘Baby Missiles,’ lead-off track to the project’s second LP, Granduciel’s knack for writing songs that really mooooove has only sharpened with time. Because once it warms up, it really flies. Sheets of fleet-footed acoustic guitar are strummed to a blur. Synths whir. A piano purrs. Granduciel hoots and hollers out bus windows. But, above all else, this song’s backbone is the kind of drumbeat that begs to be tapped out on a steering wheel.” – Pitchfork

“at once driving and laid back. Not sure how they manage to do both, maybe it’s the wall of sound approach, or the piano that rises and falls in the background at the tail-end of the song, or maybe it’s just the haze that blankets this and every War on Drugs song.” –

“We Can’t Stop Listening To The War On Drugs’ ‘Baby Missiles’ And Our Life Is More Livable For It . . . the way it is able paint the day with an optimistic hue has been exceptionally impressive.” – Philadelphia Weekly’s Make Major Moves

“steeped in psychedelia, classic rock and stoner jams that has an amazing depth of musicality and excellent songwriting.” –’s “My Morning Download”
