Weekend” MP3

Rapprocher–out October 18 on Carpark Records (Dan Deacon, Beach House, Toro Y Moi)–is an 11-song journey through the push and pull of a tumultuous love affair. Class Actress creative voice and frontwoman Elizabeth Harper describes “Weekend” as “…the track where the love affair is hitting its stride, you’re knee deep in the tension between desire and pleasure. You can’t see straight until you get to see that person again on Friday night.”

Harper goes on to note, “The French philosopher Deleuze thought ‘desire’ was a much more productive state where as Freud thought ‘pleasure’–the end result–was the answer. ‘Weekend’ is a little bit of both. It’s about the ‘pleasure’ but takes place during the period of ‘desire’ when you’re waiting for your next encounter. So many love songs only emphasize the ‘pleasure’ or overemphasize the pain of ‘desire’… this one is having fun with both.”

Class Actress is Harper and producers Mark Richardson and Scott Rosenthal. The group’s sound has been described as “unabashedly slick electro-pop beats juxtaposed with coy, romantically depressed vocals courtesy of star-in-the-making Elizabeth Harper. (New York Magazine)” On Rapprocher–the follow-up to 2010’s Journal of Ardency EP–Harper’s secrets and Richardson & Rosenthal’s beats liberate the listener and freedom reigns on the dance floor.
