The tour kicked off with a sold-out show this past Tuesday, September 6 in New York, NY at the Mercury Lounge. The tour continues tonight, Thursday, September 8 in Washington, D.C. and concludes on Sunday, October 9 in Detroit, MI at the Magic Stick.

Additionally, Painted Palms have also scheduled a few festival appearances which include Rifflandia in Victoria, BC on September 22, and Olio Festival in Vancouver, BC on September 23. All tour dates are in support of their debut EP, Canopy, which is now available on 12″ vinyl and at all DSPs from Secretly Canadian. Full tour dates below.

Painted Palms recently taped a session for a new Yours Truly segment called “The Neighborhood” — a series of intimate interviews with local musicians and the music scenes in their neighborhoods. The band talk about life in San Francisco and perform a new song in their bedroom, “Big Balloon.” You can watch the video and download MP3 of the song via Yours Truly.

About Painted Palms:
Canopy is the debut EP from duo Painted Palms. With its echoes of Brill Building pop, buoyant electronics, and encompassing textural experimentation, the EP exudes something ebullient as well as meditative. Canopy is a modern psych-pop collage with an affinity for fluidity and the exotic.

Cousins Reese Donohue and Christopher Prudhomme are the creative force behind Painted Palms — a duo in the studio that expands to a five-piece band for live shows. The two grew up together on the same block in Lafayette, Louisiana. After Donohue moved to the Bay Area in California for school, they spent several years exchanging music they had made by themselves-hypnotic sound experiments and song fragments. However, it wasn’t until they both returned home for the winter break in 2009, that they began playing music together. They tried to make a song together for the first time. Two days later, they had completed “Falling Asleep,” the only track on Canopy that was made while they were in the same room (read more at 2:30 Publicity).
