With the first wave of bands announced, the interactive speakers set and the film roster ready to go, NXNE kicks into high gear for its 18th annual festival. Check out our lineup for bands that will be on everyone’s (flaming) lips and playlists before the year is out, digital innovators who are driving tech culture and must-see music films. NXNE puts a spotlight on groundbreaking culture – global and Canadian.

WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? THE ARCHERS OF LOAF LIVE AT CAT’S CRADLE

On Saturday, June 16, three-time Grammy winners THE FLAMING LIPS mount an electrifying FREE stage show for the Yonge-Dundas Square crowds in downtown Toronto. Righteous punk rockers BAD RELIGION hit on June 14, along with California stalwarts NO USE FOR A NAME. MATTHEW GOOD brings anthemic alt-rock on June 15. NXNE’s closing night features performances by influential rappers RAEKWON and GHOSTFACE KILLAH of the Wu-Tang Clan. All YDS shows free to the public.

On the new acts front, NXNE 2012’s club shows include the much-buzzed about DEATH GRIPS, OF MONTREAL, BLEACHED, THE MEN, 2:54, UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA and breaking hometown heroes METZ.

With more than 80 presentations, NXNE Interactive (NXNEi) bridges the gap between creators of all kinds and interactivity by bringing the freshest in social content and the tools and creativity behind it together.

This year’s NXNEi features ROSIE SIMAN, JERRY PAFFENDORF, DAVE OLSEN, CHRISTIE NICHOLSON, DR. MICHAEL GEIST among many others, taking a deep dive into DIY and humanizing digital content.

For artists in all genres looking to learn how to promote their work, there are 150+ hand-picked influencers and experts showing which media tools and techniques will get big results in the digital space.

NXNEi is the result of a creative partnership between NXNE and internation design and technology events company, FITC.

NXNE Film presents the world premiere of WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? THE ARCHERS OF LOAF LIVE AT CAT’S CRADLE, a feature-length documentary combining in-your-face concert footage from The Archers of Loaf reunion tour with rare interviews of the band.

Another surefire hit is the gala presentation of ECSTASY, based on the IRVINE WELSH novel Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance at the Royal Cinema. IRVINE WELSH will be in attendance and participate in an audience Q&A following the screening.

Directed by Canadian filmmaker ROB HEYDON, ECSTASY is a twisted romantic comedy that was shot in Sault Ste. Marie and Toronto, as well as Scotland and Amsterdam. View the trailer here.
