Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside will be appearing at Sasquatch Fest on Monday, May 28 from 2:25 – 3:10 on the Yeti Stage. They just went out with Wanda Jackson on a West Coast run and then joined labelmates Deer Tick for a batch of dates out West and tore it up! SF & TSO’s potent mix of retro and modern and Sallie’s massive voice brought the Portland band to national attention with their debut release, Dirty Radio, on Partisan Records, where they introduced their unique blend of roots rock, country, jazz, and blues coupled with a contemporary lyrical stance. Sallie’s voice has drawn comparisons to jazz and blues icons but has plenty of punk sass and attitude. See the band’s late night TV debut on Late Night with David Letterman here.
2011was a big year for SF&TSO, with breakthrough performances at Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Fest, Trans Musicales in France and more. They’ve taken Europe, especially France, by storm, with features in French Rolling Stone, Cosmopolitan, Le Monde, L’Express and more. They made their late-night television debut on Late Night with David Letterman, premiered videos on Rolling Stone online and IFC.com, and recorded several sessions for NPR. SF&TSO also landed on many 2011 year-end best lists, including USA Today Pop Candy’s “100 People of 2011” and Paste Magazine’s “20 Best New Bands of 2011.” Paste wrote: “Rather than simply imitating her diverse influences, Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside decided to take a little bit of Bessie Smith and mix it with a dash of Tom Waits. The result is a delicious goulash of rockabilly and blues with just enough punk attitude to separate Ford’s sound from all the other homage-rock bands out there.”
