“Listener’s Picks For The Year’s Best Albums (So Far)”—NPR
“Lit up and charged…four-part harmonies that are close to being crystalline.”—Daytrotter
The latest video from critically acclaimed band Trampled by Turtles debuted at the Bethany Lutheran College Speechless Film Festival to an overwhelming response. Conceived and created by students in the Bethany Lutheran College Media Arts department, the emotional video features stop-motion animation, elaborate cityscapes and 28 hand-made wooden puppets. The video can be viewed here.
Trampled by Turtles continue to receive praise for their latest album Stars and Satellites available now on Thirty Tigers/RED. The album is described by Associated Press as having a “rich colour scheme of sounds, often working out intricate figures that lock so tightly it’s impossible to unravel just what’s going on.” The band has performed on “Conan,” “The Prairie Home Companion,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.” TBT will continue to support the latest release with tour dates throughout 2013 that includes their first tour of Europe (see below for details). Their tour schedule includes stops at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Bumbershoot, LouFest, XPoNential Festival, Alaska and Minnesota State Fair.
Formed in Duluth, MN, in 2003, Trampled by Turtles is Dave Simonett (guitar, vocals), Tim Saxhaug (bass, vocals), Dave Carroll (banjo, vocals), Erik Berry (mandolin) and Ryan Young (fiddle, vocals). Within the contained music scene of Duluth, the members of the band did their own time in punk and rock bands, brandishing their electricity proudly before switching to acoustic instruments. While they never set out to be a “bluegrass” band, Trampled by Turtles employs many of the same traditional techniques of the genre, but their differences in influences, attitude and attack make for their unique sound.
