On the heels of her successful Fire and Shine tour, with sold-out shows in nearly every market, and a buzzworthy return to SXSW, alternative blues-soul singer ZZ Ward has announced her plans for a summer tour and festival run. The tour will kick off in Boise, ID on May 28 and include performances at some of the most anticipated music festivals including Firefly and Sasquatch, where she’ll be performing alongside the likes of The Lumineers, Kendrick Lamar, Vampire Weekend, and more. An eclectic and innovative performer, Ward’s mix of backporch blues and gritty hip-hop beats has been resonating with both fans and critics alike. Ward is also is set to make her mark on this year’s Record Store Day with an exclusive 7″ vinyl (shown above with a vintage photo of ZZ when she’s 11 years old), featuring two previously unreleased recordings. On the B-side is a song that ZZ says, “makes you want to drive around listening to it on a summer night with the top down,” called ‘Everybody Wants To Be Famous,’ which is an unreleased cut from her album sessions and another collaboration with Neff-U. Listen to the song premiere at Idolator. The exclusive vinyl will be a limited release on this year’s Record Store Day, April 20.

Appearances on Good Morning America, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Conan, Last Call with Carson Daly and VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live,” keep ZZ in the public eye while her songs continue to be prominently featured in such hits as Nashville, The Voice, ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars and MTV’s Awkward.

Feathers Announce Tour With Little Boots / New Album Release Date

After a massively successful SXSW where they opened for their heroes Depeche Mode, Austin, TX four-piece Feathers will serve as support to Little Boots on their upcoming US tour. (Dates listed below) The band will also perform at Filter Magazine’s Pre-Coachella party on April 18th.

Feathers debut album If All Now Here will now arrive in stores on May 28th.

The group is the work of singer-songwriter Anastasia Dimou (Cruel Black Dove). The band lineup features bassist Courtney Voss (Missions), keyboardist Kathleen Carmichael and drummer Jon Minor, as well as alternating members Destiny Montague (Shock Cinema/Midnight Masses) and Alex Gehring (Ringo Deathstarr). Dimou has been described as having a bold live persona, bringing a sense of mystery and a raw voice to a backdrop of pop melodies and beats, making the unique sound of Feathers.

FADER recently debuted a video for the second track from the forthcoming album: “Soft.” You can watch the video for that track here:

What people are saying about Feathers:
“Charming all who stumbled across them, their industrial-tinged synth sound might go directly against music’s current psychedelic love-in but that just makes them all the more crisp and refreshing.” – NME

“If All Now Here” a shimmering tribute to night-staking heroes like the Cure and Depeche Mode.”
– Entertainment Weekly

“Pulsing synths and siren-song harmonies” – BrooklynVegan.com

“Feathers channeled the “Personal Jesus” electro-blues stomp of Depeche Mode…” – Chicago Tribune

“But in a night dedicated to discovery, at least for this reporter, one of the most accessible was Austin-based Feathers. Singer Anastasia Dimou always seemed to be attempting to conjure a mood, waving the audience to her and then pushing them away as if the stage was something she was floating on.” – Los Angeles Times

“Land of the Innocent, the debut single, neatly expresses Feathers’ desire to combine a dystopian future-world aesthetic with a pop sensibility and rhythms tough enough to pass muster in the realm of the industrial… makes you wonder why there hasn’t been such an all-female group before.” – The Guardian

“Led by NYC transplant Anastasia Dimou, Feathers’ goth-hued electro thrives in the era of New Order and Depeche Mode, brought to life by a cast of heavy hitters, including a mix by Steven DePalo, who’s worked with fellow dark wave synths Cold Cave.”
– Austin Chronicle

“Feathers, whose synth-packed debut track ‘Land Of The Innocent’ is TOTAL heaven.” – In Style Magazine

The Veils Release New MP3 w/ SPIN, LP Out 4/23 + US Tour Dates

“Dancing With The Tornado” MP3 Drops

Time Stays, We Go Out April 23rd, North American Tour Kicks Off April 20th

“Frontman Finn Andrews posseses Nick Cave-like charisma, and the London five-piece has an impeccable sense of timing.” — SPIN

“…fiery and anthemic…” — BrooklynVegan

The Veils have announced their return with their highly-anticipated fourth album, Time Stays, We Go. Recorded at Seedy Underbelly Studios in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, the album was produced by lead singer/songwriter Finn Andrews and Adam Greenspan (Divine Fits, Arcade Fire.) The band tempted seminal English producer Bill Price (The Clash, Jesus & Mary Chain) out of retirement to mix the record to tape at Metropolis Studios in London, lending the album a rich, analogue sound rarely heard in popular music today. Marking the beginning of a captivating new era for a band, Time Stays, We Go is due out April 23rd via Pitch Beast Records and is available for pre-order now.

Album track “Dancing With The Tornado” is an upbeat, energetic cut that showcases Finn’s raw, dynamic vocals twisting and turning above driving percussion and dancing guitar lines.

First single “Through The Deep, Dark Wood” opens the album with a driving rhythm and palpable electric energy. “The Pearl” plays up Finn’s lush, expressive drawl with a simple melody and somber undertones. “Turn From The Rain” is full of bright, lively instrumentation that plays up the song’s message of hope and perseverance. Album closer “Out From The Valley & Into The Stars” is a heartbreakingly stunning ballad that builds to an explosive climax, leaving listeners wanting more.

Time Stays, We Go shows The Veils at the very height of their creative powers so far, deftly combining two distinct sides of their personality. The band will kick off a North American tour in April—be sure to catch them live in your city, and stay tuned for more from The Veils coming soon!

The Boxer Rebellion To Release New Album, “Promises,” On May 14

MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE, “DIAMONDS,” NOW STREAMING ONLINE

NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR CONFIRMED FOR MAY-JUNE & LONDON FORUM SHOW ANNOUNCED FOR OCTOBER 11

VIDEO: “DIAMONDS” (FROM PROMISES)

London-based indie rock quartet The Boxer Rebellion are pleased to announce details of their new album titled Promises. Co-produced with producer Billy Bush in Los Angeles, CA, and being released on May 14 through the band’s own Absentee Recordings label, Promises is the uplifting and cinematic follow-up to the critically-acclaimed The Cold Still, and will be available to pre-order from Tuesday, April 2.

Photo: Vincent Dolman

The Boxer Rebellion took to their London rehearsal space and transformed it into a recording studio where the songs for Promises would eventually come together over the last 18 months. Moving away from the more analog and darker soundscapes that enveloped the band’s previous album, Promises is a significant step in a different direction for the London four-piece – a hi-fi, soaring piece of work that truly delivers on the band’s epic, signature sound, and individual skill as musicians. From the retro-glossiness of the album’s opener, “Diamonds,” to the wall-of-sound that is “Fragile,” to the towering beauty of “Low,” “New York,” and “Dream,” Promises presents itself as an evolution in aesthetic – diverse in soundscapes but singular in grand ambition – for a band that continues to push and explore its creative ability with each new release.

As a first glance into the new album, the band today officially released their music video for new single “Diamonds.” Shot by British directorial duo Justin and James Lockey (aka Hand.Held.Cine.Club), the film stars lead singer Nathan Nicholson suffering a dead-end job and finding momentary escapism by way of a sudden free-fall flight through the air. Shot in the North of England, the team built an office space inside an empty shell of a building, worked with free-base skydivers in sub-zero temperatures, and plunged into ice cold waters to capture a stark and emotive film fitting to the song’s message.

The Promises North American tour will see the band’s immense live show re-worked from the ground-up, starting in Montreal on May 21 and hitting numerous cities for the first time ever, including Edmonton, Calgary, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh. The band will also play Neptune, Seattle (6/2); Fillmore, San Francisco (6/5); Avalon, Los Angeles (6/7); Metro, Chicago (6/15); and Webster Hall, NYC (6/20). A complete list of tour dates is below, and support comes from much lauded UK-based band Fossil Collective. The band have also announced their largest UK headline show to date, a performance at the legendary venue The Forum on October 11. Tickets are on sale now via the band’s Web site and will be on general sale this Friday, March 29.

TAUK To Release New LP Homunculus on April 30 Announces NYC Album Release Party at Sullivan Hall, April 24

iTunes Pre-Order for Homunculus begins on April 9th!

“Tauk is an incredibly impressive ensemble of talent.

The four-piece band carries an incredible groove that meshes jazz and funk with a fresh pop sound.”

– Relix Magazine

“Tauk is a band on the rise”

– Glide Magazine, Hidden Track

“A young and guaranteed to quickly-ascend band, Tauk, delivers an instrumental demonstration,

often reminiscent of Phish and Lotus”

– JamBase

The rock/fusion quartet TAUK announces today they will release their much-anticipated LP, Homunculus on Tuesday, April 30th. After the widespread acclaim from the group’s first ever instrumental EP Pull Factors (2012) the NYC group joined forces yet again with Grammy-Winning Producer Robert Carranza (Mars Volta, Jack Johnson) to craft their first entirely instrumental full-length album. iTunes Pre-Order for Homunculus begins April 9th. For more info, visit: www.taukband.com.

TAUK’s unique experimental blend of instrumental funk, jazz, pop, and rock landed the band spots on last summer’s biggest festivals such as Bonnaroo, The Hangout Music Festival, Summer Camp Music Festival and The Allman Brother’s Peach Fest.and opening gigs for moe., Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Perpetual Groove, O.A.R., 311, Tea Leaf Green and Toubab Krewe. Check out TAUK performing their unique rendition of The Beatles classic “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” for Indaba Music: http://bit.ly/TAUKindaba

TAUK is Matt Jalbert (Guitar), Charlie Dolan (Bass), Alric “A.C.” Carter (Keyboard-Organ), and Isaac Teel (Drums). Forming in middle school, a majority of TAUK’s members have been playing together for over a decade. The group experimented with their sound throughout the years both individually while studying at top music universities and conservatories, and together as a band – always working to find their ideal sound. It wasn’t until 2012 with the addition of drummer, Isaac Teel, and the realization the band could build a fan base around a completely instrumental act, that the pieces fell into place for Homunculus. Jalbert explains, “This band has been through a lot, but we hit a point last year where it just felt like things were coming together the way they were supposed to. We really wanted this new album to be a statement as to what TAUK is all about.”

With the new album’s psychedelic title, Homunculus, TAUK aims to leave the interpretation of both the title and the music up to the listener. “Being an instrumental band leaves a lot of our music up to being interpreted in different ways,” explains Jalbert.

Expanding on the album title’s relationship to the band’s recording process, Carter adds, “Homunculus has everything to do with how we as humans interpret ourselves and our surroundings. It acknowledges the inherent duality that exists between our mental and physical beings and to me that’s where it relates to our creative process.”

TAUK manages to create a live show experience to match their masterfully produced recordings. The unique chemistry and relaxed-focus of Tauk’s performance is undeniable, but their ability to create immensely melodic and emotional music without a vocal lead is what continues to captivate and impress music lovers across all genres. The future is continuing to look bright for this talented and ambitious quartet.

TAUK will release Homunculus on April 30, 2013.

The Flaming Lips’ “The Terror” Has a New U.S. Release Date April 16

THE TERROR by THE FLAMING LIPS has a new U.S. release date of April 16th (U.K release date remains April 1). As previously mentioned The Terror is THE LIPS’ thirteenth studio album and was produced by long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann and THE FLAMING LIPS at Tarbox Road Studios. Multi- instrumentalist Steven Drozd considers the music they’ve created on this album as; “a mood that might possibly suggest elements of Popol Vuh, Silver Apples, and Suicide.”

Wayne Coyne explains, “Why would we make this music that is The Terror – this bleak, disturbing record…? I don’t really want to know the answer that I think is coming. Maybe this is the beginning of the answer.”

The Terror is a bold and expressive journey that has evolved over THE LIPS’ nearly 30-year tended garden of sonic delights that ebbs and flows with extraordinary splashes of light and shade, pleasure and pain, sadness and hope, and the knowledge that to expect the unexpected is half the fun of THE LIPS experience.

THE TERROR will be available as a special Direct To Consumer, Limited-Edition Silver Vinyl double-LP set, housed in a two-pocket gatefold jacket with printed sleeves. Those who pre-order will receive an instant download of “Sun Blows Up Today” and the digital album delivered on release date, April 16th. Suggested retail price is $35.98.

THE TERROR CD edition pre-order includes an instant download of “Sun Blows Up Today” and the digital album delivered on release date, April 16th. Suggested retail price is $10.98.

In other LIPS news, the band hosted two magic events at SXSW this past week, including a no-frills first-ever performance of YOSHIMI BATTLES THE PINK ROBOTS in its entirety live from The Warner Sound at The Belmont in Austin, TX. The intimacy of a small room packed to the bricks was the perfect setting to see the band up close performing some the songs from their certified gold album for the first time ever without any stage production made for special night. The show was filmed live by NPR. Details of when the show can be viewed will be announced shortly.

Even more impressive was the first-ever performance of THE TERROR in its entirety the following night at Auditorium Shores, which set an all-time attendance record for a show at that venue in the history of SXSW drawing in excess of 30,000 attendees. Jim James of My Morning Jacket (who opened the show) joined the band on-stage for a particularly moving version of “Do You Realize??”. The Auditorium Shores show was broadcast live by Sirius/XM.

Again, here’s the track listing for The Terror:

Legendary band The Bats release new album and return to the USA for a tour beginning in May

The Bats return to America in 2013 to celebrate the release of their latest album, Free All The Monsters and the special re-issue of recordings from their early years. The Bats’ original New Zealand label, Flying Nun, has also returned to action, and along with Captured Tracks from USA is re-releasing much of The Bats’ back catalogue.

The Bats were formed in 1982 in Christchurch, New Zealand, by Robert Scott (The Clean) chief songwriter on lead vocals and guitar, bassist Paul Kean (Toy Love) singer/guitarist Kaye Woodward (Minisnap) and drummer Malcolm Grant (The Builders). Following a series of EPs, came their outstanding debut Daddy’s Highway in 1987 and from there it has been a stream of acclaimed albums all the while amassing fans and friends around the world.

They have released three EP’s, seven albums and two compilations, gone on numerous international tours and received gushing reviews from every corner of the music press. From their first 3 eps through to their recent 8th studio album, Free All the Monsters, The Bats have miraculously retained the same line-up

Free All The Monsters shows them in top form. Recorded at Seacliff, a former asylum in the grand Victorian style just outside of Dunedin, New Zealand, and masterfully produced by Dale Cotton (HDU, Dimmer), it captures some of their strongest songs to date.

They have also released a video for “The Simpletons,” one of the tracks from their new album. The video was filmed in the Red Zone of central Christchurch, New Zealand, the site of the 6.3 earthquake that struck the city in 2011.

History of The Eagles to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on April 30th

THREE-DISC SET INCLUDES ACCLAIMED TWO-PART DOCUMENTARY FILM AND PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED LIVE CONCERT FOOTAGE FROM THE 1977 HOTEL CALIFORNIA TOUR

Capitol Records has acquired the exclusive DVD/Blu-ray rights to History of the Eagles, the iconic band’s acclaimed documentary, which is set for release on Tuesday, April 30. This exceptional three-disc set includes History of the Eagles Part One and History of the Eagles Part Two, as well as Eagles Live At The Capital Centre – March 1977, featuring never-before-released performances from the Eagles’ two-night stand at Washington, D.C.’s Capital Center during the legendary Hotel California tour.

History of the Eagles will be released in both DVD and Blu-ray three-disc configurations – all with 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo audio – beautifully packaged in a six-panel digipak with accompanying photographic booklet. A Super Deluxe Box Set will be released as a limited edition, complete with three Blu-ray discs; a 40-page casebound book featuring still photos from the films; 10 archival-quality photographs of the band from throughout its storied history; and a specially created lithograph of the band’s desert-bleached skull icon. All elements in this limited edition deluxe set will be packaged in a specially designed foil-stamped and embossed box, with a Native American blanket-inspired liner, beautifully wrapped in a leather tie, and fastened with a bone button.

All three versions of History of the Eagles will be available for preorder beginning today, March 12 through Amazon.com and the Eagles website (http://eaglesband.com).

Seeking to provide an unprecedented and intimate look into the history of the band and the legacy of its music, the Eagles partnered with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) to produce the film. Directed by Alison Ellwood (Magic Trip: Ken Kesey’s Search for a Kool Place), History of the Eagles is a meticulous creation featuring rare archival material, concert footage, and never-before-seen home movies that explore the evolution and enduring popularity of one of the world’s biggest-selling and culturally significant American bands.

History of the Eagles made its television broadcast debut on Showtime last month, earning the network its highest ratings for a music documentary in eight years. Part One premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January to great acclaim.

History of the Eagles Part One dedicates two hours to the chronicling of the band’s creation and rise to fame in the 1970’s through its breakup in 1980. More than 25 new and exclusive interviews were conducted with all current band members — Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – as well as former members Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner and Don Felder. Also featured are new and exclusive interviews with Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Kenny Rogers, Irving Azoff and many other seminal artists and band contemporaries who have been closely involved with the Eagles’ history.

While personal stories from band members, managers, and music industry luminaries frame the narrative, it’s the unexpected moments-recording sessions, backstage interactions, and even a whimsical sequence from the Desperado cover shoot-that convey the extraordinary bond linking the artists, their music, and the times (an era when country-tinged rock and finely-honed harmonies spoke to a nation still reeling from unrest).

Additionally, the documentary features previously unreleased home movies and archival footage. Personal photos, video and memorabilia amassed by the Eagles over the course of their career will also be seen for the very first time.

History of the Eagles Part Two reveals the personal and professional struggles members faced while the band was apart, and chronicles the group’s dramatic reunion in 1994, as well as its resurgence in recording and performing throughout the next two decades. Among the band’s many achievements since reforming are its triumphant Hell Freezes Over tour, the 2007 release of Long Road Out of Eden (which sold more than 5.5 million copies worldwide and earned two GRAMMY® Awards), and its ongoing ascendance as an international supergroup.

Eagles Live at the Capital Centre – March 1977 features previously unreleased concert performances of “Hotel California,” “New Kid In Town,” “Take It To The Limit,” “One Of These Nights,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Rocky Mountain Way,” “Best Of My Love” and “Take It Easy,” all captured during the band’s two-night stand in Washington, D.C. during its historic Hotel California world tour.

Directed by Alison Ellwood and produced by Alex Gibney, History of the Eagles was created with a select crew of filmmakers including: Blair Foster, Executive Producer; Alison Ellwood and Ben Sozanski, Editors; Karim Karmi, Co-Producer; and Erin Edeiken, Line Producer.

The Eagles have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, earned five No. 1 U.S. singles and six GRAMMY® Awards. Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is the best-selling album of all time, exceeding sales of 29 million units. The band’s Hotel California and Eagles Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 have sold more than 16 million and 11 million albums, respectively. The Eagles were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
