(Los Angeles, CA) October 4, 2007- Last year, alcoholic beverage company Smirnoff introduced the world to “Tea Partay” a hilarious parody combining the typecasts of both the rap world and the privileged existence of Ivy Leaguers. The music video featuring the aptly named P-Unit, created to promote Smirnoff’s new tea infused malted beverage Smirnoff Raw Tea, exploded in popularity on the internet, garnering nearly 4 million views on YouTube.
Capitalizing off of the popularity, Smirnoff enlisted Hip-Hop producer J. Wells and producer/executive Ted Chung of Los Angeles based music entertainment company Suited N Booted to create the soundtrack for the campaign’s latest installment, “Smirnoff Raw Tea Green Tea”(www.teapartay.com or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWzNiUXTh7E). The Marc Klasfield (the famed eye behind commercials for Nike, ESPN and Subway as well as videos for Jay Z, Beyonce, Foo Fighters and Michael Jackson) directed internet only Hip-Hop video introduces the world to Smirnoff’s Raw Tea Green Tea. In addition, the video spoofs the lifestyle of West Coast based rich kid rap group, Boyz N the Hillz, as they attempt to carve out their own niche in rap world. The video hit the web just weeks ago and has already gained well over 3 million views on Youtube.
J. Wells (who earlier this year released Digital Smoke, a collaborative album with West Coast rap legend Kurupt and has produced for Keyshia Cole, Angie Stone and Nee-Yo) and Ted Chung (President of Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle Records) crafted the track and coached the actors through the song’s side-splitting lyrics during a session at Inglewood’s famed Purple Rain Studios, a hub of both musical and commercial creations.
J. Wells and Chung are no strangers to commercials and marketing campaigns. J. Wells has crafted soundtracks to TV advertisements for McDonalds, Starbucks, Six Feet Under and The Sopranos while Chung has produced soundtracks for commercials for Land Rover and music supervised EA Sport’s NBA Live as well as oversaw the marketing campaign for Snoop Dogg’s platinum selling Tha Blue Carpet Treatment.
