Keepin It Lit! Tonka…?! Molly Wop…. WTF???!!!! Husalah & B-Luv roll out more Bay Area culture with the duo’s debut

Despite currently serving a 5 year prison sentence for drug trafficking across state lines, Husalah and his man on the outside B-Luv are readying the anticipated debut Tonka Boyz on N&C/ SMC Recordings July 22nd.

Husalah has been a familiar name in the West Coast rap circuit since 2000, he was first introduced by C-Bo in a group he formed called the Mob Figaz. B-Luv had been working alongside Mac Dre as a part of the Thizz Nation. The two met while working on Thizz Nation Vol. 1 & 2 compilations, and Bay Area classic DVD’s 23109: Exhibition of Speed & Treal TV 1 & 2. The bond between the two rappers became stronger after the sudden passing of their mentor, Mac Dre, in 2004. The two realized they had a lot in common including music, mannerisms, habits and giggin (a form of dance from the Bay Area). Though Husalah and B-Luv had recorded together in Mac Dre’s studio before his passing, they had never released anything together as a group. The two artists decided they needed to keep Mac Dre’s memory alive and began recording music for the Tonka Boyz album shortly after his death.

While working together Husalah ran into some trouble with the law and went on the lam for 2 years. During that time the duo tried to record any chance they had but the project stalled when Husalah was charged and convicted of a federal offence in 2006. He received 4 _ years. Husalah decided that the project should continue and began recording his rhymes over the phone from prison. Besides being featured as one half of the duo Husalah & B-Luv, Husalah lends his comedic side to serve as the host of this album via prison.

B-Luv has described their sound as having an old school influence; he is looking forward to the release of their first single, “Cuttin It Up” and explains why they named their album Tonka Boyz. “Tonka means everything big, whatever you are doing, you are doing it big. We do everything big out here, cars sittin high in the air, you know, ‘those rims are TONKA!’”

The West Coast and the rest of the nation are sure to be hyped about the release of this upbeat album this summer. You know it’s going to be TONKA!
