MVRemix: For those that are now hearing about you for the first time, tell us about yourself.
Searius Add: I’m “The ladies choice, and the fellas voice.” A college boy’s mind with a dope boy’s hustle. I started rapping in 6th grade and picked up spoken word my first year in college; currently I do both. I work hard at what I do and I’m good at what I do. Humbly speaking. [laughs]
MVRemix: As a songwriter, who has influenced you?
Searius Add: Oldies. R&B mostly; Donny Hathaway, The Manhattans, Curtis Mayfield, New Birth, Smokey Robinson. I’m a new school player, old school game, new school energy.
MVRemix: How does living in Ohio shape your attitude towards music, art and culture in general?
Searius Add: In Ohio you have a combination of alot of different influences; some people here were supporting the Houston movement 10 years ago, some were heavy into No Limit, some are big East Coast fans. There’s a little bit of everything here. People from Ohio tend to go else where and set up shop; Don King, Halle Berry, Terrence Howard, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, plenty more… and now Searius Add. [laughs]
MVRemix: How did the name “Searius Add” come to be?
Searius Add: It’s short for my real name.
MVRemix: Your logo includes a Chess piece, are you a big fan of the game?
Searius Add: Yessir. Even moreso, the chess game of life. In which I’m pretty damn good. [laughs]
MVRemix: You recently collaborated with Mick Boogie, how did that come about?
Searius Add: I hollered at Mick late 2006 or so about doing a project together. Mick stays hella busy travelling and the like. However, we got it done and it turned out great. Mick is very professional and I like the way he works; high quality and high efficiency.
MVRemix: What separates you from other rappers? Why should I opt to listen to your music above others?
Searius Add: I’m actually good at what I do AND I make you feel it. I know who I am as an artist and I speak real talk for real ears. Visually I bring a unique appeal. My music is like “commerical soul”.
MVRemix: Have fun with this one, a la “Fight Club” – “If you could fight any celebrity, who would you fight”?
Searius Add: [laughs] I’m a “Art of War” type of dude. If you have a physical confrontation, then you already lost. I’m a finesse player, I leave the rough stuff for the ruffians. [laughs]
MVRemix: Do you have any non musical aspirations?
Searius Add: Most definitely! I’m a quadruple threat. I starred as “Captian Crunk” in “The Adventures of Pan” the last two years and I look forward to more roles when time permits. I have a spoken word book and a novel series about to drop. My company Backpack Developments is taking off combining music, education and the environment. I’m a natural hair model, I have a t shirt line that’s about to drop… plus a few more things on the horizon.
MVRemix: What was the last book you read?
Searius Add: “Pimpology: The 48 Laws Of The Game”.
MVRemix: In a sentence or less, what do you do to relax?
Searius Add: Sleep! Or kick it with my little people when they’re not jumping off the walls. I have a son and a daughter. [laughs]
MVRemix: Finish this sentence: ‘In a perfect world…’
Searius Add: …people would see that perfection is a road, not a destination.
MVRemix: What next do we have to look forward to from you?
Searius Add: The BPD Tour (BackPack Developments) kicks off in October starting in Florida. Its a cross brand between my company’s agenda and me as an artist: we’re gonna kick it with community service and the kids during the day… then shut down the club or convention center at night. All in a days work. [laughs]
MVRemix: Any last words?
Searius Add: Shout out to Naja, Ken, the entire Team Add staff and Backpack Developments crew, my brother Sinatra, Chief Execs Ent, Nick at HipHopColumbus.com and everyone who supports and hold me down, I live a beautiful life. Thank you. Peace.
