KONRAD BLACK READIES TO BLACK OUT AMERICA Unleashes Six Date US Bi-Coastal Tour, Including
Black Valentine Miami Party Takes The Reigns for Prestigious WATERGATE03 Mix Series
Wagon Repair co-founder Konrad Black has announced a six date US tour kicking off February 12, 2009. The tour coincides with him taking the reigns of the esteemed Watergate mix series, with WATERGATE03 – KONRAD BLACK set to be released March 2009.
It’s been a seminal twelve months for Konrad Black in North America, who over the last five years has bubbled to the surface as one of North America’s most bleeding edge dance music talents. His Wagon Repair label has emerged as a global touch point for the very best new and innovative techno music and holds down a quarterly residency at Watergate. While Black’s busy European club schedule, which includes a monthly residency at the famed Panorama Bar, coupled with coveted appearances at NYC’s Minitek and DEMF in 2008 and headlining slots at Avalon in LA, has paved the way for his debut US tour in 2009.
The Vancouver born Black, who relocated to Berlin in 2006, has been turning heads in Europe for several years. His 2005 debut releases on his own highly influential Wagon Repair label, ‘Medusa Smile’ and ‘Draconia’, quickly found themselves in the crates of the world’s top DJs and tastemakers. Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug, Loco Dice and Tiga all enthused over his atmospheric twisted bass style, derived from his origins in the drum & bass worlds of Vancouver and London. His signature dark shadowy tones resonated with club goers around the world, to the point where ‘Medusa Smile’ was included upon Sven Vath’s highly influential ‘Sound of the Sixth Season’ mix CD.
Since then Black has been a highly sought after re-mixer and producer with his work regularly appearing on the world’s top dance music labels including Get Physical, Crosstown Rebels, M_NUS, Fabric (London), Poker Flat Recordings, Spectral and Cocoon among others.
2008 saw Black tapped to headline two of Beatport’s five year anniversary parties, represent M_NUS at their world renowned CONTAKT party in London and produce prestigious remixes of Tiga’s ‘Sunglasses at Night’ and Marc Romboy’s ‘Side Effects’.
An analog producer, Black loves his synths and keyboards, and after having to beg, borrow and steal equipment to start his musical career, Black’s studio now boasts a formidable arsenal of hardware on which he compiles his bass driven musical assaults.

Artist bio – Konrad Black:
Konrad Black has been involved in DJing, producing and performing music for the past ten years. After his first drum and bass release on Formation Records in the UK, influences such as Maurizio and Klang inspired an interest in more minimal sounds, and in 1998, a meeting with Swayzak in Vancouver led to ‘Greycale’ for Slow Building in 1999.
After relocating to London and working with Ed Rush and Optical’s prestigious Drum & Bass label Virus Recordings, Black continued to pursue his interest in techno, recording the 2002 track ‘White Cigarettes’ for Swayzak’s 240 Volts Compilation. Concurrently Konrad worked as Headgear with March 21st of Circlesquare. This project culminated in a collaboration with Swayzak for the track ‘In the Car Crash’ on the seminal album ‘Dirty Dancing’, released in 2002.
In 2004 Black returned to Vancouver and formed Wagon Repair Recordings with Mathew Jonson, Graham Boothby and Jesse Fisk. In a very short space of time the label has become one of the most respected and consistent in the world. A keen interest in visual art, Black has designed and produced all the art-work for his Wagon Repair releases.
Of Wagon Repair Black says: “The founding mandate of the label was, and still is, to put out whatever moves us, not to be defined by style or sales figures. It serves as a creative outlet for all of us…musically and aesthetically.”
