Asa Releases Exclusive Track on Zune Marketplace | Zune Ignition Artists Nominated for Grammys
Coinciding with this week’s release of her debut album, Nigerian culturally conscious singer-songwriter Asa (pronounced Ah-shah) is featured as Zune’s latest Ignition artist for the month of January. As part of the Ignition program, Asa offered an exclusive track “Iba” for download last week and has also currated a personalized “Guest List” featuring hand-picked tracks from artists that influenced her budding musical career, which include Nina Simone, Bob Marley and Jill Scott. Asa’s debut album was released Tuesday, January 27th on Downtown Records’ new imprint Mercer St Records, which was created as a vibrant outlet for eclectic adult-oriented and world music artists.
Zune’s Ignition program provides a unique multi-platform online promotional push for emerging artists through Zune, MSN, and Xbox portals to help artists efficiently reach consumers in all three audiences. Ignition provides a steady stream of new music through online access to exclusive content, free songs and video downloads, streaming videos, editorial features, and artist playlists. Eight of the ten eligible Zune Ignition artists from 2008 have also received nominations for Grammy awards, and Zune would like to congratulate the following artists on their nominations:
