Obese Records signs Melbourne artist Illy

Obese Records is proud to announce the addition of Melbourne-based hip hop artist Illy to its roster. Illy’s solo repertoire was featured on his solid two-volume mixtape (released in 2007 and 2008 respectively) and his captivating stage presence (having shared the stage with Bliss n’ Eso, Phrase, Spit Syndicate, and Dialectrix).

Influenced by kaleidoscope of artists from Nas to Bob Marley, Biggie to Bob Dylan, the 23-year-old MC boasts a spitfire flow, both youthful and intelligent, but ripe with attitude; a compliment to his world-traversing musical vision. The latest member of the Obese family is currently wrapping up production on his debut full length album, Long Story Short, that features guest performances by label boss Pegz, N’fa Forster-Jones (of 1200 Techniques fame) Phrase, Spit Syndicate, and Solo (Horrorshow). The album’s production boasts work by M-Phazes, J-Skub and more.

Illy’s first major foray into the public scope will be at this year’s Obese Carjack Tour 2009 where he will feature at the Brisbane and Adelaide stops of the trek.

Long Story Short will hit stores in April. The album’s single, “Generation Y”, along with its video, will drop in late March.
