Sneak Peak: Tanya Morgan Perform Brooklynati Live At SXSW Live Recording of Smoking Section / Nah Right Performance Released

The Tracks:

It’s ok if the stars didn’t align perfectly for you to attend SXSW this year because you can still get a taste of the action through this Tanya Morgan live recording of their highly anticipated forthcoming album, Brooklynati. After a highly productive weekend filled with networking and multiple performances throughout the festival, here’s what Tanya Morgan had to say on SXSW and this recording:

“We recorded the set as a gift to our fans who have been waiting patiently for BKNATI but couldn’t get to SXSW to see us perform. We felt like just because you couldn’t make the trip, that shouldn’t mean you couldn’t get the same sneak peak that the industry insiders get. Enjoy!” – Donwill

“I had a ball down at SXSW. It was basically a hip hop family reunion of sorts for our generation of the music industry.” -Ilyas

“We decided to give our fans a live sampler for the album before May 12th because we know there’s some Tanya Morgan fans that never got to see us live, and others that are anticipating what the album is going to sound like.” -Von Pea

The Background:

Tanya Morgan is back with their third project, Brooklynati, following the success of Moonlighting and The Bridge. Since Von Pea, Ilyas, and Don Will formed Tanya Morgan in 2003, they have received high praise from media elites such as Spin, The Source, XXL Magazine and a resounding seal of approval from the blogosphere. Considered by many to be our generation’s torchbearers for De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, Tanya Morgan will once again put their skills on display with the unique hip-hop Americana sounds of their Brooklynati album this spring. Based on the fictitious city of Brooklynati, this release pushes the boundaries of a concept album by incorporating not only lyrical imagery but also cultivating a culture and mindset, which can be experienced through the City of Brooklynati Chamber of Commerce website: The sites, sounds, memories, and events of Brooklynati will be unleashed on May 12th through Bay-Area based record label Interdependent Media, the architects behind the funding and development of Brooklynati. Critical Praise for Tanya Morgan:
“The trio’s latest, the savory The Bridge EP, demonstrates why Tanya Morgan has been a critical favorite for the last several years. Their deliveries are effortless, their beats run the gamut from smooth to boom-bappy, and their music has an inspiring vibe.” – The Source

“Never mind the name — Tanya Morgan is a hip-hop trio with an affinity for soul breaks, big beats and complex, conscious lyrics.”” –

“their newest project, the highly anticipated The Bridge, is garnering them more buzz than a U.S. soldier’s haircut.” –

“With all due respect to Talib and Hi-Tek, I’m actually more inclined to revisit team Tanya’s likeably loose, bordering-on-sloppy inaugural effort than said ballyhooed backpack-crowd classic.” – XXL – Chariman’s Choice
