U.S. performing right organization BMI will present its 12th Annual Unsigned Urban Showcase Thursday, April 23, featuring a combination of the recording industry’s eminent stars and most-promising unsigned talent. Staged at E.S.S.O Nightclub (1599 Memorial Drive, Atlanta, GA), the event begins at 9 p.m.; doors open at 8 p.m. The festivities are open to the public; attendees must be 21-years-old with valid identification. For $25 limited advance tickets and table reservations, please call (404) 378-1095.

Headliners for the highly-anticipated night of music are inimitable MC NAS; mellifluous crooner Trey Songz; and multi-talented troubadour Novel, who will each bring their respective high-energy sounds. DJ Khaled will host the event.

Hopefuls from across the country vied for a chance to display their talent in front of Atlanta’s influential, superstar-spotting music community, and the showcase finalists were chosen by a group of top BMI songwriters, producers and industry executives from over 300 submissions. The contenders include songwriting siren Ryn Nicole (San Diego); genre-smashing showman Kameron Corvet (Atlanta); Source Magazine “hyped” MC Rain (NYC); and r&b wranglers 718 (NYC).

The night provides a unique opportunity for BMI affiliates to showcase before a room of industry professionals. The final four will perform for a panel of celebrity judges including singer/songwriter Dallas Austin (Madonna, TLC); Capitol Records Senior Vice President, Urban Music Leonard Brooks; MySpace Records President, Urban Music Marquis Collins; manager and Imani Entertainment Group CEO Manny Halley (clients include Keyshia Cole & Lyfe Jennings); Def Jam Recordings Executive Vice President Chris Hicks; Polo Grounds Music President and RCA Music Group Senior Vice President, Urban Bryan Leach; manager and Czar Entertainment CEO Jimmy Rosmond (clients include The Game, Gucci Mane & Pleasure P).

BMI will also present the Legends of ATL Award to a community leader, recognizing his or her contributions to the Atlanta music scene. Past recipients of the prestigious honor include Big Oomp, Organized Noize and Dallas Austin.

Urban music is on the way out. Black artists need to start either making dance/electronic songs or collaborating with those artists. That is where the big money is headed this decade.

I’m trying to get my artist involved in the B.M.I. contest. I’m a member of B.M.I. and in need of more information. Thank you
