MIKE JONES’ SOPHOMORE CD “THE VOICE” LANDS TOP 5 (#2) ON BILLBOARD’S “TOP R&B/HIP-HOP ALBUMS” CHART
“THE VOICE” LANDS TOP 20 (#12) ON “THE BILLBOARD 200” CHART
Burbank, CA- We are pleased to announce that platinum-selling rapper Mike Jones’ sophomore CD, The Voice (Ice Age/SwishaHouse/Asylum Records), landed in the Top 5 (#2) on Billboard’s “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” chart and Top 20 (#12) on “The Billboard 200” chart.
The Voice is Mike Jones’ first release in four years and follows his platinum-plus selling debut, Who? Mike Jones. Employing an innovative strategy, Warner Bros. released a string of successful songs — “Drop And Give Me 50,” “Cuddy Buddy,” “Boi” and most recently “Next To You” — all before the release of the album. Each single charted and helped build momentum for Mike Jones, whose 50 million MySpace plays (25 million for “Next To You”) made him one of the biggest artists on Myspace over the last several months. In addition, “Next To You” reached Top 10 (#8) status on Billboard’s “Hot Rap Tracks” chart. The next single from The Voice is “Swagg Thru The Roof.”
In 2005, Mike Jones catapulted the Houston rap scene to the national spotlight with his single “Still Tippin’,” which also featured Paul Wall and Slim Thug and introduced Houston’s distinctive street life to a worldwide audience. Soon thereafter, Jones’ unassuming nature and humorous storytelling made his rags to riches cut “Back Then” one of the year’s most popular songs and propelled Jones’ debut album, Who Is Mike Jones?, to platinum success.
