MEMORY TAPES ANNOUNCES U.S. TOUR DATES ‘SEEK MAGIC’ OUT NOW

Memory Tapes is pleased to announce a handful of US tour dates in the midst of a worldwide tour. 26-year-old New Jersey resident and stay-at-home-recording-at-night dad, Dayve Hawk is the quietly spoken and extremely prolific man behind Memory Tapes.

Last year, Hawk released music under the names Memory Cassette and Weird Tapes for free, getting blanket praise from US blogs. From this attention, he got, and gets, a lot of remix jobs for the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Phoenix, Yeasayer, Gucci Mane, Britney Spears and um, Michael Jackson. All the excellent music from 2008 was then discarded by Dayve as “old news” and a new combined identity, Memory Tapes, was forged. In January of 2009 he started work on the album Seek Magic. The Horrors remixed the first track from these sessions, “Bicycle” which was released as a 12” in July. His reputation online grew and anticipation for the album has been astronomical. There hasn’t been a bad review yet.

Praise for Memory Tapes

“Seek Magic, a record of achingly gorgeous dance-pop that captures both the joy of nostalgia and the melancholic sense that we’re grasping for good times increasingly out of reach.” – Pitchfork [8.3 Best New Music]

“Dayve Hawk writes eerie, mysterious pop songs long on atmosphere and mood.” – Rolling Stone

“[Bicycle] is five minutes plus of spaced-out beats and soul-lifting choruses with several different amazing basslines and a New Ordery Morricone riff section thrown in for good measure” – NME
