MTV NAMES DEADMAU5 AS HOUSE ARTIST FOR THE “2010 MUSIC VIDEO AWARDS” AND “PUSH” ARTIST FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 16

MTV today announced that electronic music phenomenon, deadmau5, would serve as the house artist during the “2010 Video Music Awards,” and a “PUSH” artist, for the week of August 16th. This news comes on the heels of the announcement that Kanye West, Drake and Florence + The Machine will perform at this year’s show, which will also feature appearances by Nicki Minaj, Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Trey Songz, Selena Gomez and Ne-Yo. The “2010 MTV Video Music Awards” will air live from Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 9PM (Live ET/Tape delayed PT.) MTV will announce additional performers, presenters and host on a later date.

As the house artist, deadmau5 will serve as the musical maestro for the duration of the show and will create original remixes from a variety of artists including live musical guests. The Toronto native, deadmau5 AKA Joel Zimmerman, is one of the top ranked electronic music artists in the world. Earlier this year he headlined at Coachella Music & Arts Festival, Ultra Music Festival and LA’S Electronic Daisy Carnival, as well as made appearances at Sasquatch and Bonnaroo. His latest album For Lack Of A Better Name is available now on Ultra Records and will be releasing a new album this winter. Past house artists have included Travis Barker and DJ AM, Mark Ronson and Wale. The House DJ performance moments are sponsored for a 2nd year by VMA partner Taco Bell®, and it’s music program Feed The Beat®.

In addition to being named the house artist, MTV will feature DeadMau5 as its “PUSH” artist for the week of August 16. Each week, MTV selects a new ‘PUSH’ artist to spotlight. The artists and bands range from up-and-coming artists to more established acts. During an artist or band’s “PUSH” week, MTV uses its massive on-air and online reach to bring fans unparalled access to the week’s artist or band ranging from live performances, music videos, interviews and exclusive footage. Previous “PUSH” artists have included Jason Derulo ,Trey Songz, Drake , Phoenix , Florence and The Machine, and 2 AM Club.

Viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including “Best New Artist,” by visiting vma.mtv.com. In addition, text voting for “Best New Artist” is open to all wireless carrier subscribers by texting BNA to 97979. Voting continues through the show, live on September 12. Also, Verizon Wireless subscribers can vote in all categories by texting VMA to 97979 (standard message rates apply.)
