Set to join 18-City “Escape to Plastic Beach” Tour

New York, NY: Star Trak/Interscope artists N*E*R*D* will hit the road with Gorillaz on their “Escape to Plastic Beach Tour” beginning October 6th in Boston, MA (full routing below). In addition to N*E*R*D*, De La Soul, Little Dragon, and Bobby Womack will join the Gorillaz Plastic Beach band which features Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of the Clash as special guests.

PLEASE APPROVE QUOTE FROM PHARRELL- “We are all super excited to be on tour with Gorillaz,” said Pharrell Williams, “N*E*R*D* is all about expanding creatively and Gorillaz have been doing that for years. We are all huge fans and really admire their vision.”

N*E*R*D* are set to release Nothing, their fourth studio album this fall. The group came up with the title because according to N*E*R*D* front man Pharrell Williams “It’s like nothing you’ve ever heard.” Whereas their first album, In Search Of…, was an imaginative, exploration of identities, their second album, Fly Or Die, sought out the range of genres and sounds that have influenced the group, and their third album, Seeing Sounds, grinded everything together, Nothing promises to be an album that delivers a brand new N*E*R*D* sound, an album that amplifies the attitudes, style and persona that has made Pharrell, Chad and Shae the transcendent cultural icons they are today.

Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer Pharrell Williams is one of the most successful entertainers to emerge in the last decade. As part of the beat-making duo, the Neptunes, and the alternative rock trio, N*E*R*D*, Pharrell has helped A-List pop stars such as Justin Timberlake, Nelly, and Usher win Grammy awards and sell millions of albums. Pharrell partnered with Chad Hugo at a junior high band camp and they later formed the Neptunes. The duo caught the attention of Teddy Riley and landed work with SWV and Sean “Diddy” Combs who hired them to produce songs for Total and Mase. Their list of collaborators now includes Ol’ Dirty Bastard, No Doubt, Janet, Britney Spears, *NSYNC, TLC, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Kelis, Busta Rhymes, Babyface, Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake. In 2003, they took home the Grammy for Producer of the Year (Non-classical). Pharrell and Chad then teamed up with childhood friend Shay Haley to form N.E.R.D. The unit has released three critically acclaimed; platinum albums; 2001’sIn Search Of…, 2004’s Gold certified Fly or Die, and 2008’s Seeing Sounds which debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200, selling 80,000 units in its first week.
