Dagha premieres new track from upcoming EP, announce Lil Dap, Smoothe Da Hustler & Al Jabra collabos

Boston emcee Dagha has premiered a new track entitled WildFellow from his upcoming EP Noise Is The Trigger. The EP is to be released on October 20th and available at all major online retailers such as Amazon, ITunes and LastFM and pre-order is up now. Noise Is The Trigger is also the title of the duo Dagha formed with New York beatmaker Psych Major who produces all tracks on the EP. Known for his deep timbred voice and funky flow, Dagha’s vocals has graced tracks with the likes of Edan, Mr Lif, Insight and EDO.G. A leading proponent of “grown man rap” Dagha bared his soul to classic sounding east coast boom bap on his last album 2008’s The Divorce (Lewis Recordings). That album lyrically captured his tumultuous marriage and the dissolution of that union while not holding back on the real life decisions and mistakes he’s made.

On the Noise Is The Trigger EP the emcee continues to document his life as well as what he sees out of his window. Dagha comments “It’s a definite continuation of my themes on The Divorce, my life translates through my art. I think this EP forced me to dig a little deeper as I wrote to the vibe of the track and these were some different vibes than the material I have released in recent years.” Psych Major talks about the creative process “Dagha not only rips the mic but is a genuine and open minded artist. We’re both grown men trying to balance a life in music and real life responsibilities. I would create a beat and we would just talk about shit we deal with on the daily and it would end up front and center in his rhymes.”

Admittedly raw, Psych’s tracks balance lo-fi audio with aggression using discordant samples and live instrumentation recorded to 8 track. “My ambitions certainly exceed my equipment and my music theory knowledge.” Talking on the music Dagha adds “When I started in the 90’s I used to think the grittier the sound the better, things weren’t as digitized then. The beats on this project definitely brought me back on some dirty shit and collaborating with old school cats like Lil Dap and Smoothe Da Hustler brings it full circle for me.”

Dagha has paid his dues in this game after being in groups like Cloke & Dagha, Knights Of The Round Table (with Mr Lif and Insight) and The Electric Company (with Insight and Moe Pope). He has traveled the world with Edan performing live including tours with Public Enemy, De La Soul, Cut Chemist, Prefuse 73, Lyrics Born as well as appearances at All Tomorrow’s Parties and Coachella. Most recently Dagha won a national songwriting contest that was judged by legendary emcee, Daryl DMC McDaniels of Run DMC who flew to Boston to meet Dagha and build with him. In addition to his music resume, Dagha is also part of the America Scores non profit group where he teaches emceeing in various elementary schools as a new form of curriculum.

The artwork on the EP is provided by Kagan McLeod who illustrated the infamous “History of Rap” Poster as well as being a freelance illustrator for many national and international magazines. Kagan also provides original animation for the upcoming Noise Is The Trigger WildFellow video directed by his brother Sean McLeod.
