For “Ivy League Circus”

“New York’s best up-and-comer”

“A hard act to follow”

“The dude’s hook’s are insanely catchy”

Continuing the hot streak he’s been on all year producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Gordon Voidwell has hopped on tour with Mayer Hawthorne and just released the video for his single, “Ivy League Circus,” which is out now on Cantora Records. If you didn’t catch it when it premiered at Stereogum yesterday, click HERE to watch it (feel free to post and share!) On the track, Gordon’s velvety, 80’s R&B style vocals glide over an elastic, electro-funk groove. Lyrically, he employs his typical acid-tongued humor to address issues of class and status. The clip was directed by The Wilderness, who also helmed videos for Passion Pit, The Juan MacLean, Antipop Consortium, and Spank Rock. Gordon’s live band includes several other NY-up-and-comers including Tecla Esposito a.k.a. TECLA, 33Hz member Brion Isaacs, and Das Racist producer Kassa Overall.

Since dropping his The Voided Checks Mixtape for free last Fall, Gordon Voidwell has quickly been garnering acclaim for both his own material as well as the tracks he’s crafted for others. He has produced songs on both Das Racist mixtapes (“Shorty Said” and “Puerto Rican Cousins”), an official remix of Twin Shadow’s “I Can’t Wait,” and the track “Spring Fever” for battle rap king Iron Solomon. He’s also won the adorations of everyone from indie darlings BRAHMS (who remixed Voidwell’s “Ivy League Circus”) to pop music masterminds like Grammy-winning producer Mark Ronson (who declared “I love this shit. I play it on my radio show, in my house AND in my sets.”)

Ever the ambitious and creatively restless soul, Gordon also has several special events coming up in New York. He’ll be doing a two-night art/music/dance installment called “Who Killed Andy Warhol? Who Shot Biggie Smalls?” at the Apollo Theater on October 15th and 16th. The piece traces Gordon’s pop art influences from Warhol to No Wave to Hip Hop. He also has two holiday-themed shows coming up. After the Mater Hawthorne dates, Gordon returns to New York for the Voidwell Homecoming Dance at The Bell House (Thanksgiving weekend) and the Voidwell Holiday Party, which will be his last show of the year.
