LATIN FREESTYLE-INFLUENCED ADDITION TO ONGOING SERIES TO BE RELEASED DIGITALLY DECEMBER 13TH
Scion A/V demonstrates their expert musical foresight by teaming up with On the Prowl Records (headed by Jacques Renault and Marcos Cabral of Runaway) to return with another installment of gently reinterpreted HI-NRG/Freestyle from Bay Area native Corinne, dropping December 13th. On Scion A/V Remix: Corinne – “Dream A Little Dream”, one could understandably mistake the leading original for a single released two decades ago. Producer Josh Anzano crafts a sonic landscape that transports the listener to an early-’90s nightclub, near perfect dance montage material that Corinne adorns with vocals that conjure top-40 hits by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam or Exposè. It’s this adherence to authentic production and mixing techniques that make the subsequent remixes so interesting.
For their take, Belgian duo Mugwump darkens the skies over Corrine’s whimsical electro picnic with ominous pads while vocals remain at the forefront. Jacques Renault and Marcos Cabral come together as Runaway to enhance the pace with a catchy arpeggiator flip of the synth, and Brooklynite Midnight Magic lays down a slap bass line and punctuates it with faux-horns for his disco house effort that is only one-upped by Harkin & Raney’s NYC-centric, handclap-laden throwback.
