Downtown Records, the New York-based label known for the cutting edge where dance, pop, rock and electronic music collide, will be celebrating a half-decade of releases with two shows on March 4th and 5th in New York City. The Downtown Music Festival’s first event will take place at Webster Hall, featuring A-Trak, Art Brut, White Denim, Lissy Trullie, and The Suzan. The second night of festivities will take place at Terminal 5 with Miike Snow, Major Lazer, Santigold, DJ Mehdi, and So Me.
“Downtown is thrilled to celebrate our 5th anniversary with such an amazing roster of incredible artists,” said Josh Deutsch. Downtown Music LLC Chairman/CEO. “These innovative, genre-defying artists have each had an indelible imprint on Downtown’s culture, and we are honored to have them come together for 2 unprecedented nights of performances. As a distinctly New York brand, across all of our businesses, Downtown is deeply committed to our New York City community and we are extremely pleased to be working with Caroline Kennedy and The Fund For Public Schools to raise funding and awareness for its important initiatives.”
To help celebrate these events, Helmut Lang and Rag & Bone will be contributing exclusive Downtown Records merchandise to be purchased at each event. Limited quantities will be available. A portion of the proceeds of the Festival will benefit The Fund For Public Schools, with whom Downtown is working to create awareness for New York City’s first-ever public school alumni organization, Alumni for Public Schools. This organization is building a community of public school alumni and friends who are dedicated to supporting critical literacy initiatives in our schools
“The Downtown Music festival and the generosity of its artists and sponsors – some of whom are public school alumni – will help us give thousands of New York City students the opportunity to learn to love reading,” said Caroline Kennedy, Vice-Chair of The Fund for Public Schools. “This is a great example of the arts and business communities coming together to support our city’s public school students.”
Downtown Music LLC operates a label, a publishing/licensing group, RCRDLBL.com, Songtrust.com, Downtown Music Studios as well as joint venture partnerships with Dim Mak, Fool’s Gold and Mad Decent Records. The label roster includes Gnarls Barkley, Cold War Kids, Justice, Santigold, Miike Snow, David Gray, Major Lazer, Scissor Sisters, Carla Bruni, Mos Def and others.
