DECON ANNOUNCES DJ BABU CURATED SXSW MIXTAPE AND SHOWCASE LINEUP

FREE MIXTAPE TO PREVIEW LINEUP FOR THE DECON NEVER NOT FRESH SHOWCASE

The venerated DJ Babu, best known for his tenure as one-third of the hip hop crew Dilated Peoples, will be curating a new mixtape to preview this year’s Decon Never Not Fresh showcase at SXSW, featuring bangers from the musical innovators whose abilities will be on display at the event. Teaming up with event sponsor HipHopDX, the mixtape will be available for free download from both the Decon and HipHopDX websites Monday, March 14th.

Headlining the Decon Never Not Fresh showcase is Freddie Gibbs, the revered MC who has gained worldwide attention following features in Spin, Fader, Rolling Stone and as one of the cover stars XXL Magazine’s 2010 Freshman Top Ten issue. Co-headlining the event is Alchemist & Oh No’s collaborative venture Gangrene, fresh off their successful EU tour supporting last year’s headswimmingly dense Gutter Water album.

Aceyalone will appear to perform a set of both his and Freestyle Fellowship’s music, previewing material from their upcoming release (slated for spring/summer on Decon). Aside from Babu, who will be DJing at the event, fellow Dilated Peoples member Rakaa, hot off his solo debut Crown of Thorns last year, will be in tow to offer a set of scorchers from his backcatalog. Additionally, with the new album Hand Shakes & Middle Fingers set for release on April 12, Classified and fellow Juno nominee Shad, whose album TSOL was a 2010 critical highlight, will be lending their Canadian perspective to the proceedings. Capping off the lineup is new Decon signee Roc Marciano. Full showcase lineup can be found below.
