DESSA GEARS UP TO HEADLINE THE UPCOMING “INTO THE SPIN” TOUR WITH FELLOW DOOMTREE MEMBERS SIMS AND LAZERBEAK – CONFIRMED SHOWS BELOW
In late April, Dessa will set off on her very first headlining tour. 2010 was a big year for Dessa: her debut full-length A Badly Broken Code made a handful of Billboard charts, spent months on the CMJ charts, appeared on year-end lists across the country, and was listed as an album deserving of a Grammy nomination by publications including the Chicago Tribune and the Seattle Times.
At home in Minneapolis, Dessa assembled a talented cast of live players to perform with her. On the Into The Spin tour, she’ll take her ensemble on the road for the first time. Stand-up bassist Sean McPherson will lead the group, transforming her live set into a wry, intimate cabaret with Dessa at center stage.
Sims & Lazerbeak will join Dessa on the road as well. Doomtree released Sims’ Bad Time Zoo (produced entirely by Lazebeak) in February. It’s currently at the top of the CMJ hip hop charts and earning accolades all over.

“Dessa sings, raps, rolls out rhymes like an accomplished poetry-slam veteran, thinks like the former philosophy student and published author she is, and commands the stage with the expressiveness of a performance artist.” – Chicago Tribune
“A one-woman powerhouse…with a literary sensibility and an aversion to genre clichés” Utne Reader
“Dessa has emerged as one of the most diverse and talented artists in indie rap.” URB
“Dessa is a fluent lyricist…She recalls an old-fashioned high-quality singer-songwriter like Joni Mitchell or Rosanne Cash…but because she’s a hip-hopper she’s also not above bragging a little. She’s got a right.” NPR
