PAID DUES INDEPENDENT HIP HOP FESTIVAL 2012 Saturday, April 7 at Southern California’s NOS Events Center Initial Line-Up Includes Headliners Wu-Tang Clan and Odd Future

The PAID DUES INDEPENDENT HIP HOP FESTIVAL–presented by MURS (Living Legends) in association with Guerilla Union (Rock The Bells, Cypress Hill SmokeOut)–returns to Southern California for its seventh installment on Saturday, April 7, 2011 to the NOS Events Center as an all-day, all-ages event with multiple stages highlighting the most eminent and flourishing independent artists in hip hop. Set to headline this year’s festival is Staten Island’s legendary hip hop crew Wu-Tang Clan and Los Angeles’ 2011 breakthrough collective Odd Future. Additional artists performing over three stages will be announced shortly.

“I am honored this year to have two of the most impactful hip hop collectives in history headline this year’s Paid Dues,” notes festival founder and independent hip hop pioneer MURS. “Wu Tang entered the game in the early 90’s and changed everything. And Odd Future has already made an enormous impression in their own right and just a few years in. To have these two dynamic forces on the same stage on the same night is almost unimaginable but only right that it take place at Paid Dues. This and so much more to be announced in the upcoming weeks has me really looking forward to our 7th year of Paid Dues.”

Chang Weisberg, Guerilla Union head, adds: “This year’s Paid Dues will be historic. Getting Wu-Tang Clan and Odd Future on the same stage for the first time is an epic billing. Add to that, having some of the greatest crews in Hip Hop on one stage is crazy. This will be our biggest, most ambitious Paid Dues ever.”

The Guerilla Union ticket pre-sale will begin on Wednesday, December 14 at 10:00am PST via Tickets will be available to the general public starting Saturday, December 17 at 10am PST.

In 2006 the first PAID DUES festival–with a line-up featuring Felt, Aesop Rock, Living Legends, El-P, Hangar 18 and more–sold out with over 5,000 concert goers packing the Shrine Expo Center in Los Angeles. The following year MURS and Guerilla Union, along with performers Felt, Living Legends, Sage Francis, Brother Ali and others–teamed up again for the PAID DUES festival tour for over ten dates across the country. In 2008, the sold-out Southern California event featured artists such as Sage Francis, Little Brother, and Hieroglyphics. 2008 also saw the festival make stops in New York, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Denver, CO and San Francisco, CA.

PAID DUES celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2010 with a sold out show, where for the first time in its history, the landmark event expanded to multiple stages. The all ages show featured performances by Ice Cube, Murs and 9th Wonder, Tha Dogg Pound, Dilated Peoples and reunited special guests, Freestyle Fellowship. 2009 marked the festival’s largest show to date with over 7,000 attendees featuring artists such as Atmosphere, Tech N9ne, Living Legends, Eyedea and Abilities and Brother Ali. The 2011 installment of the festival featured headliners Mos Def and Talib Kweli as Black Star, performing under the Black Star name for the first time in years as well as social and politically charged lyricist and activist Immortal Technique.
