This edgy new video from the new collaboration called SexyTime was given Jay-Z’s stamp of approval when his site Life + Times premiered it this Wednesday. The video features MiMOSA and Sleepyhead, the two masterminds behind this new project in a night of debauchery that quickly spirals out of control. The video is reflective of the life of a young touring DJ, and the recklessness and confusion that can go along with it. The video has already gotten more than 4,000 views in less than 24 hours after premiering, and this number is only expected to grow. Their debut EP “Naked Poetry” is set for release April 20, 2012 on False Idol Musik.

SexyTime will be playing two EP release events on April 19 and April 20 in Colorado. They will also be playing an EP release event in New York City on May 17.

April 19 – Cervantes – Denver, CO
April 20 – Abbey Theater – Durango, CO
May 17 – WIP – New York, NY

“…a collaboration project called SexyTime featuring producer / DJs MiMOSA and Sleepyhead. This is far from MiMOSA’s hard hitting dubstep, but a venture into the sexy more melodic side. It sounds like a funny word, but after listening, you’ll get it. It’s got very deep smooth bass sounds, not meant to be listened to on laptop speakers.”

The two artists behind the new collaboration cheekily entitled SexyTime, are no naive kids. From the West Coast we have electronic guru MiMOSA, and from Brooklyn is Trouble & Bass affiliate Sleepyhead. The two artists behind this collaboration are friends who have shared a long path, brimming with experiences, that have lead them to this combination of their creative voices.

Both MiMOSA and Sleepyhead bring not only the maturity of seasoning with them, but also the sense of rhythm and intonation that is unique to each artist. This is no hard-hitting dance floor album full of banging club beats. It is deeper, more meaningful, dripping with class and soul; with layers of sound intertwining impeccably. Its atmospheric energy employs mostly original samples, with synthesizer heavy modulation and spacey textures.

The blurry, dream-like quality of SexyTime is a surreal meander into the experiences of youth. The girls, the parties, the music, and most importantly what you take away from it when you wake up in the morning. The marked lack of aggressive basslines and obvious drops is a clear nod to the more ambient musical qualities that evoke sentiment in all of us. These more mellow tendencies are even soothing, reminding us of the healing power of music.
