ATMOSPHERE ANNOUNCE “THE FAMILY TOUR”
GROUP TO PLAY LARGEST NORTH AMERICAN VENUES TO DATE WITH BLUEPRINT, GRIEVES WITH BUDO, SAB THE ARTIST & DJ ABILITIES
This April Atmosphere will embark on a 21-date US and Canadian tour in support of their forthcoming release on Rhymesayers, The Family Sign. The duo of Slug and Ant will be accompanied by keyboardist Erick Anderson and guitarist Nate Collis as well as label-mates Blueprint, Grieves with Budo, Sab The Artist & DJ Abilities. A notable stop of the excursion (and the group’s largest headlining performance to date) will take place at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA and will include the addition of Aesop Rock with Rob Sonic & DJ Big Wiz.
Rigorous touring has proven an integral spoke in the Rhymesayers wheel, allowing the label’s artists to connect with their fan-base with unprecedented intimacy since it’s inception in 1995. Atmosphere returns to even larger audiences with every tour, and has cast the mold for independent labels in the 21st century. After the tidal wave of forward-thinking hip-hop crashed upon the shores of the popular consciousness in the early 2000s, few labels have weathered the receding tide, let alone thrived in it’s wake as the Rhymesayers camp has. To honor their devoted audience, a limited number of fan pre-sale tickets will be available at 3:00PM Wednesday, February 16th through Artist Arena prior to going on sale nationally Friday, February 18th. Details regarding presale availability will be announced through the group’s social networks.

ATMOSPHERE TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM THE FAMILY SIGN ON RHYMESAYERS APRIL 12th
Atmosphere, the preeminent independent hip-hop duo comprised MC Slug and producer Ant, reassert their status as legends of the genre with the release of their most realized, streamlined effort to date, The Family Sign, due April 12th on Rhymesayers Entertainment. Slug and Ant have distinguished themselves from their peers by composing albums encompassing the entire spectrum of human emotion while tethering each piece to a central aural aesthetic. The Family Sign takes this philosophy to new realms of solidarity with Slug metaphorically touching on themes of fatherhood, loss, love, disappointment and jubilation and tailoring them to the instrumental frame work provided by Ant as well as keyboardist Erick Anderson and guitarist Nate Collis. Lyrically, The Family Sign is evidence that hip-hop wields the ultimate potential to discuss life’s virtues and shortcomings.
The Rhymesayers camp, and Atmosphere in particular, have emerged as an industry anomaly, selling over two hundred thousand copies of 2008’s When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, an accomplishment for any artist. Iconic pioneers of the new music industry model, Atmosphere regularly sell out strings of shows between albums and their 2011 itinerary is slated to include venues with capacities upwards of nine thousand. Performances of this size are, simply put, an unparalleled precedent for an independent artist. Atmosphere have steadily looked forward and continued to retain a tremendous fan-base, finding favor in new, young listeners while their peers are mired in nostalgia and stagnancy.
Slug and Ant have united a body of devoted fans that religiously subscribe to the idea that creativity, as a microcosm for life in general, is a give and take, counterbalanced and anchored by appreciation for ones friends, family, and audience. This philosophy is what The Family Sign embodies, and it’s the key to the tremendous legacy that Atmosphere continues to establish.
“Slug has matured into one of hip-hops best performers … Slug might sing about being scared of success but it hasn’t stopped him from achieving it.” – LOS ANGELES TIMES
“With passionate inflection and pristine delivery, Slug toggles neatly among the poetic, preachy, and provocative, sometimes hitting all at once.” – ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
“A guy this talented deserves to achieve his goal to ‘build a home outta syllables.'” - SPIN
“In this era of the hip hop anti-hero, there’s no more unlikely candidate for universal stardom in the rap game than a gangly kid from Minneapolis.” -XLR8R
“One can feel Atmosphere loosening modern hip-hop from its moorings and yanking it into some weirder and far more interesting place.” -ROLLING STONE
“With a mix of introspection, sarcasm and passion – when slug raps it sounds as if he is forcing sweat from his eyes – Atmosphere has never sounded as pointed and focused” -BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
Atmosphere just put out this posse cut featuring everyone joining them on the upcoming “Welcome To Minnesota” tour. They’re playing 5 shows in as many days, all within their home state (dates below).

TMOSPHERE ANNOUNCE DATES: TO ALL MY FRIENDS TOUR
BLUEPRINT, GRIEVES, BUDO, AND DJ RARE GROOVE JOIN IN ON THE FUN
Atmosphere, the most prolific group in independent rap, has announced plans to tour the US with Rhymesayers label-mates Blueprint, Grieves & Budo, and DJ Rare Groove. The tour, which stretches 23 performances across the month of September into the beginning of October, will stoke anticipation for Blueprint’s upcoming release while introducing audiences to recent signees Grieves & Budo, who are also slated to release an album in the near future.
Since it’s inception in 1995, Rhymesayers Entertainment has fostered one of the most inventive and organic musical communities in the country. Atmosphere formed in 1995 when a mutual friend introduced Sean Daley, who MCs as Slug, to producer Ant. The two set to work and have since built an inland empire, selling hundreds of thousands of records independently and forging a new model for the post-millennial music business. Relentless tour schedules across five continents have gained them notoriety in industry circles and have proven to be their most effective promotional asset.
An Atmosphere show is a passionate, whole-hearted immersion into hip-hop idealism that’s complimented by a full live band. Slug is known to deliver lyrics with unbridled energy over deafening drums, alternately emoting over lost love and calling out those that would detract him for doing so. Blueprint is a welcome companion for this tour, armed with a bevy of new material that’s certain to expose audiences to an unfamiliar facet of his character. Grieves & Budo, with the last three years spent on the road and their recent appearances at SXSW, Soundset, and Bamboozle, round out the bill.
“This Minneapolis indie rap hero [Slug] has potential to spare, delivering taut, complex rhyme narratives with everyman earnestness.” – Rolling Stone
“Print’s fresh take on the relatively common ghetto life theme is a powerful example of his wordplay capabilities.” – Pitchfork
“Grieves’s disarming charisma and flow float his signature new-jack emo swag: self-image, self-abuse, relationships, family-it’s all there, just far better executed than the hordes of bedroom MCs/producers who pose as fans these days.” – The Stranger

SLUG AND MURS ANNOUNCE THE THIRD INSTALLMENT OF THEIR FELT SERIES ALBUM PRODUCED BY AESOP ROCK AND IS A TRIBUTE TO ROSIE PEREZ
B-List actresses be warned and flattered because FELT is back! Slug (Atmosphere) and Murs (Living Legends) reunite for their third release from moniker FELT. These MCs teamed up with The Grouch (Living Legends) in 2002 to release FELT’s debut album A Tribute to Christina Ricci. Collaborating with producer Ant (Atmosphere) in 2005 resulted in their second coming, A Tribute to Lisa Bonet. With the fresh addition of Aesop Rock (Def Jux) on production and unwavering love for those forgotten actresses who warmed their hearts, Slug and Murs are pleased to present FELT 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez (Rhymesayers Entertainment).
Check out this teaser track off of the upcoming Felt record. Felt is a collaborative project between Slug and Murs. The last two records were LP-length tributes to Christina Ricci and Lisa Bonet (from the Cosby show) respectively. I’ll leave it up to you to figure out who this record is going to be dedicated to.
