David Banner To Appear At Harvard University For The LA Riots:Twenty Years Later

DAVID BANNER TO APPEAR AT HARVARD UNIVERSITY FOR THE LA RIOTS: TWENTY YEARS LATER CONFERENCE

FROM RODNEY KING TO TRAYVON MARTIN, BANNER SPEAKS ON HOW HAS AMERICA CHANGED IN 20 YEARS

Grammy award winning rapper/producer David Banner will appear at The LA Riots: Twenty Years Later Conference taking place on April 27 & 28 at Harvard University. The conference brings together leading scholars, activists and artists to look back at –and forward from- the LA Riots. It will combine a critical retrospective examination of the uprising with reflections on democracy and inequity today, a time of economic crisis and revolution in much of the world.

Banner who has been very out spoken about the recent murder of Trayvon Martin and lives lost in the Tulsa, OK shooting, will be joined by Henry Louis Gates Jr. along with other panelists from Harvard University, NYU, Temple University and more, to address attendees in the TSAI Auditorium about the state of the black community seen through his eyes. Banner has appeared on BET 106 & Park and BlackEnterprise.com voicing his opinion on the safety of black youth and the community, imploring that there be some kind of legislation along with other solutions to help keep African Americans safe in the United States.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to speak at Harvard…it is vital that we talk about what we can do to better ourselves and our communities; now and for the next 20 years. The people of America, especially our youth, have the power to be heard; to change legislation and positively impact our culture for generations to come.”

Banner is currently gearing up to introduce the world to a revolutionary new concept in urban culture called the 2M1 Movement. On May 22, he will release his new project, Sex, Drugs and Video Games (which was solely funded by Banner) for free via www.livemixtapes.com and www.davidbanner.com. In exchange, Banner is asking two million people to donate a minimum of $1. With these proceeds Banner is going to consistently deliver music, videos, movies and charitable donations to positively influence urban culture.

David Banner & 9th Wonder Announce Release Date for Joint Album Death Of A Pop Star To Be Released on November 9th via Banner’s Own Big Face Entertainment

The Album:

After months of talking about their much buzzed-about concept album, Grammy winners David Banner and 9th Wonder are excited to announce a release date of November 9th for Death Of A Pop Star. The album will be released through Banner’s own Big Face Entertainment. The seemingly unlikely partnership grew legs when the two Southern boys discovered they shared a lot in common, including misconceptions due to their fame about how they hold the power to resurrect hip-hop music. ?There’s a lot of pressure because people think we have all the money and the answers,? explained Banner in a recent interview with AllHipHop.com.

Formerly intended as a mixtape, the project developed into a full-length album as Banner and 9th realized the significance of Death Of A Pop Star. ?David Banner and I both share the same views on topics such as manhood, being black in America in present day, and the state of black music in general,” says 9th of the collaboration. In a recent HipHopOfficial.com interview Banner says that most people think the album title refers to the death of being a pop star but he insists they chose the title so they could not only talk about the album but also the death of contemporary music. 9th Wonder further articulated, “We’re talking about the death of contemporary black music.”

Following the release of the first song ?Slow Down? the album’s next single will feature fellow Southerner, Ludacris, on a song entitled, ?Be With You.? Other guest spots on the project include Heather Victoria and Big Remo.

Death Of A Pop Star drops November 9th, 2010.

The Background:

9th Wonder has a history of teaming with legendary emcees and crafting dream projects that have resulted in both critical and commercial success. A producer from North Carolina, 9th Wonder started his career as the main producer for the hip-hop group, Little Brother. Leaving Little Brother after their second album together, The Minstrel Show, 9th Wonder has since become a producer and emcee in his own right. Working with MURS, Nas, Beyonce, Jay-Z and more, 9th Wonder has made a name for himself in the hip-hop world. Also known as his rapper alterego, 9thmatic, 9th Wonder is a modern-day hip-hop renaissance man. Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, David Banner has made a name for himself on the hip-hop scene since 2000. Since then, he has released four studio albums and even became a celebrated producer like producing smash hits like T.I.’s “Rubberband Man,” and having smash hits of his own like “Get Like Me”. David Banner’s most recent successes include writing, producing, and arranging (with guidance from Jimmy Smith and The G Team at Chalt Day) the new non-hip hop Gatorade theme song “Evolve,” performed by Kermit Quinn. Teaming up with 9th Wonder may seem like an unusual collaboration but as the two talented artists come together, their initial album will leave a deep impression on fans. Death of A Pop Star drops summer 2010 via David Banner’s own Big Face Entertainment.
