And with a busy year still ahead, including upcoming releases from Eddie B & Harry Fraud, Illogic & Blockhead, Roc Marciano, and others, label founder R.M.L. is first excited to release MBDR Volume 2, out today and available for free download via the label’s SoundCloud.

And while the label could have easily released this project through retail, label founder R.M.L. is instead offering the project for free download as a thank you to the label’s supportive fans. “In this climate, anyone can download music illegally,” remarks R.M.L., “so I wanted to reward our fans that do the right thing and pay to support our records.”

As a follow-up to MBDR Volume 1, released a few years back, Volume 2, which was mixed and mastered at Royal Crown Studios offers fans an updated look at the label’s talented roster. “I think this is a good introduction to some of the new faces on the label, both emcees and producers,” explains R.M.L. “For fans, it’s a nice warm welcome to what makes Man Bites Dog Records special.”

The Background:

Passionate about music and with an ear for discovering great talent, RML formed Man Bites Dog Records in 2005 in Northern Virginia, a few short miles from Washington DC. In an area dominated by GoGo Music, it was the goal of MBDR to offer an avenue for local hip-hop talent. The label quickly grew beyond the confines of the local scene, however, as MBDR began to release project from the likes of Copywrite, Vast Aire, and others. Since then, it has been MBDR’s goal to sign artists who create classic music – music that stands the test of time – in genres ranging from underground New York hip-hop to funky pop. Currently, MBDR’s roster includes Killah Priest, Copywrite, Vast Aire, MHz Legacy, Jakki da Motamouth, Stu Bangas & Vanderslice, Esoteric, Wais P, Bronze Nazareth, Crimison Gods, Kount Fif, Empuls, Last Bison, Jason Rose, Brink, Red Mud, Sinista Daniro, Dom, Jay Notes, and The Swashbuckler.

The Presets “Promises” Remixed By Nils Frahm

The latest version of The Presets’ “Promises”, remixed by Berlin-based composer/producer Nils Frahm, premiered today on WNYC Soundcheck, stream it here (please post and share). Nils Frahm is celebrated for his unconventional approach to classical piano, which has won him fans around the world including Thom Yorke who featured one of his songs on Radiohead’s HQ office chart. Nils re-imagines The Presets’ “Promises”, setting his neoclassical slant on the track. It’s a full circle moment for The Presets who are both classically trained musicians.

The Presets release a remix bundle of the “Promises” single tomorrow (Tuesday, December 4). The bundle includes remixes by Australian ex-pat Plastic Plates, Finland’s Luomo, France’s Lifelike, and the above neo-classical reworking by German composer Nils Frahm.

“Promises” is the second official single from The Presets’ acclaimed third album Pacifica. In Australia Pacifica debuted at #3 on the charts (and #2 on iTunes) and has been nominated for national radio station Triple J’s Australian Album of the Year (announced November 23).

Praise for Pacifica

“From word one to the closing synth note signifying The End, Pacifica is a literary and musical sensation worthy of true scholarly attention.”
– Consequence of Sound

“One of the best things to happen to modern music.” – LA Music Blog

Pacifica sees The Presets boldly venture into new, uncharted musical territories. Traversing both light and shade in energy and emotion, the album was produced by the band – Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes – and mixed in Los Angeles with Tony Hoffer.

In Australia, initial critical acclaim for Pacifica is nothing short of staggering, debuting at #3 on the Australian charts (and peaking at #2 on the iTunes charts):

“One of the year’s most exciting, mainstream-shaking statements.”
****½ Herald Sun
“The list of things the Presets can’t do is getting smaller by the day; the tally of successes, on the other hand, keeps expanding.”
**** Sydney Morning Herald
“Pacifica is a deceptively deep, rich surprise package.”
**** Rolling Stone (Australia)
“An album of the year contender.” Daily Telegraph

The Presets’ ‘PACIFICA’ is available in the US via Casablanca Records
