Renowned Hiero Imperium Records Ready To Extend Legacy In 2010 2010 Will See Releases from Tajai, Chosen Few, Opio, Pep Love, Casual, And Others

Critical Praise for Montezuma’s Revenge:

“…this has the makings of a brand new classic set to shake things up all over again. 9/10” – RapReviews.com

“…Souls Of Mischief’s Montezuma’s Revenge is a solid testament to their staying power, and also should be used as a blueprint for up-and-coming groups that strive for longevity—because learning from a collective that’s been doing it since “93” isn’t a bad studying block to start from.” – ihiphop.com

(January 22, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY) 2009 may not yet be a distant memory, but Hiero Imperium Records is already looking to the future with their energetic plans for the new year. The Oakland based label is poised to be at the forefront of underground hip-hop in 2010 with releases from Tajai, Chosen Few, Opio, Pep Love, Casual, and more.

Hiero Imperium Records triumphed in 2009 with the celebrated album, Montezuma’s Revenge from West Coast legends, Souls of Mischief. The album, lauded by both fans and critics alike, not only cemented Souls of Mischief’s stature in the hip-hop community but also sparked off a string of successful global tour dates. Fans were also enthusiastic to show their love for the Soul’s legacy, as a ’93 Til Infinity’ inspired tee shirt made in conjunction with streetwear staple Adapt sold out within 24 hours of its release. Eager to build upon its hip-hop hot streak, Hiero is now gearing up for an equally successful 2010 with an extensive slate of offerings from its famed roster.

The new year kicks off with music from trio Chosen Few, who will dropping the Opio laced single “Elevation” on February 9th, followed by the release of their debut album New World Symphony on April 6th. Fans will be excited to learn that the Opio extravaganza continues with the summer release of his highly anticipated album, Vulture’s Wisdom Volume 2, sure to extend the emcee’s linguistic legacy. Label-mate Pep Love plans on keeping busy in 2010 with a one-two sonic combo in form of pre-album project, The Rigamarole, and full-length album, Reconstruction, while Phesto Dee readies the release of his long-awaited Background Check for the masses.

Also on deck for Hiero is a new Casual project and a release from Tajai, who plans on dropping Rap Noir by years end. Not content to rest on their lyrical laurels, the label is also looking to unite its hip-hop superpowers and put out a Heiro-crew album, and, to top it all off, Tajai promises that more surprises are soon-to-come courtesy of the mighty Souls of Mischief. “2009 was a fantastic year, and we’re thankful for that,” explains Tajai. “There’s plenty more goodness to come in 2010 from the legendary Hiero Imperium Records.”

Video: Capcom Enlists Legendary Hieroglyphics Crew for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Soundtrack Song & Video Tajai, Casual, Pep Love Featured In Video For “Battle Drum”

The Video:

For too long gamers have been bludgeoned by grating, repetitive game soundtracks. Capcom has answered their prayers and exceeded expectations by assembling the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Hip Hop Mixtape. The lead video from the Mixtape- “Battle Drum”- is provided by legendary Oakland hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics. Directed by Andrew Georgopolous and Paul Trillo, the video pays tribute to Capcom’s rich history in the gaming industry by evoking classic Street Fighter imagery, as the rapping protagonists take down henchmen in a variety of settings, including a junkyard and a dojo. Tajai was thrilled with the video- “it’s got some live action and mimics the video game itself. It’s not just us rapping, it puts us inside the game.” Tajai says that the action was so intense, in fact, that “we had to tone it down for the final cut because it was too violent. We were really fighting behind the scenes.” The track was produced by Domino, and features verses by Tajai, Casual, and Pep Love. With a catchy chorus, belted out powerfully by Tajai (“Hands, feet, ‘bo’s, teeth, knees. Even the words I speak cut deep.”), there can be no doubt that “Battle Drum” was perfectly crafted for a fighting game like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The song, with its infectious chorus and pugilistic verses, will be instrumental in motivating gamers to crush their opponents. The video features cameos by Hieroglyphics members Del The Funky Homosapien, A- Plus (and his son, who features at the beginning of the video), and Phesto, as well as Capcom’s own John Diamonon.

SUPER PRODUCER JAKE ONE SIGNS TO RHYMESAYERS TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM! FEATURING APPEARANCES FROM FREEWAY, BROTHER ALI, MF DOOM, YOUNG BUCK, SLUG of ATMOSPHERE, M.O.P., BUSTA RHYMES, LITTLE BROTHER, PRODIGY, ALCHEMIST, CASUAL, KEAK DA SNEAK & MORE!

Over the past 13 years, Rhymesayers Entertainment has brought critically acclaimed artists such as Atmosphere, Brother Ali, MF DOOM, Soul Position, P.O.S., Psalm One, Eyedea & Abilities, Grayskul & more to the the attention of the world and in 2008, Rhymesayers gives you the debut album, White Van Music, from Seattle hip hop producer, Jake One.

To many, Jake One is known as part of the G-Unit production team that has been a part of their top 10 Billboard charting and platinum success. But Jake One has an equally important voice in the underground hip-hop scene and for many, will serve as the bridge between the mainstream and indie worlds. Taking a cue from Vitamin D in 1992, Jake One put down his first beat on a Casio Voice Sampler and got his official start at Conception Records in the late 90s, citing DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, Pete Rock & DJ Quik as his early influences. Jake One made his name doing production work with artists like the Gift of Gab, Boom Bap Project & John Cena (yes, the pro-wrestler!) and went on to solidify his presence in mainstream hip-hop, appearing on albums by De La Soul, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Young Buck, E-40, G-Unit & Lil Scrappy, among others.

White Van Music (October 2008) marks Jake One’s first foray into producing a complete album in his well reputed style. The self-proclaimed ‘perfect beat writer’ and master record collector has put some of the most recognizable voices in hip- hop against a glitchy & soulful musical backdrop. Reading like a who’s who of hip-hop, White Van Music features appearances from Freeway, M.O.P., Slug, MF DOOM, Brother Ali, Busta Rhymes, Young Buck, Prodigy, Alchemist, Casual, Keak Da Sneak, Little Brother, Evidence, eLZhi, Royce Da 5’9″, Posdnuos, Black Milk, Nottz, Bishop Lamont, Ish (aka Butterfly of Digable Planets) and more.
