Chromeo to launch collection with Frank & Oak

DAVE 1 OF CHROMEO TO LAUNCH COLLECTION WITH FRANK & OAK

MENSWEAR BRAND AND E-TAILER FRANK AND OAK HAS ANNOUNCED A NEW COLLABORATION WITH DAVE 1 OF PROMINENT ELECTRO-FUNK DUO CHROMEO. TOGETHER, THEY’LL RELEASE A CAPSULE COLLECTION OF ELEGANT ESSENTIALS MAY 21.

“I had never designed a capsule collection before, and when Frank & Oak approached me, there were three reasons why I couldn’t refuse,” David Macklovitch (aka Dave 1) explained. “First, they’re a brand from my hometown of Montreal. Second, their background is traditional men’s tailoring. And lastly, they’re accessible and democratic.

“The inspiration here was the disheveled elegance of the South of France: the Stones recording Exile at Nellcôte, manly gents who aren’t afraid to pose next to a bouquet of flowers, the morning after a wedding…” Macklovitch said. “I like to think of it as a complete wardrobe: essential pieces that can all be effortlessly combined.”

The 18-piece collection-imbued with midnight blues, whites, and olives-blends Dave 1’s raw rock & roll aesthetic with Frank & Oak’s classic and minimal approach to design. The faded, low-cut tees ($30), minimal button-ups ($65), crisp white jeans ($75), and bold summer blazers (starting at $155), are all impeccably tailored with extra-skinny silhouettes (echoing Dave 1’s personal style).

“After meeting Dave and looking at his music and his personal aesthetic, I knew he shared Frank & Oak’s values and modern design philosophy,” said Frank & Oak co-founder and creative director Ethan Song. “This collaboration has worked so well because we’re aligned creatively, but we also both have something unique to bring to the table.”

To celebrate the collaboration, Frank & Oak will host an official launch party on May 15 in New York City. From April 29 – May 10, fans can enter to win a trip to meet Dave 1 at the NYC event at www.frankandoak.com/dave1/nyc.

The Frank & Oak x Dave 1 collection launches May 21, available exclusively through frankandoak.com

HARD ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL AT THE FORUM IN LOS ANGELES

HARD ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL AT THE FORUM IN LOS ANGELES

August 8th, 2009 HARD SUMMER TO INCLUDE UNDERWORLD, CHROMEO, CROOKERS, CRYSTAL CASTLES, A-TRAK, TIGA, THE BLOODY BEETROOTS, SEBASTIAN, BUSY P, AMANDA BLANK, AND MORE

www.hardfest.com

Good news for California’s work-weary and party-deprived: the dance music masterminds behind HARD New Year’s Eve and the sold out HARD Haunted Mansion will return to Los Angeles with their signature mega-party this summer.

British music stalwarts Underworld will transform the 15,000-capacity LA Forum into the world’s largest dance club. Enlisted to aid HARD’s party-starting cause: Canadian electro-funk duo and talk-box enthusiasts Chromeo, preeminent Italian superstars Crookers, lo-fi mutineers Crystal Castles, and electro-hop wunderkind A-trak. Currently slated to join them are the likes of Tiga, The Bloody Beetroots, Sebastian, Busy P, Amanda Blank, Steve Aoki, Rye Rye, Skeet Skeet, Sinden, Jack Beats, Destructo, Dan Oh and 12th Planet.

2009’s HARD Summer lineup speaks to the broad, multi-faceted appeal that has made HARD’s events so successful. Veterans Underworld opened electronic music’s floodgates with their daring mega-hit “Born Slippy .NUXX” (UK #2) and its pivotal role in the film Trainspotting. The duo earned the respect of critics and fans with their unforgettable, accomplished performances and ever-evolving style. The slick synth-pop of Chromeo jostles up against the arty bit-crushed productions of Crystal Castles and the high-tech eclecticism of Tiga. Fans will revel at the multi-media electro-punk of HARD all-stars Crookers and The Bloody Beetroots.

This year the HARD creative team builds on the immense success of last year’s HARD Summer Music Festival which attracted over 7,000 revelers to party with N*E*R*D and MSTRKRFT, and was hailed as “the party of the year” by URB.com. With every event they put on, HARD enhances its reputation as a powerhouse, and this summer’s party is sure to raise the bar again. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at Groovetickets and Ticketmaster.

Chromeo Premieres Fancy Footwork Video, Announces West Coast July Tour And Shuts Down Every North American Festival This Summer!

Chromeo Premieres Fancy Footwork Video, Announces West Coast July Tour And Shuts Down Every North American Festival This Summer!

Giant, menacing legs? A David Lynch floor? A spectacular tango dance? P-Thugg wearing a tuxedo? Sounds like a new Chromeo video! Check out the curiously elegant clip for Fancy Footwork, premiered exclusively on Myspace this week (with a great first media look from Perez Hilton!)

Straight from their searing Coachella performance, P-Thugg and Dave 1, better known as Chromeo gear up to take on the summer festival circuit, announce their own summer tour of the West Coast and prepare to take to the outdoor stage for a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on June 17th.

“Coachella was winding down. Then an odd chant, coming from the last tent: ‘Chro-MEE-oh, OOOOOOoooo,’ followed by a blast of light that revealed a solid third of festival populationŠ Dave 1 and P-Thugg blasted their Prince-biting electrofunk to the metal rafters, earning their billing for the night, and leaving no question that they weren’t just fluffers for the act to follow.”
-LA WEEKLY ON CHROMEO’S 2008 COACHELLA PERFORMANCE

Of great note is the June 17th release date of Chromeo’s much anticipated, re-release, Fancy Footwork: Deluxe Edition (Vice).

VICE RECORDS TO RELEASE CHROMEO FANCY FOOTWORK: DELUXE EDITION ON JUNE 17th

Chromeo: once an underground best kept secret, now an Earth-sweeping cultural phenomenon responsible for bringing together a massive union of indie trendsters, dance muggers, gay students, hip hoppers, music blogging nerds and nubile girls. They attract the attention of celebrities like those with the surname Hilton (Paris, Perez), Hall and Oates (who sought out a collaboration) and Kanye West (who regularly name checks them on his blog). The revolutionary MTV program 52/52 took an in depth look at Chromeo and not surprisingly, fell in love. Since the beginning of the year, they’ve sold out shows in LA (El Rey), New York (Bowery Ballroom, twice), Manchester (Academy), London (KoKo’s), and have just completed a triumphant homecoming tour in Canada. All the key American festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Coachella and All Points West have come calling hoping to catch some Chromeo magic. Now, the good news:

ZUNE ARTS RELEASES NEW VIDEO PIECE OF ME, PIECE OF YOU Featuring Music By Chromeo and Created By Acclaimed Artists Three Legged Legs; New Film Is Part of Ongoing Series Produced By Microsoft’s Zune Arts

“Piece of Me, Piece of You”

Zune Arts, the program that aims to bring the best creative minds together to collaborate on inspiring works of art, has released a new video: “Piece of Me, Piece of You.” The new work is a short film created by Three Legged Legs and features the musical styling of Chromeo’s “Fancy Footwork.” “Piece of Me, Piece of You” is available on April 8th at Zune-Arts.net and also available via podcast from the Zune Marketplace. Fans can also see a previously released behind-the-scenes video which shows the puppetry in action on Zune-Arts.net.

This latest piece follows a mob of near life-sized puppet zombies as they infect a city with their mad pop-locking dance grooves. To bring the film to life, Greg, Reza, and Casey of Three Legged Legs collaborated with modern dance choreographer Kristin Zipfel as well as emerging puppet makers Adam Parker Smith and Carolyn Salas to create a flawless musical thriller.

“It’s really impressive to see what participating artists come up with when asked to visually interpret the Zune brand themes of sharing and friendship,” said Jason Reindorp, marketing director for Zune. “The Zune Arts program gives artists a new distribution platform to showcase their work, delivers unique ‘ownable’ entertainment to consumers and also demonstrates something fun about the Zune brand.”

Zune Arts recently announced the availability of Zune Arts content through a new podcast series, which showcases a broad selection of today’s cutting edge cultural artists expressing themselves through film, music, design and illustration. In addition to showing these works, the podcast series will feature artist interviews, exclusive content, behind-the-scenes videos and more.

P-Thugg interview @ The Official Chromeo Make Up Party

P-Thuggwritten by Aaron A*maze Joseph

MVRemix: What Happened tonight?

P-Thugg: Just visa problems, and all that shit….

MVRemix: The name “Chromeo” what is the origin of the name?

P-Thugg: It’s like a mix of Chrome and Romeo, like metallic lover boy, type futuristic…

MVRemix: How long have you and Dave 1 been making music together?

P-Thugg: We’ve been doing this since we were in high school, around the age of 15. We were in a band together, you know the usual high school thing, and we kept on until around the age of 18. Then we started producing hip hop and became hip hop producers for like 10 years. From that, Tiga, who had a techno label wanted to try something new and approached us, and seeing as we were musicians it all worked out.

MVRemix: So how is the Chromeo tour going?

P-Thugg: We were in Montreal, we had a dope show there. All the shows were pretty dope. It’s always good because it’s our hometown and all the shows are sold out. New York was crazy as well, both shows sold out, Brooklyn was the second night and was really good.

MVRemix: How would you explain the music of Chromeo to someone who has never heard it before?

P-Thugg: A little bit of Hall & Oates and Prince… but thugged out. It’s tough, but like Jodeci. We sing well and got good melody.

MVRemix: What are your thoughts on how music is being made today, with Electrofunk, B-More, Mash-ups & House music taking over?

P-Thugg: I like all that shit. Baltimore is dope shit, it’s what I started to listen to when I started to get into hip hop back in 1990; Bel Biv Devoe, Kid n’ Play, EPMD, Rob Bass, Jazzy Jeff. All that new wave stuff, it’s all great stuff, it’s just NOT what we do, but we ARE fans.
