Major Lazer postpones Free The Universe album for April

MAJOR LAZER POSTPONES “FREE THE UNIVERSE” FOR APRIL RELEASE

ALBUM PRE-ORDER AVAILABLE 2/26, INCLUDES INSTANT GRAT TRACK “WATCH OUT FOR THIS (BUMAYE)”, VIDEO COMING IN MARCH

MAJOR LAZER WORLD TOUR 2013 STARTS FEB 28

FREE THE UNIVERSE, originally scheduled to be released February 19th, will now be released April 15th via Secretly Canadian / Mad Decent / Downtown Records in North America. Starting February 26th you can pre-order the album through iTunes in the US & Canada http://smarturl.it/FTUPreOrder and immediately receive the third single “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)” which features famed dancehall artist Busy Signal, along with The Flexican & FS Green. The group issued a statement on the postponement below:

“Our fans are the most important part of what makes Major Lazer what it is. It is with that consideration that “FREE THE UNIVERSE” will not be released this month as previously scheduled. We never want to disappoint our supporters but circumstances out of our control have made us unable to keep the intended date. For anyone disappointed, we are truly apologetic and we promise that this hiccup has only made what we have planned for the album stronger. We tried extremely hard to keep the date but it was ultimately decided that rushing the album would have been unfair to you and everyone who worked so hard on it. There will be information soon about the album pre-order and we are working with everyone to be able to deliver you a few songs prior to the release.”

Major Lazer new album Free The Universe and Major Lazer tour dates

MAJOR LAZER’S NEW LP “FREE THE UNIVERSE” COMING NOVEMBER 6th 2012

US TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED, EXCLUSIVE PRE-ORDER VIA GILT

“…the great appeal of Major Lazer is watching these dancehall concoctions transform, as elements of dub and hip-hop and reggae are also smashed into one freaky, juiced up mutant (kinda like the fictional Major Lazer himself).”
– PITCHFORK

Since its inception in 2009, the one-armed cartoon Jamaican renegade know as Major Lazer (fronted by Grammy-nominated DJ and producer Diplo) has become a cultural zeitgeist- from being sampled by Beyonce for her single “Run The World (Girls)”, selling out shows and playing festivals across the world or leading the way in the current dancehall revival movement and producing the upcoming Snoop Dogg album, Major Lazer’s world takeover since the release of GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE…LAZERS DO is undeniable. The highly anticipated second full length installment of the Major Lazer saga, FREE THE UNIVERSE, is set to be released November 6th 2012 on Mad Decent / Downtown.

With one full length and two EPs under its belt, Major Lazer has already given a sneak peak of what’s to come with this year’s much lauded new single, “Get Free” featuring Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors, which SPIN called “a meeting point between Jamaica, West Africa, and Brooklyn”. FREE THE UNIVERSE forges a new path for Major Lazer, now with Diplo as the sole executive producer for the project, and includes exciting collaborations with Bruno Mars, Tyga, Flux Pavillion, Wynter Gordon, Shaggy, Wyclef, Ezra Koening from Vampire Weekend, Dev and more.

In other news, producers Ariel Rechtshaid and Dre Skull join Major Lazer for the upcoming Snoop Dogg album Snoop Lion “Reincarnated” as Major Lazer. Major Lazer will also be featured on the upcoming title track from No Doubt’s highly anticipated album with famed dancehall artist Busy Signal. The official remix for Hot Chip “Look At Where We Are” is also available.

A limited edition “Get Free” 12″ came out on July 31st, featuring official remixes from drum & bass king Andy C, Brazilian trio Bonde do Role and new comers What So Not. the latter being found on-line as a bootleg. Major Lazer heads out on a string of end of summer European dates, kicking off August 15th in Otranto, Italy, before returning to the US for a limited run of dates on both coasts. Beginning at 10AM EST Wednesday, August 1st, an exclusive VIP pre-sale will be available on GiltCity.com to purchase tickets for US dates.

DIPLO & SWITCH READY MAJOR LAZER TO TAKE OVER THE UNIVERSE!

GRAMMY NOMINATED PRODUCER DIPLO AND PARTNER SWITCH BRING FULL LENGTH MAJOR LAZER ALBUM TO THE MASSES JUNE 16th ON DOWNTOWN RECORDS

The world is likely not ready for the arrival of Diplo & Switch’s musical machination Major Lazer; a renegade commando with a lazer arm and a rocket-powered skateboard who fights the spoils of Vampires, Zombies, Pimps, Mummies and other unsavory forces of evil. The first album in years of original material by these two highly regarded producers, the music is Diplo & Switch’s interpretation and homage to the songs and sounds they have discovered through the years.. The identity of Major Lazer was created by the two producers as a conduit to express their affinity for Jamaican music. The album references dancehall, ska, reggae, dub, calypso, and soca music recontextualized via Diplo and Switch’s club friendly background.

“It’s like digital reggae and dancehall from Mars in the future, pop culture run through a Jamaican filter!” exclaims Diplo.

On June 16th, Downtown Records will release GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE…LAZERS DO, the debut LP from Major Lazer, executive produced by Grammy-nominated masterminds Diplo & Switch. The album features performances from premiere Jamaican vocalists Vybz Cartel, Ward 21, Fambo, and Busy Signal, to name a few and embodies a soundtrack of a hard, technological future world that Major Lazer is fighting to protect. Diplo & Switch, known legends for their dance floor commando tactics, recorded the album at Tuff Gong and other studios in Jamaica.
