Jason Miles & DJ Logic Join Forces to Obliterate Borders on New Shanachie CD Global Noize

Jason Miles & DJ Logic Join Forces to Obliterate Borders on New Shanachie CD Global Noize

All-Star CD Serves Up An Intoxicating Brew of Jazz, Electronica Funk and World Music Featuring Some of Music’s Most Creative Players: Meshell Ndegeocello, Billy Martin (Medeski, Marin & Wood) , Vernon Reid (Living Colour), John Popper (Blues Traveler) Cyro Baptista (Herbie Hancock), Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads, Parliament Funk), Karl Denson (Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Lenny Kravtiz), Christian Scott & Others

The signs are everywhere: MTV launches a channel on the Arabian Television Network. African hip-hop groups mix the postures and style of American rappers with homegrown lyrical messages and M.I.A., a Sri Lankan refugee now living in Brooklyn, scores one of the year’s most critically acclaimed albums–sound bites recorded around the world mixed in an electronica blender with hip hop beats. Multi-tasking cell phones, cheap lap tops, Kindle Ebooks, YouTube, internet radio, and of course the multifaceted internet itself, have engendered a cultural interchange of unprecedented scope and speed. Music, which resonates across every cultural barrier, leads the charge. The result is a grand “global noise,” a spectacular sea of interchanging and mutating beats, sounds and melodies from all directions. It is precisely that reality that Jason Miles and DJ Logic set out to capture with their collaboration Global Noize. Keyboard extraordinaire Jason Miles, who has worked with everyone from Miles Davis and Luther Vandross to Ivan Lins, and Turntable guru DJ Logic, who has collaborated with diverse artists like Phish, Vernon Reid, ?uestlove and Don Byron, join forces on Global Noize to create a thrilling mix of free-wheeling tracks that take listeners on a wide-ranging journey through the minds of some of creative music’s most innovative musicians such as Meshell Ndegeocello, Billy Martin (Medeski, Marin & Wood) , Vernon Reid (Living Color), John Popper (Blues Traveler) Cyro Baptista (Herbie Hancock), Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads, Parliament Funk), Karl Densen (Tiny Universe, Lenny Kravtiz).

“This is a special project as the world is a Global Noize and we need to come together in difficult times and great music has the power to do this,” states Grammy Award-winning and Emmy nominated keyboardist, producer and composer Jason Miles. “The artists and musicians on the project represent a great diversity and this is what the world is really about. The beauty in this diversity is something that we all need to appreciate.”

Global Noize is a project that has long been brewing in Jason Miles’ mind but the idea was solidified when he got a call from friend his DJ Logic last year to join him for a performance at the Blue Note in NY. “On that day I had a horrible root canal and was mourning the loss of a close relative. I thought that this could be just the tonic I needed to pick myself up,” recalls Miles. The night was exactly what Miles had hoped and from this experience he knew that he and Logic had a special connection. The duo later worked together in Morocco at The Casablanca Jazz Festival and had the opportunity to venture off to Marrakech. Miles shares, “We went through life-altering experiences. It was so new to us — mysterious, crazy and another view of the world. We both knew we had to make this project happen. The picture on the CD over of the both of us with the camel in the desert says it all!”

Global Noize is an organic, free-spirited sonic brew of some of the best elements of jazz, funk, electronica and world fusion – it is music without borders.
Miles says, “We started with Cyro Baptista and Billy Martin jamming in the studio and built up the tracks from there. Logic and I pooled our musical resources and had some of the best cutting-edge artists play on the record.” From the album’s opening track, “A Jam 4 Joe” (dedicated to the late piano/keyboard wizard Joe Zawinul) to its concluding statements on “What I know,” Global Noize takes listeners on a mind-bending, global adventure featuring all original compositions.

“A Jam 4 Joe” features Logic and Miles along with guitar wizard and founding member of Living Colour, guitarist Vernon Reid, musical chamelon and bass player Meshell Ndegeocello, percussion maestro Cyro Baptista and the stunning Indian vocal diva Falu. The groove is relentless and is supercharged with magnetic energy. Bernie Worrell joins the mix on “Spice Island’ playing the clavinet and organ. Worrell, who is best known for his contributions to George Clinton’s Parliament Funk and The Talking Heads, lays down a serious funk heavy groove that reverberates throughout the track. The slow-burning “The Souk” highlights Falu and Blues Traveler’s John Popper on the Harmonica in a seductive dance with one another, along with percussionist Braheim. “We were lucky to get John Popper on a day off in NYC,” adds Miles. “He just kills on the ‘Souk!'” “Quera Dancar/I Wanna Dance With You” is a cool breezy Bossa Nova that beckons you to move your hips and dance to the music’s delight along with Brazilian bombshell and chanteause Vanessa Fallabella, celebrated Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo and season jazz bassists James Genus.

Global Noize, which DJ Logic describes as “a hip and eclectic musical journey crossing all boundaries,” further delights with such tracks as “Dar’abesque” (named after the villa Miles and Logic inhabited in Marrakech) featuring trumpet icon Herb Albert. “When I got the track back from Herb Alpert,” confides Jason Miles, “I knew that any musician who had imagination and a great musical voice would love to be a part of this. Herb just really brought the track to life. “Bollyhood” is an ear catching trip-hoppy track showcasing the haunting vocals of Falu and “Planetery Beat” joins multi-instrumentalist Karl Denson and guitarist Dean Brown together for a soul jazz romp with killer break-beats and groovin’ horn riffs. “Having Karl Denson involved with this album made us happy because we knew there would be great playing, brilliant horn arrangements as well as fantastic compositions all at the same time.” Christian Scott is showcased on “Exotic Thoughts,” an ethereal meandering piece featuring the young hot trumpeter along with guitarist Carl Burnett and Tabla player Suphala while “Pool of Honey” is as sweet as its title with its uptempo swinging melody and feel good vibe featuring Burnett and Suphala once again along with Karl Denson on flute. “Christian Scott is one of the most exciting young artists on the scene,” states Miles. “He really stepped up and showed what a young cat at the beginning of his career has got going on.” “Spin Cycle,” brings back a 70s funk flavor with its insatiable drum licks from Gene Lake and “What I Know” features spoken word artists Aline Racine.

Jason Miles concludes “When I hear music I love I want to be involved with it. It would be boring for me to stay in one place musically so I love to explore different music. I know Miles Davis felt that way and I’m just trying to keep the grooves hot, the melodies great and collaborate with the best artists I know. Hopefully Logic and I will be bringing Global Noize to the world and show people our musical vision.”

Global Noize will make its live debut this Spring. Don’t miss the opportunity to catch this unique experience in a City near you!

Karina Pasian covers Destiny’s Child and Rihanna

Karina Pasian covers Destiny’s Child & Rihann

Karian Pasian – Debut album – June 2008

About Karina Pasian

Even before 16-year-old Karina Pasian signed to Def Jam records, the stellar singer was already making a name for herself. From her winning performance on Star Search in 2003 to singing at the White House last June during Black Music Month, this New York City chanteuse has been paying her professional dues since she was a toddler.

“I’ve been singing and playing piano since I was three,” says Karina. “My babysitter had a piano, and she started teaching me how to play. It wasn’t until a year later that I began getting professional lessons.” While some have been quick to compare Karina Pasian to other performers including Aaliyah, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey, one listen to her self-assured debut disc is evidence enough that she is destined for success.

Karina remembers the first time she sang in front of an audience. “I sang Céline Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a talent show. I was kind of nervous, but the audience loved it.”

From that point, there was no denying that music would be her life. A few years later, after using the Prince-penned ballad “How Come U Don’t Call” for an audition, Karina Pasian was cast on a revamped version of Star Search. “That was such a wonderful experience,” says Karina, who won the first round of the competition with a rousing version of the Jackson Five classic “I’ll Be There.”

Working with an array of songwriters, producers and artists that include The Dream, Tricky Stewart, Gordon Chambers, Chris Brown, Carlos McKinnney, Lil Mama and others, Karina proves to be a breath of fresh soul. “I’ve recorded over 70 songs in the last two years,” Karina says. “It was a period of real growth for me as I learned to focus and stay consistent.”

Karina Pasian’s godfather, famed producer and businessman Quincy Jones, has also been a guardian angel for the young singer. In addition to giving her advice, the maestro included her in the “We Are the Future” charity concert in 2006. Considering the talents Jones has worked with, from Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan to Michael Jackson and Tamia, she is in good company. “I know I’m blessed to have someone like Quincy in my corner,” she says.

A fan who embraces all forms of music, from the stylish Black pop of Brandy to old school jazz greats, Karina performed the standard “Misty” when she was at the White House last year. “Emilio Estefan, who has been a friend of my family for years, helped to put the show together, and invited me to be a part of it,” says Karina. “Later, my brother told me that I was the first Dominican to play at the White House, and that made me very proud.”

Studying music and voice at High School for the Professional Performing Arts, the Washington Heights native was more than prepared for any challenges that arose in the studio. “I was blessed to have some pretty amazing teachers who prepared me well,” she says sweetly. Refusing to fall into any cliché, Karina Pasian has recorded an album that is a reflection of her age and independent point of view.

Karina Pasian’s song “Sixteen” is a song of independence and admiration. “Ain’t no daddy’s where I’m from, its just mad mothers…why am I disrespected by someone I should call brother,” she sings in a pristine voice. “I wanted to do a song about what teenager girls go through in urban areas. It’s not cool that boys think they’re being cute when they say nasty stuff to us on the street.” Written and produced by The Dream and Tricky Stewart, best known for their work with Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Madonna’s “Me Against the Music,” the song “Sixteen” reminds one of vintage Brill Building girls like the Crystals or Little Eva with an electro-groove.

Another The Dream and Tricky Stewart track that will leave fans breathless is “Baby Baby,” an uptempo song that is destined to be a dancefloor scorcher. “Though this is a fun song, it’s not just a party song,” says Karina “It’s about guys who simply see young women as sex objects, but I refuse to be that girl.” Indeed, like Aretha Franklin, she simply wants some respect. Sharing the mic with rapper Lil Mama (“Lip Gloss” & “Shawty Get Loose”), the two young stars connected in the studio. “Lil Mama was so cool, but it was her confidence in the booth that was really exciting.”

Produced and written by Carlos McKinney, the sing-songy “Can’t Find the Words” embraces elements of jazz and pop while simultaneously creating a whimsical track that sounds like nothing else of the radio. Additionally, Karina’s favorite song “Winner,” which highlights her elegant piano (her light touch on the keyboard reminds one of Erroll Garner) playing, is laidback and uplifting.

A beautiful young woman with more musical moxy than most sixteen year olds, Karina Pasian has constructed one of the finest debut discs in years. Melancholic and truthful, funky and real, blissful and bold, Karina’s album is the sound of a better tomorrow.

MTV’s “MAKING THE BAND 4” TAKES THE SHOW ON THE ROAD; “P. DIDDY & MTV PRESENT MAKING THE BAND 4 – THE TOUR” HITS THE ROAD ON MAY 24TH IN ORLANDO; MULTI-ARTIST BILL FEATURES #1-SELLING SUPERSTARS, DANITY KANE AND DAY26, PLUS SPECIAL GUESTS DONNIE KLANG AND CHERI DENNIS; OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT AND LIVE PERFORMANCES ON TUESDAY, APRIL 15TH EPISODE OF MTV’S TRL

After record breaking back-to-back #1 album debuts by Danity Kane and Day26, P. Diddy decided it was time to put the hardest working bands in show business on a national tour. In addition, P. Diddy revealed that MTV cameras will document the tour for the new season of the hit reality series “Making the Band” airing late summer. The official tour dates for the “P. Diddy and MTV Presents Making The Band 4 – The Tour” were announced today on TRL. The cross-country, multi-artist bill will feature the hit reality series’ two #1-selling superstar groups, Danity Kane and Day26, as well as fellow MTB4 star, Donnie Klang. Joining the tour as special guest will be Bad Boy recording artist Cheri Dennis.

“P. Diddy and MTV Presents Making The Band 4 – The Tour” will take off on May 24th at Orlando, Florida’s Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, then travel the country through mid-June, hitting such major markets as Miami, New York, Detroit, Chicago, and Las Vegas (see attached itinerary). The tour will culminate on June 9th and 10th with an eagerly awaited two-night-stand at Los Angeles’ historic Wiltern Theatre.

Pre-sale tickets for “P. Diddy and MTV Presents Making The Band 4 – The Tour” will be available on Thursday, April 17th via the official Bad Boy Records website, www.badboyonline.com. All remaining tickets will then go on sale to the general public on Saturday, April 19th.

P. Diddy officially announced the tour to the world on Tuesday, April 15th with an appearance on MTV’s TRL. Both Danity Kane and Day26 – who last month scored back-to-back #1 debuts on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 album chart – performed live on the broadcast, which also featured a visit from Donnie Klang. TRL airs weekdays on MTV at 3:30 pm ET/PT (check local listings).

“WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE,” the RIAA gold-certified new album from Bad Boy recording group Danity Kane, made an explosive arrival atop the SoundScan/Billboard 200 album chart upon its March release. The album’s success marked the group’s second consecutive #1 chart entry – following their 2006 RIAA platinum-certified, self-titled debut – and gives them the distinction of being the first female group in Billboard chart history to have both their debut and sophomore albums enter the main album chart at #1.

“Damaged,” the album’s first hit single, is the week’s “Most Added” track at CHR/Top 40 radio outlets nationwide, while also logging top 30 airplay at Rhythmic. In addition, the track’s companion video – directed by Syndrome (Pretty Ricky, Lupe Fiasco, Trey Songz) – is currently the #1 Most Played clip on MTV, and has been a top 10 favorite on MTV’s TRL Daily Countdown since its debut.

What’s more, Danity Kane will make a special in-concert appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, slated for Wednesday, April 16th (Check local listings).

Danity Kane is: Dawn, Aubrey, D. Woods, Shannon, and Aundrea.

Bad Boy Records topped the SoundScan/Billboard 200 album chart for a second consecutive week as Day26’s self-titled debut album followed Danity Kane’s “WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE” into the #1 spot in its first week in release. With total sales exceeding 190,000, “DAY26” – which features the current hit, “Got Me Going” and the upcoming single, “Since You Been Gone” – officially logged the biggest-selling debut album from a male R&B group in the 17-year history of SoundScan.

“Got Me Going” is continuing Bad Boy’s remarkable streak of hit singles. The Mario Winans-produced track has bulleted its way into the Top 25 at Urban radio outlets nationwide, while also drawing serious airplay at Rhythmic, Top 40, and Urban AC.

“DAY26” is also proving a digital sensation, presently standing at #2 on the iTunes Store’s “Top R&B/Soul Albums” chart, with the iTunes Exclusive “Bonus Track Version” not far behind. What’s more, the “Got Me Going” companion video recently reached #1 on the “Top R&B/Soul Music Videos” tally (where it remains a Top 5 favorite).

The “Got Me Going” clip – again directed by Syndrome – is currently in “Big 10” rotation at MTV, where it has also been a top 10 smash on the TRL Daily Countdown since its debut. The video has also been firmly locked onto the top 10 on BET’s 106 & Park, where Day26 recently performed live twice in one week.

Day26 is: Brian Andrews, Mike McCluney, Qwanell Mosley (a.k.a. “Q”), Robert Curry, and Willie Taylor.

Bad Boy recording artist Cheri Dennis is quickly becoming known as one of today’s most extraordinary new R&B performers. Her acclaimed debut album, “IN AND OUT OF LOVE,” was released exclusively last November on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com) – the first-ever major label R&B album to receive a three-month digital exclusive release via iTunes. The album immediately landed in the top 10 on iTunes’ “Top R&B/Soul Albums” sales chart, fueled in part by the Rodney Jerkins-produced album track, “Remind You,” which drew over a quarter of a million free downloads as the iTunes Store’s “Single of the Week.”

Now available in stores, “IN AND OUT OF LOVE” also features the current hit jam, “Portrait of Love (Feat. Yung Joc and Gorilla Zoe),” as well as Cheri’s breakthrough debut single, “I Love You.”

Katy Perry -One Of The Boys- Album Press Release

SASSY SONGSTRESS KATY PERRY TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM — ONE OF THE BOYS — ON JUNE 17TH VIA CAPITOL RECORDS MUSIC’S NEWEST “IT GIRL” WILL UNLEASH CHEEKY ANTHEM “UR SO GAY” ON LAST CALL WITH CARSON DALY APRIL 8TH PERRY TO APPEAR ON THE VANS WARPED TOUR THIS SUMMER

No less a harbinger of ‘what’s hot’ than Perez Hilton has predicted that L.A.-based singer/songwriter Katy Perry will be “one of the breakout stars of the summer” when Capitol Records releases her debut album, One of the Boys, on June 17th. Perry will also join the traveling rock circus that is the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, for the entire trek this summer.

One of the Boys is a sharp and witty pop-rock gem filled with candid tales of neurotic ex-boyfriends (“Hot N Cold,” “Ur So Gay”, “Mannequin”), crazy road trips with friends (“Waking Up in Vegas”), and figuring out who you are along the way (first single “I Kissed A Girl,” “Fingerprints”). While the album displays Perry’s feisty, girl-power swagger, it also reveals her more vulnerable side on such regretful ballads as “Lost,” “I’m Still Breathing,” and “Thinking of You.”

“I think people can appreciate a songwriter who shows different sides, and this album has many different colors,” Perry says. “I can write my share of angry break-up songs but I wanted to balance it out with fun, summertime songs. But there are also sad songs about loss and making the wrong decisions. It’s been blood, sweat, and tears making this record. I’ve put everything into it and I feel like it’s my baby. When people listen to it, I hope they will understand where I’m coming from as a person.”

To showcase her sharp, observational lyrics and big, charismatic voice, Perry worked with a host of noted producers and collaborators, including Greg Wells (Mika, Natasha Bedingfield), Glen Ballard (No Doubt, Alanis Morrisette), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne), Max Martin (Leona Lewis, Robyn), Sam Hollander & Dave Katz (Gym Class Heroes, Boys Like Girls) and Butch Walker (Pink, The Donnas). “You can’t get better than these guys,” Perry says. “I feel like the luckiest bitch in town right now.”

One of the Boys is the full-length follow-up to Perry’s debut digital EP, Ur So Gay (available on iTunes since last November), which has already earned the 23-year-old Santa Barbara, CA, native a solid fanbase. Perry will perform “Ur So Gay,” a hilarious kiss-off to a guyliner-wearing ex that Blender called “wickedly funny” and Billboard called “zeitgeist-capturing,” on Last Call With Carson Daly on April 8th. The video for the clip, which premiered on MySpace had close to one million plays within one week of it being posted to the site. Perry has also been tapped for Yahoo!’s Who’s Next Critical Eye and MSN’s Ones to Watch for June.

Perry will play a handful of live dates this spring on both coasts before heading out on the Vans Warped Tour. “Warped is going to be grueling and hot, but I’m ready to survive it — even without showers,” Perry says. “Gwen Stefani did the tour back in 2000 with No Doubt and she looked fabulous hopping around on stage in her little polka-dotted dresses. You can find YouTube clips of her up there and all the girls in the audience are going nuts. I’m am so channeling that.”

“Portishead’s Third may be one of the most anticipated records of the last decade.” -MTV

“Daring and Unsettling” – MOJO

“Third is the most stunning, stark and superb Portishead album yet.” ***** – UNCUT

“Third is far and away the best, most punk thing in the Portishead catalog.” -Paste

“A stunning new album.” – The Observer

“The same British trio who helped introduce trip-hop to the musical vocabulary has made an album that, like Radiohead’s best work, makes programmed paranoia a seductive rabbit hole to disappear into.” – ELLE

“In part, all of the signature elements of the Portishead sound remain: Geoff Barrow’s RZA-like penchant for hard beats and tidal waves of strings, seemingly lifted from some dusty soul LP; Adrian Utley’s reverb-drenched guitar scrawls; and Beth Gibbons’ scarily mournful vocals. But like the transition between the first two albums, Third amplifies these qualities with compositions that are starker, more terrifying” – Under the Radar, 9/10

Mark Ronson, Grammy Award winner for Producer of the Year, Record of the Year and Pop Vocal Album (the latter two for his work with Amy Winehouse) will bring his Allido Records label to Interscope Geffen A&M Records. The joint venture between Allido, co-owned by Ronson and Rich Kleiman, and the Interscope Records label will be home to a wide range of artists and projects.

“One of the foundations of Interscope has been partnering with producers who can move the needle of popular culture,” said Jimmy Iovine. “Mark has that rare ear for great songs and artists who will have extraordinary careers. We’re thrilled to be in business with him.” Ronson, as an artist or producer, will not be exclusive to Allido/Interscope.

The first artist signed to Allido/Interscope is Wale (pronounced wah-lay), a young, go-go influenced, hip-hop sensation from Washington, DC, who has been touted in both Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly as an artist to watch in 2008. His debut album is expected by year’s end.

“Jimmy Iovine is a dude,” explains Ronson. “The plain fact that he started out as an engineer on Born To Run, went on to produce records for U2 and Patti Smith, and then formed one of the most influential labels in the history of American music encapsulates every reason why I would want to be in business with Interscope Records. I’ve always tried to balance discovering brilliant new talent and producing great records; and, along with Rich Kleiman, then putting those records out through Allido Records. Interscope is the perfect place for us to do that. What a dude.”

“Although we’ve signed individual artists to majors since our inception, Allido has always developed organically and independently. However, the time has arrived to formally bring the label to a place that has the infrastructure of a major but that is still willing to think outside the box,” explained Kleiman. “Interscope has a reputation for being a true partner in their joint ventures and this is an invaluable characteristic.”

“Mark and Rich have an incredible working partnership that’s resulted in a true melding of artistic and business vision,” commented Luke Wood, the executive at Interscope Geffen A&M who brokered the deal for the company. “We’re looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Allido.”

Ronson was nominated for three Grammys at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, winning for Producer of the Year (for Winehouse’s Back To Black album, its “Rehab” and “You Know I’m No Good” tracks, Lily Allen’s “Littlest Things,” and his own album, Version), Record of the Year (“Rehab”) and Pop Vocal Album(Back To Black). The other nomination was for Album of the Year (for Back To Black). An internationally renowned DJ, Ronson has also recently worked on albums from Christina Aguilera and Robbie Williams.

Allido Records, based in New York City, was launched in 2004 as an independent imprint and has since released a handful of albums via individual artist deals, including releases by Rhymefest, and Ronson himself, and Daniel Meriweather later this year. Allido has worked on numerous music supervision projects and released soundtracks to the Oscar-nominated movie Half Nelson and a compilation series for the Hard Rock Hotel Group.
