Swollen Members Revisit Their Early Days In New Video For Almost Famous

Vancouver based Swollen Members continue to roll out new material from their new album “Beautiful Death Machine”, and have released their video for the track “Almost Famous” online

“Beautiful Death Machine” lands in stores on March 19th via Suburban Noize/Battle Axe Records and is available for pre-order.

“Our concept for ‘Almost Famous’ was really quite simple yet very effective. We shot at my favorite local neighborhood pub with each of us playing a role in the restaurant. We show the early days when we were struggling to solidify our music career while still grinding through a 9-5,” said Prevail. “I’m really proud of the concept and the final product looks like a short film.”

To create their latest opus, “Beautiful Death Machine”, Swollen Members regrouped with a revitalized energy and a vision to record an album that strengthens the group’s musical legacy. Armed with their signature brand of dark, sinister, spellbinding hip-hop, Swollen Members emerged with an album that is aggressive, confident and commands listeners attention with its in-your-face attitude.

Swollen Members will embark on a headlining tour across Canada in March and are set to perform at this year’s Paid Dues Independent Hip-Hop Festival 2013 on March 30, 2013 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA. The Vancouver based trio joins an already stellar line-up that includes headliners Black Hippy, Macklemore, along with Talib Kweli, Tech N9ne, Scarface, Immortal Technique, Hopsin, Joey Badass, Vinnie Paz & Ill Bill, and many others.

Madchild from Swollen Members will be touring this summer in support of his solo album on the Vans Warped Tour along with Goldfinger, Forever the Sickest Kids, Big Chocolate, The Black Dahlia Murder, Mac Lethal, and MC Lars.

Swollen Members “Dagger Mouth” Nominated For 2012 Juno Award

Swollen Members “Dagger Mouth” Nominated For 2012 Juno Award

Swollen Members’ new studio album “Dagger Mouth” has been nominated for a 2012 Juno Award in the category of “Rap Recording of the Year” alongside Drake, Classified, D-Sissive, and Kardinal Offishall. The 2012 Juno Awards, which are the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy award, are set to take place on Sunday, April 1st, 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario at Scotiabank Place and be hosted by fellow Canadian William Shatner. Swollen Members have won four Juno Awards throughout their career and this year’s nod is the fifth time the group has been nominated.

“I’m really proud of this Juno nomination for ‘Dagger Mouth’,” says Prevail. “Swollen Members have gone through some trials and tribulations the last few years so to come together and create an album that was purely about artistry and have it be nominated for such a prestigious award is very heartfelt and appreciated.”

“It’s been an extremely rewarding year coming back to the music, both creatively and spiritually,” commented Madchild. “What a great reward and honor to be nominated for a Juno this year! We look forward to the event this March in Ottawa!”

“Prevail, Madchild, and myself are honored to be nominated this year,” added Rob The Viking. “We worked hard to make ‘Dagger Mouth’ sound exactly how we had envisioned it and it feels amazing to get the recognition for all the blood, sweat and tears we put into it.”

With Madchild now free from his addiction to pain killers and having exorcised all his demons, Swollen Members have returned with a vengeance on their seventh studio album “Dagger Mouth”. From the powerful production of Rob The Viking, to the dark poetic abstract expressionism of emcees Madchild and Prevail, “Dagger Mouth” is a return to the classic Swollen Members sound and harnesses the group’s savage chaotic energy into one focused and commanding effort.

Madchild will release his heavily anticipated debut solo album, “Dope Sick”, later this year on Suburban Noize/Battle Axe Records. Madchild recently dropped his “Little Monster” digital EP online at http://tinyurl.com/6vv6eum and the video for his new single “Sh*t Talker” online

Prevail of Swollen Members recently released his digital “SpaseFase” EP, which features production work by Ol’ City Rocker. The EP is available online at http://tinyurl.com/86cnea3 and the video for the track “Razorblades” featuring Malia May can be seen online

Swollen Members are currently wrapping up a sold-out Canadian tour with hip-hop super crew La Coka Nostra.

Swollen Members – Daggermouth Album Review

I would be a liar if I sat here and mashed on the keyboard and told you how much I hated this album. However, I would also be liar if I sat here and told you how much I loved it. This metal/hip-hop mash up is not something you would find on my iPod; Nor would you find the CD case sliding around in the back seat of my car. A small part of me feels like I have to love this album because they are Vancouver music veterans.

Every second song was about drugs, dying and depression. It was like if I wanted to write a suicide letter I would use half these lyrics. Although, the songs that didn’t have pure hatred about life were surprisingly good. They were deep, real, and a small part of me could relate to them. For example songs like “Bring Me Down” featuring Saigon have depth and give you something to relate to. That’s what all music needs. Regardless of who it is, a song that has depth and realness will always keep me listening. That’s why I cant make up my damn mind with this damn album. I guess I can just be thankful that they saved the best for last.

Swollen Members has always been very original, and when they weren’t rapping about knives, guns and drugs I was intrigued and I was only hoping the next song would carry out the same beat and rhythm. Well, it didn’t. Instead, after one great track would finish “Chemical Imbalance” would come on and then I had to scramble to change the song. If only they were consistent through out the whole album I would highly recommend buying it.

Swollen Members is one of those groups where you love them or hate them; the type of group that has the same loyal fans since day one, and the group that will make music regardless of record sales. Let’s be honest; did you even know they were coming out with a new album? In all honesty, a small part of me has much respect for someone that does it just for the fans and not the fame. That’s hard to find these days. Overall, I don’t think they will stop making music anytime soon. So if you like a good show, try to catch them live. Otherwise, I’m on the fence about this one.
