It’s been quite the year for electro-pop pioneers, The Presets. Julian Hamilton (vox/keys) and Kim Moyes (drums/programming) have dominated charts and airwaves the world over with the definitive dance record of the summer, their sophomore album Apocalypso.
In their native Australia, The Presets are the highest selling local act for 2008. Outselling the likes of Madonna and Mariah, their #1 album Apocalypso has spent over sixteen weeks in the Aussie top ten and sales are rapidly approaching in excess of 100,000. Add this to over 40,000 sales of their single My People and 30,000 of This Boy’s In Love, and subsequent album releases in over 25 countries, it’s unquestionable that The Presets have emerged this year as heavyweight serious contenders, an unstoppable force on the international dance music scene.
This summer has seen The Presets play packed-to-the-rafters and raving arena-sized venues on a nightly basis. Internationally renowned festivals such as the UK’s V Festival, Glastonbury, T in The Park, Norway’s Øya Festival, France’s Pantiero Festival and a triumphant headline slot at Australia’s Splendour in The Grass, have witnessed audiences blown away by the band’s electric stage performance, as addictively compelling as it is intense.
Now, all hail, The Presets are returning to America!
This fall Julian and Kim continue their sonic crusade on the American music loving masses. Hell-bent on converting the most stoic of rock music fans into pop-possessed dancing maniacs, the band will traipse around the country for 30-odd dates of non-stop party with co-headliners and Modular labelmates Cut Copy.
To celebrate their return to North America, The Presets release Talk Like That, the third single from Apocalypso. Flexing the melodic muscle of a hyperactive Pet Shop Boys, and injecting their own high-octane Presets rush, Talk Like That is a tense exercise in drama and lunacy, set atop a bed of haunting church organs and stuttering vocal samples. This dance-pop gem comes with a much-blogged stunning video courtesy of the enfants terribles of music videos, Jonas and Francois (who have smashed it for the likes of JT and Madonna, Kanye West and Justice).
Shot in a disused mansion on the outskirts of Paris, Talk Like That features French model and it-girl Valentine Fillol-Cordier precociously stomping and swaying through the building, systematically smashing guitars and amplifiers in search of synths, as if possessed by the powers that be the voice of Hamilton and the beats of Moyes.
Talk Like That is indeed one of the most infectious tracks you’ll hear all year. Come witness it, and the rest of the gargantuan Apocalypso live experience this fall in a US venue near you.

“The Presets revel in the darker, more cosmic realm of dance music while still having fun and involuntarily getting people in the mood to move. There’s also punk and new wave elements, but just don’t call them “Indietronica.” – Rolling Stone
